The Long-Awaited ‘Mass Effect' Show Has a Showrunner Now
Prime Video's upcoming Mass Effect show is progressing slowly, but surely. On Friday, Deadline revealed the live-action series gained Doug Jung as its showrunner. Jung, who most may remember as the co-writer for 2016's Star Trek Beyond, recently ended a showrunner/executive producer stint for Apple TV+'s Chief of War. He'll be working alongside writer Dan Casey, and both will EP for the series alongside franchise producer Mike Gamble. As Deadline notes, this is a 'major step forward' in the show's development, which was first teased all the way back in 2021, then had its existence reaffirmed back in 2024. To date, Prime Video's kept mum on what exactly Casey's pitch was for the Mass Effect show. Among fans, the general thinking is that it'll just adapt the initial trilogy of Commander Shepard gathering allies to fight the Reapers. (This also seemed to be the plan when a movie seemed likely back in 2007 after the first game came out.) But shows like Castlevania and Prime Video's own Fallout have taken a different approach that tells an original story inside the worlds of those series. (Fallout in particular carries itself like a Fallout 5 we're getting to watch but not play.) Others, like Tomb Raider and Dragon Age, continued (or hoped to) the stories of the games they're based on. There's certainly different routes for the Mass Effect series to take, and we'll be interested to learn Jung and Casey's approach in due time.

Motherwell's hopes of finishing seventh have been rocked by Hearts, admits Dan Casey
The Steelmen will require a strong finish this week to achieve their target of a seventh place finish in the Premiership Dan Casey admits Motherwell's hopes of finishing best of the bottom six are slim after Saturday's defeat to Hearts. The Steelmen went down 3-0 in the capital, allowing the Jambos to leapfrog them into seventh spot in the table and move a point clear with just two games of the Premiership remaining. Motherwell, who are safe from the drop, will see their campaign come to an end over the next few days with their final home game against Kilmarnock tomorrow night, followed by a trip to the Highlands on Sunday to face relegation-threatened Ross County. And the Irish defender said: 'We've done our job to an extent but we also have goals to be top of the bottom six. 'This defeat has rocked our chances so we need to get back on it and finish strong in the final two games. Our lack of consistency probably cost us top six this year, so we need to focus on that going forward. 'The support has been great this season and even when we were struggling, they came out in their numbers. 'It's frustrating for them if we aren't putting in worthy performances. It's not fair on them. But we have two games left and we want two good performances and results.' Casey is out of contract in the summer and added: 'I'm just focused on the next two games and we will see what happens.' The 27-year-old was at the centre of a key moment in Saturday's defeat, with a VAR review deeming him to be offside and obstructing the goalkeeper's view when Callum Slattery looked to have pulled Well level. It took five minutes for referee Ryan Lee and the VAR team to come to a decision and Casey said: 'It was very disappointing. 'The first half was a 50-50 game and the goal we had disallowed was a very harsh decision. 'I was running across but I don't think the keeper was going to save it either way. By the book, it's probably disallowed but if you are a football person, you know he's not getting to the shot. 'I believe it should stand but the rules are the rules and that's how it is. I believe VAR is working but for a decision to take that long stops the flow of the game. 'There were seven minutes added on in the first half and that's not great for anyone. VAR gets more right than wrong but it's about getting them made quicker.'

Hearts 3-0 Motherwell: Analysis
As much as manager Michael Wimmer said his players are playing for contracts next season, Motherwell have the vibe of a team 'on the beach.' They secured safety last weekend and realistically are looking to next season when Wimmer will have the summer to build his own squad and instil his playing philosophy. Callum Slattery was the pick of the players in claret and amber, with a few lovely turns demonstrating his quality in midfield. His goal - which was ultimately ruled out because Dan Casey jumped in front of Fulton when offside - also showed his attacking threat. The ball sat rather awkwardly but he managed to find the net by playing it off the grass and into the corner. Having a player like him fit and back to his best for next season, having missed half of this campaign with a knee injury, will help Wimmer hugely.

Well duo make TOTW
Ten-man Motherwell secured their Scottish Premiership status for next season with a fine win over Dundee at Dens Park and as such, two Steelmen have made my team of the the back, Dan Casey was committed as always, strong in the tackle and stout in defence. He was a threat to the opposition goal as Tawanda Maswanhise was an even greater threat. He was direct, fast and a real weapon for Michael Wimmer's side. The Zimbabwe international again underlined his importance to Motherwell with the match-winning goal that keeps them in the top flight.

Head of Louisiana OMV resigns, Gov. Landry announces Friday
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Gov. Jeff Landry announced Friday morning that Louisiana OMV Commissioner Dan Casey has resigned as the state office continues to have outage issues. The resignation comes as the OMV system has been experiencing frequent outages due to its aging mainframe applications. In a March 21 statement, the Office of Technology Services (OTS) and Unisys have been actively investigating outages but haven't found the issue. 'I want to sincerely thank Dan Casey for stepping up to serve as the Commissioner of Office of Motor Vehicles at a time when most people would shy away from the position. Dan faced nearly impossible circumstances, including a system that was designed in the 1970s, with the demands of the 21st century. I am thankful for his leadership and wish him the best,' Landry said Friday. The governor said work to find a permanent fix for system issues continues. An executive order signed by Landry on March 20 declared a state of emergency and suspended late fees for Class E driver's licenses up to 30 days past the expiration date. Residents will still need a valid, unexpired ID to travel outside of Louisiana since the Transportation Security Administration and law enforcement in other states will not recognize the extension. Landry said he will name an interim secretary in the near future.
