Man accused of driving 173 km/h before deadly crash back behind bars

The man accused of dangerous driving causing death in a 2023 Clearview Township crash that killed a woman and her dogs is back behind bars. Dan Richie, 35, is in custody again accused of allegedly breaching his release conditions three months after he was granted bail under house arrest accused of another breach. Richie was scheduled to appear inside a Collingwood, Ont. courtroom Tuesday to confirm his preliminary hearing dates ahead of trial. He was released to a loved one in March with a pledge of $75,000. He is charged with dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm in a crash near Highway 26 on September 23, 2023, according to police. At the time, investigators said Richie was driving 173 kilometres per hour in an 80 kilometre per hour zone during poor weather conditions, before running a stop sign then crashing into another vehicle at 3/4 Sunnidale Sideroad and Concession Road 9. It is believed Richie was driving with five children as passengers.
