World Veterinary Day to be observed on April 26
Animal Husbandry Director Dr. T. Damodara Naidu has said that World Veterinary Day is observed every year on the last Saturday of April across the globe to commemorate the multifaceted services provided by veterinarians and scientists for animal health and welfare. Veterinary Day will highlight their tireless efforts in the field of veterinary science. Veterinarians play a crucial role in protecting livestock.
In a statement on Friday, Dr. Damodara Naidu extended greetings to all veterinarians working in government, private, and voluntary sectors.
By providing timely medical care to animals, veterinarians helped protect animal health and played a vital role in the prevention of zoonotic diseases such as bird flu and rabies that could be transmitted from animals to humans. They also helped raise awareness among livestock owners about seasonal animal diseases, administered preventive vaccines and deworming medications, thereby reducing animal mortality and ensuring food security for people.
In the year 2025, efforts were being made under the theme 'Animal Health is a Team Effort' to promote better animal husbandry, protect human health, and maintain environmental balance, he added.
