Vandals target Warwickshire Pride Festival for third time in a row

Organisers of Warwickshire Pride have thanked the community for coming together and helping after the festival site was vandalised for a third year in a row."A gang" attacked the site in Leamington Spa's Pump Room Gardens overnight, with flags being torn down or stolen "as per usual", organiser Dan Browne said in a video on social appealed to the local community to come to help clean up, which prompted many to step in ahead of the event's start at 11:00 BST."We've managed to turn the vandalism, the negativity and the hate into something positive - pure community power," he said. "They got into some of the tents. The trans tent in particular is pretty trashed," he he praised the "massive community response" posting "a big thank you to everyone who has turned up to help". Mr Browne told BBC News: "It's been a really fantastic day of community power."And the community came together really early to put the site back together."Several hundred people attended a march through the town centre with thousands visiting the festival site enjoying the atmosphere and performances, Mr Browne said. "It's been a really fantastic and positive day," Mr Browne drag queen Kirsty Minchella-Storer is performing at the event as her alter ego Mama Minchella-Storer, from Warwickshire, is a well known name in drag circles in the Midlands. Security was hired for this year's event, who did help minimise the damage after the site had previously been targeted by year gazebos were destroyed, glass was strewn around the site and attempts made to set fire to flags. Dawn Meats co-founder and agri-food entrepreneur Dan Browne dies

Dan Browne, the agri-food entrepreneur and businessman who co-founded Dawn Meats, one of the largest meat companies in Europe, has died at the age of 88. Described as a pioneering figure in Irish agriculture, Browne, originally from Douglas in Cork, founded Dawn Meats along with brothers Peter and John Queally in 1980. He served as the company's managing director for 27 years, developing the business into one of the leading players in the processing sector. The company employs more than 8,000 staff in 12 countries and has an annual revenue of over €3 billion. READ MORE Browne retired from the role in 2007 but continued to be a board member of Dawn and a key adviser to the company's leadership. Browne started his career as a research scientist with An Foras Talúntais (AFT) which later evolved into Teagasc. He is credited with developing the State's national dairy research centre on a then derelict farm at Moorepark, near Fermoy in Co Cork. In the 1970s, he left the world of research and joined the meat industry, becoming manager of the Cork Marts — IMP plant at Midleton, eventually going on to co-found Dawn with John Queally and the late Peter Queally. 'It is with great sadness that Dawn Meats announces the passing of its co-founder Daniel (Dan) Browne today at the age of 88,' Dawn Meats said in a statement. 'The board of Dawn Meats wishes to express its deepest condolences to Mr Browne's wife, Kay, and his family at this difficult time,' it said.
