'His ceiling is so high'
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers claimed the sky is the limit for Dane Murray after the centre-back celebrated his new contract with a maiden goal in first-team football. The 22-year-old headed home Celtic's third goal from an Arne Engels corner as the Rodgers' side beat Falkirk 4-1 at Parkhead to reach the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals. The central defender made his first appearances for Celtic in the Champions League play-offs against Midtjylland in 2021 but subsequently suffered two separate cruciate ligament injuries and did not play another first-team game for three years. He was recalled from a loan spell at Queen's Park midway through last season but injury ended his campaign prematurely after he returned to the Celtic team. However, he was one of six players drafted in by Rodgers on Friday and took his chance with a header from close range. Rodgers said: "It's great for him because he's a great boy. He's got a lot of potential. And I think over the next 12 to 18 months, he's going to really grow. "His ceiling is so high. There are areas of the game he needs to clearly work on. But he's 6ft 4in, he's quick, he can take the ball. "He has a comfort with the ball which aligns with top players. Just, concentration is something that's key for defenders. "But I really, really like him and that's the reason we've tied him down [to a new contract] - and I think he's got a great future."

Celtic ‘considering' swoop for highly-rated defender as Brendan Rodgers tips surprise name for prominent role
CELTIC have only just added to their defence with the signing of Hayato Inamura on Friday. But the Scottish champions are already being linked with another addition to bolster their backline. 2 Brendan Rodgers and Celtic are reportedly targeting another defensive signing Credit: PA 2 Young centre-back Dane Murray could be in line for a bigger role in the coming season Credit: Kenny Ramsay Inamura, who was announced just before the Hoops' 1-0 friendly victory over Queen's Park on Friday, will provide competition in central defence. But he might not be the only new arrival in that position. That's as Stephen McGowan of Celtic Way is reporting that Celts are considering a move for Famalicao defender Justin de Haas. The £3million-rated Dutchman has reportedly caught the eye with impressive displays in Portugal, with Celtic not the only European side to scout him. The 25-year-old is described as being of interest to the Parkhead side as a replacement for the outgoing Maik Nawrocki, Gustaf Lagerbielke and Stephen Welsh, with the latter two players expected to join Nawrocki in leaving this summer. And de Haas isn't the only central defender who could be in line for a prominent role in Brendan Rodgers' plans. That's as the Hoops boss has earmarked academy graduate Dane Murray as a potential option throughout the coming season. Murray made his first-team debut last season, coming off the bench in the Champions League against Aston Villa and playing the full match against Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup. The 22-year-old started Friday's friendly, and clearly impressed Rodgers enough to put himself in the frame for a support role this term. Rodgers said: "We've got Auston [Trusty], we've got [Liam] Scales. Nygren 'will be Hoops' best transfer this summer' plus Kuhn, Yamada latest | Celtic transfer special "I think we'll definitely look to bring in another one. "But I would always look for our own first. "Hopefully, if Dane can stay fit and be available, then he's one that can be in and around it." Celtic in talks with Queen's Park over co-operation deal
The Scottish FA are set to bring in a new system where clubs in the Premiership or Championship can sign an agreement with clubs in League One, League Two or the Highland and Lowland leagues allowing them to place a maximum of three players eligible to play for Scotland's national team on a 'cooperation list.' Those players are able to move freely between the two sides over the course of the loan rather than only being able to be recalled in a transfer window. The parent club will continue to pay the player's salary but can recall him at any time and send out a replacement. The loan system will also remain in place, meaning clubs can use both to get their young players more game time at a competitive level. Several clubs are already in talks, as revealed in The Herald, with Celtic being one those. Discussions are ongoing with Queen's Park about entering into a co-operation system. The clubs have an existing relationship with the Hoops having loaned out Adam Montgomery and Dane Murray in recent times.
