Police and fire service team up to tackle anti-social behaviour in Penrith

Cumbria Police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service have worked together to deliver a joint operation focusing on tackling anti-social behaviour in the Penrith area. Officers from the Penrith Neighbourhood Policing Team partnered up with their colleagues in the fire service who set up a presentation on ASB and water and road safety at the entrance to Castle Park on May 2. More than 20 young people took part in the event, earning themselves a free burger and drink donated by McDonald's in the process. Danielle Ousby, police community support officer for the Penrith area, said: "This was a great event, and we hope all that attended enjoyed it and were able to take something away from it. "We're aware of ASB issues in the Penrith area, particularly youth ASB, affecting local businesses and communities and this event was another example of our efforts to prevent the issue through education. "Eden NPT will continue to be proactive when it comes to addressing youth ASB and continue to carry out patrols in areas within our communities where we know crime or anti-social behaviour is taking place as part of Operation Enhance." The event received positive feedback from local businesses who have had issues with youth anti-social behaviour in recent months. The Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team is hoping to hold another two events later in the year to continue the work being done. Andrew Lowes, station manager at Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, said: "This is a great example of how partnership working between ourselves, Cumbria Police and McDonald's can make a real impact in our communities and deliver value for the public. "The young people we spoke to were very engaged and understood the messaging that we were trying to get across, and hopefully the benefits of that will be seen in the wider community."
