British Host ‘Not Welcome' Party For JD Vance With Memes Mocking His Chubby Face
Vice President JD Vance's family summer vacation in the beautiful English countryside was met with an uproar of protesters gathered at a usually quiet Cotswolds village, mocking him with memes and telling him to leave.
'The local people of the Cotswolds turned out because they feel very strongly that JD Vance is not welcome here, and they wanted to exercise their freedom of speech,' a spokesperson for the Stop Trump Coalition told CNBC.
The Cotswolds is a popular celebrity destination, with a number of well-known names having a house in the area, according to the outlet. Vance is set to meet U.K. politicians during his stay and recently had a fishing trip with British Foreign Minister David Lammy.
However, despite its reputation for hosting influential figures, residents living near the small village of Dean, where the Vance family is staying, described a 'weird atmosphere' around the VP's visit, with heightened security disturbing their quiet life, The Independent reported.
Locals have reported roadblocks and police door knocks asking for their personal details in recent days, as security was on high alert in their neighborhood.
'I know several people refused. We asked them if they were protecting us, or Vance. At least they were honest and said it is for him and that it will all be passed on to the American security people,' one local told the Observer.
Despite the heightened security, about a hundred people gathered at the 'Dance Against Vance' 'not welcome' party in Charlbury, where protesters held up signs that read 'JD Vance Thinks The Moon Is 'Just A Rumor'' and 'Bullies Not Welcome Here.'
Some demonstrators filled the area with images of the notorious meme that depicts Vance as bald with a bloated baby face.
'He's simply not welcome here,' Sue Moon, a mother who attended the demonstration, told The Guardian.
