Audit Bureau reviews anti-corruption, public funds protection with UN Mission Review Team
The head of Libya's Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, emphasized to the Strategic Review Team of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), headed by Daniela Kroslak, the importance of supporting efforts aimed at addressing economic challenges, promoting transparency, combating corruption, and protecting public funds. The meeting covered a range of general issues related to Libyan affairs, most notably the developments in the political, security, and economic situations, as well as discussing the Mission's role in supporting national dialogue tracks, enhancing stability, and assisting state-building efforts, according to a statement by the Audit Bureau on its Facebook page on Monday. The discussions also addressed UN resolutions related to the freezing of Libyan assets abroad and their impact on safeguarding sovereign investments, while stressing the need for carefully studied technical amendments to allow more flexibility in managing assets and avoiding losses. Shakshak and the UN team underlined the importance of advancing the economic track, particularly in unifying the budget and ensuring fair distribution of resources, considering it a crucial element to ensure the success of the political process and achieving comprehensive stability. He also hailed the role of the United Nations Mission in providing technical support to sovereign institutions, contributing to preserving their independence and enhancing their ability to perform oversight functions in a stable and transparent environment, stressing that the continuity of these institutions represents a cornerstone of the state and a guarantee for governance and accountability.
