Florence & The Machine tease return with ominous horror-tinged video
Florence + The Machine appear to dropping further hints about their their return after sharing an ominous, horror-tinged video on social media. The last album from Florence Welch and co came in 2022's Dance Fever, but a new carousel of images shared on Instagram last month suggested that a follow-up could be coming soon. One even showed Welch at work in the studio with IDLES guitarist Mark Bowen, while another included a mention of 'witchcraft and folk horror'. And it is that latter point that stands to attention in the new clip, which shows Welch frantically digging up the ground in a windy and deserted field. It's followed by a shot of Welch from below as she stares into the hole, before letting out three bloodcurdling screams. You can watch it in full below. Though a new album is yet to be announced, the band last performed in September 2024 when they performed debut album Lungs backed by a full orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall to mark its fifteenth anniversary . Welch also joined Taylor Swift on stage at the final date of her European Eras tour at Wembley Stadium last summer to team up on their collaborative track 'Florida!!!'. More recently, she joined The Maccabees on stage at Glastonbury in June when they headlined the Park Stage, performing 'Love You Better' from the band's second album Wall of Arms, before hanging around to perform her own 'Dog Days Are Over'.

Florence + The Machine tease comeback with horror-inspired video hinting at new album release
Florence + The Machine have ignited new album speculation with a chilling teaser clip posted on their social media. FLORENCE + THE MACHINE IS OFFICIALLY COMING BACK, IT'S HAPPENING — berry (@sckberry) August 11, 2025 Shared on August 11, the short video shows frontwoman Florence Welch digging frantically in a windswept, empty field. The perspective then shifts to inside the hole as Welch peers down before releasing three bloodcurdling screams. Wearing a flowing red dress with matching shoes, she offered no explanation, as the post appeared without a caption. The eerie scene builds on a series of cryptic social media posts shared by Welch last month. One image showed a whiteboard reading 'You can have it all,' alongside words such as 'clarity,' 'power,' 'purpose,' and 'beauty.' Another slide pictured her in the studio with IDLES guitarist Mark Bowen and featured the word 'October,' possibly hinting at a release date. Welch's notebook also listed potential themes for the next album, including 'witchcraft,' 'folk horror,' 'magic,' and 'insanity' — elements mirrored in the new teaser. Glass Animals reacted to the earlier post with excitement, while frontman Dave Bayley — who co-produced the band's 2022 album Dance Fever alongside Welch, Jack Antonoff, Kid Harpoon, and Doveman — praised her as 'a force of nature' during an interview at Mad Cool 2025. Although declining to confirm any new material, Bayley called working with Welch 'one of the coolest things' he has done. In recent years, the band has marked major milestones, including the 10th anniversary of How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful and the 15th anniversary of debut album Lungs, celebrated with a BBC Proms orchestral performance at the Royal Albert Hall. Welch has also appeared with The Maccabees at Glastonbury 2025, joined Taylor Swift on the Eras tour, and collaborated with Sampha and Everything Is Recorded. While no details are confirmed, her recent creative activity points to a possible imminent return.
