Home Bargains item sparks debate as people either 'love it or hate it'

People were in two minds about the item that's common at most birthday parties - but others backed it as a tasty bargain Home Bargains shoppers have been divided over an item on shop shelves that has been branded "cheap and nasty", while others say it is "moreish" and "surprisingly nice." A handful were still processing the news that one of the nation's favourite bargain shops even sold the item to begin with. ‌ Most birthday celebrations require a cake, but even a supermarket version can end up costing more than £10, depending on what you opt for. But, if you're only feeding a small crowd, this Home Bargains offer might be ideal. ‌ Posting on the official Snack Reviews Facebook group, lead member Daniel Chubb wrote: "Looks like I'm having a birthday today. And tomorrow. And probably Wednesday too. Victoria Sponge Cake £3.99 at Home Bargains." ‌ In the photos, the shopper showed off a brightly decorated birthday cake from Comerfords Family Bakery with cream, chocolate, and sprinkles and layers of raspberry jam for just £3.99. The cake doesn't give a serving size on the packaging, but it appears to be big enough to make about eight slices—ideal for small parties and gatherings. People were divided on Facebook after the post went online. Some were clueless that Home Bargains even sold cakes, others loved and a few were unconvinced. One said: "It's surprisingly nice, my toddler decided her daddy was going to have it for his birthday so I had to buy it!" ‌ Another added: "Am I the only one who didn't know Home Bargains even sold cakes?" A third wrote: "It's really nice. I thought it would be c***, but I loved it and have bought it a few times since." Someone else put: "I've had this cake and it's really moreish!" A fifth person claimed: "That looks foul. It's so easy to make [one] fresh!" A Home Bargains shopper added: "Tasted like shaving foam!" And, one more said: "Cakes are something I don't mess with. The cheap ones are never good!" The discount retailer might be known for its Star Buys, discount home goods, and sweet snacks, but some people are grabbing items from the everyday food section. Some Home Bargains stores have their own bakery section, as well as frozen and fresh food on offer. ‌ In other Home Bargains news, shoppers have been raving about the latest "girly range" of items featuring the trendy pink bow pattern. From bedroom and bathroom to kitchen goods, shoppers had a whole new range to check out, starting from £1.49. Also, in one of the latest Star buy offers, shoppers who frequently visit the discount store may have noticed a £35 set that's 'ideal for travel' is now on offer for just £8. Parents off on holiday—or just for days out in the UK—have been grabbing this Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Portable Travel Baby Bottle & Food Warmer.

Aldi's 9p Easter eggs branded 'bargain of the century' but shoppers convinced there's a catch

Aldi shoppers have hailed the store's latest post-Easter promotion as the "bargain of the century" for chocoholics. The deal, which many customers only spot when they reach the checkout, has seen the supermarket slashing prices on all unsold Easter chocolate after Sunday, April 20. Social media has been abuzz with people sharing how a variety of confectionery items have had their prices dramatically cut, some to as low as 9p. Even premium branded Easter eggs, such as Creme Eggs and other Cadbury favourites, have seen their prices plummet at the tills to just a fraction of their original cost. An Instagram user (@Newfoodsuk) encouraged followers to "run to Aldi" to snap up the discounted chocolates before they're all gone. The offer isn't limited to Easter eggs - the user's video also highlighted price reductions on lollipops and hot chocolate bombs. Shoppers online have reported that even the more luxurious offerings, like Aldi's Double Indulgence eggs which were priced at £11.99, are now being bagged for a mere 9p at the checkout. There was also joy among customers to find that the Free From range was included in the discounts, ensuring those with dietary restrictions don't miss out on the sweet deals, reports the Mirror . One Instagrammer commented on the discovery, remarking: "I got a couple of eggs from my local Aldi after seeing this video. "The labels weren't reduced for these so I wasn't sure if I would get it for 9p but when I went to the checkout sure enough they're 9p! Nobody knows this in my local Aldi as there's quite a few left!" Others chimed in with surprise, one stating: "I thought it was a glitch at first!" Another exclaimed: "I PAID £9 FOR THAT BUBBLE TEA ONE AND NOW IT'S 9P?" Meanwhile, the TikTok user who shared the original tip noted: "We spoke to an Aldi manager today and were told they're reduced due to over stock so they've all been majorly reduced. We regularly see stock for 9p if they're trying to get rid of it for space." The bargain buzz spread to Facebook where Snack Reviews mastermind Daniel Chubb showcased a bargain collection of four Easter goodies. His haul included two Aldi specials — the grand £11.99 Double Indulgence and the quirky £7.99 Dairyfine Bubble Tea egg, complemented with a hefty Creme Egg and a medium-sized Galaxy bar. "For the doubters, these are the four eggs all 9p each from this morning in ALDI with a receipt," he said. The post sparked further amazement and joy, with one person sharing: "My Aldi had the eggs priced at full price but scanned at 9p, my kids were buzzing. I gave them a quid and said, 'Get what you want!'". Another shopper exclaimed: "My partner just came home with what he called 'the bargain of the century'. Two big bags full for under £2!" This deal is up for grabs at Aldi outlets, subject to availability. For those eager to grab some leftover Easter goodies, you can locate your closest Aldi here .
