Brooke Combe makes bold request during TRNSMT set

Having seen her perform at venues like SWG3 in the West of Glasgow and the main stage at TRNSMT in 2023, her voice is as incredibly soulful as ever. You can't help but feel transported somehow. (Image: Images taken by Glasgow Times staff) After playing her first tune on the King Tuts stage at TRNSMT this evening, the Edinburgh-born singer said: "Hello TRNSMT, how are we? I've missed you all. "I'm glad it's f****** cooled down. I put on my Instagram that I was going to swear less, so here we are off to a great start." Performing with a Scotland flag tied in a knot at the top of her mic, Brooke was quicky to tease her guitarist, Danny. She said: "I gave Danny one job which was to tie the Scotland flag on my mic. What is that? "Would you lot not have had it tied at the top and draped down? Like, what is that, eh?" To be fair, it was pretty humorous looking. (Image: Images taken by Glasgow Times staff) The singer then surprised the crowd with a cover of the 1972 song, Summer Breeze, by American soft rock duo Seals and Crofts. Announcing that it was the perfect song for today's weather, Brooke and her band absolutely smashed it. Tonight's show follows on from Brooke supporting Lionel Richie on his UK tour earlier this year. And speaking of gigs, the singer spoke about her upcoming show at Saint Luke's this December. She added: "You know where to find me and I know where to find you, all right?" (Image: Images taken by Glasgow Times staff) Before finishing off her set with Dancing at the Edge of the World, the singer made a bold request. She said: "My time has nearly come to an end, I'm gutted, but I think TRNSMT need to make me headline this stage next year. TRNSMT, you heard me." She continued: "There's something about the King Tut's stage. I prefer us all being boxed in over the scary stage over there (main stage)."

Iconic US singer with over 125 million record sales given personalised Celtic top by up-and-coming Scots artist

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CELTIC had to settle for two rather than three trophies this year. But in the man behind Three Times a Lady, the Hoops may well have gained a new fan. 3 Brooke Combe has been supporting music icon Lionel Richie on his UK tour 3 Combe with Richie and the rest of the touring team 3 She gifted him a Celtic top as thanks for letting her gig with him Legendary US singer Lionel Richie kicked off the UK leg of his latest tour in Glasgow earlier this month. And joining him on stage has been up-and-coming Scots artist Brooke Combe. Soul icon Richie, 75, has been on the road for his Say Hello To The Hits tour. Combe, 23, has had a breakout year with her album Dancing at the Edge of the World after going viral on the back of a cover of Yes Sir I Can Boogie, the song that powered the Scotland national team to the Euros. A self-confessed Celtic fanatic, Combe took the opportunity to mark her time touring with Richie by gifting him a personalised Hoops top. The songstress posted a picture of them together on her social media accounts after their final concert, in which she's holding up a Celtic shirt with RICHIE 25 on the back. Richie himself can be seen holding a box covered in Celtic badges with what looks like several more jerseys inside, perhaps intended for his backing singers, crew and entourage. Combe called the experience of gigging with the Dancing on the Ceiling singer one she "won't be forgetting anytime soon." Her post on Instagram read: "What a tour! Class crowds, top laughs, & memories myself & the band won't be forgetting anytime soon. "Huge thanks to @lionelrichie & his team for being the most amazing/inspiring group of people I've had the pleasure of working alongside the last few weeks. Celtic transfer special - Nygren in and Kyogo to return "Keep saying it but not many people get the chance, at 25, to hit the road with a true music legend. What a legacy Lionel has created. Beyond grateful. "Before I cancelled those gigs last year, my world was falling down but I took time for myself, got healthier & I've never felt better. What a boss six months this has been. "Thanks & hi to all the folks that came down early each night too. "All the best. "Brooke X." The Hoops love-in comes hot on the heels of Renee Rapp being spotted at the Capital Summertime Ball wearing a retro Celtic tracksuit top. "Thanks and hi to all the folks that came down early each night, too.' Fans were quick to react, with one enthusiastic supporter commenting, 'CMON the Hoops!' The Edinbrugh singer rose to fame following the release of her breakthrough 2025 album Dancing at the Edge of the World. Lionel Richie brought his celebrated hits to arenas across the UK and Europe, concluding the run with a performance at Glasgow's OVO Hydro on Wednesday, June 4. The tour marked his first arena tour across Europe and the UK in nine years. READ MORE: Rising star to support Lionel Richie at upcoming Glasgow show The Glasgow Times reported in May that Brooke would be joining Lionel on tour. At the time she said: "It's a massive honour to support such a legend. "I grew up listening to Lionel Richie, so to be asked to support him on his UK Tour is surreal to say the least. "To play before him and watch a musical legend every night is going to be very special." She has been named Scottish Breakthrough Artist of the Year and awarded Rolling Stone UK's Play Next Award. She has also been included in multiple One To Watch shortlists by NME, BBC, and DORK.

Brooke Combe, Barrowland, Glasgow ★★★ The story so far: raised by her parents on a nourishing diet of classic soul, the Scottish singer-songwriter Brooke Combe has spent the last four years making a name for herself with a well-received mix-tape and a recently released début album, Dancing at the Edge of the World, produced by fellow retro-head James Skelly from the Coral. This was her biggest headline show to date, a promising showcase for a young artist with self-evident talent and charisma. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad She may be mired in the music of Motown, Stax, Philadelphia International and Burt Bacharach/Hal David, but Combe never settles for mere pastiche. She reminds us that good, new, catchy songs can still be written in that vein – old tricks learned, absorbed and ensnared on fresh hooks. It also helps that she has personality, sincerity, a sense of humour and a commanding voice. Brooke intuitively understands that the best classic soul singers never over-sang or show-boated. It's all about controlled power, and she has that in abundance. Brooke Combe Granted, there are a few too many mid-paced plodders in her nascent oeuvre – Texas-adjacent stuff that drifts in one ear and only tickles the other – but she's at her best when riding that intense, surging Northern Soul beat. This Town and Lanewood Pines are bona fide bangers. And she's not afraid to express her rawest feelings. L.M.T.F.A (aka Leave Me the F*** Alone) was prefaced by a frank and funny monologue in which she didn't hold back on the person who inspired it. 'This is my therapy!' she declared, smiling.
