Winnipeg police arrest suspect in random attack at The Forks

Winnipeg police have arrested a man who was wanted for a random assault at The Forks in early June. On June 6, police said a 30-year-old man was randomly attacked to the point of losing consciousness around 11:15 p.m. at The Forks. Police said he was knocked to the ground by another man who then stole something from him. It's believed he also then threw that item at a woman who was walking her dog nearby. The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition. It was believed the suspect was also involved in a robbery on June 7, when a woman's purse was stolen while she was standing in line at a beer vendor. Police said the suspect was also involved in a break-and-enter at a home in River Heights. Police issued a warrant for Daniel Christopher Dumas on June 26. On July 6, police went to an apartment building in the 600 block of Jefferson Avenue, as it was believed Dumas was there. When officers arrived, police said Dumas jumped from a third-floor window to try and avoid being arrested. After a short pursuit, he was arrested, with police using a Taser to gain control of him. Dumas, 33, has been charged with multiple offences, including robbery and break and enter. He remains in custody and the charges against him haven't been tested in court.

Winnipeg police issue warrant for suspect in assault at The Forks

Winnipeg police have issued a warrant for a man they allege randomly attacked a man at The Forks earlier this month. Daniel Christopher Dumas, 33, is wanted following an assault at The Forks on June 6. According to police, a 33-year-old man was assaulted randomly and beaten until he was unconscious. He was later taken to the hospital in stable condition. Police allege Dumas was also involved in two other incidents on June 7, one of which was a random attack. At 12:05 a.m., police said Dumas assaulted a 37-year-old woman standing in line at a beer vendor in the 600 block of Westminster Avenue, stealing her purse. Then at 1:39 a.m., police said Dumas broke into a garage at a home in River Heights and rummaged through a vehicle inside. They said he tried to break into the home as well, but was not successful. None of the charges have been proven in court. Police say Dumas is five-foot-eight, weighs 150 pounds and has a thin build. Police say he should not be approached, as he is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his location is asked to call the major crimes unit at 204-986-6219.
