Pride celebrations kick off in Bishop Auckland with music and famous faces

Drag Race stars and Eastenders actors were some of the special guests at this year's Bishop Auckland Pride. This year's event took place at Bishop Auckland College, and featured special guest appearances from Eastender's Cheryl Fergison and Ru Paul's Drag Race winner, Danny Beard. Despite the grey clouds for most of the day, there was an array of colour and sunshine as people turned out for a day of celebration. People were draped in flags, families were having picnics, people were getting their faces painted, and there was even karaoke on offer. The main stage at Bishop Auckland Pride saw performances from a Jess Glynne tribute act and the ABBA experience, before Danny Beard took to the stage at 8:30pm There was plenty for children and families to do too, with fairground rides, a bouncy castle and a soft play area. As well as activities and events outside, inside the college there was a student exhibition called 'Inclusion', an interactive video installation called Endless Love Tapes, (unscripted, three-minute reflections on what love means to people) and a guided meditation and yoga zone. Before her appearance at Bishop Auckland Pride, ex-EastEnders actress Cheryl Fergison spoke to The Northern Echo about the continued importance of Pride events. Cheryl said: "Coming to places like Bishop Auckland, it is important the whole community knows that we are all diverse, all inclusive, and it is about community and education at the end of the day. "And if we can do that with amazing events like this, getting families together, having great family days out, but also supporting the LGBTQ+ community. That's what it is all about". Cheryl attended Bishop Auckland Pride with her son, Alex, who is a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Cheryl added: "I've always been an ally for the LGBTQ+ community for as long as I can remember. "My son Alex is also part of the community, so we do Pride events together now. I am absolutely honoured to be known as a hun, apparently, and I love it. I have done Pride events for a few years now and I'm so happy to be able to do it with my son as well. Celebrity Big Brother's Chris Hughes receives a drag makeover from Danny Beard - before playing a hilarious prank on one of their housemates with his new look

Celebrity Big Brother star Chris Hughes has received a dramatic makeover from co-star Danny Beard, leaving one of their former housemates stunned with his new look. The pair formed a firm friendship during their stint on the ITV show last month, and in a new video for the Boys In Beat series for KLOSS Community, Danny decided to recreate their famous drag makeup on Chris' face. In the video, Danny, 32, applied their famous white drag makeup onto Chris, 32, while they reflected on their time in the house. Danny went onto finish runner-up to series winner Jack P Shepherd, while Chris reached the final, landing in sixth place. During the video, Chris offered insight into his own beauty regime, sharing that he gets manicures and pedicures every three weeks, weekly massages and isn't afraid to do his own makeup if he is being filmed. Reflecting on their time in the CBB house, Chris admitted he was a 'barrel of nerves' when he headed in on launch night, joining stars including Chesney Hawkes, Mickey Rourke and Trisha Goddard on the show. But he went onto add that he felt he's learned more about himself watching back his appearance on Love Island in 2017, telling Danny: 'It's the first time I'd ever done a television show, and I know shows like that are tough for many people for the percentage of people you come out of shows like that and that can be hard.' The pair also got into deep discussions as Chris asked him about his childhood and bullying at school. Danny revealed: 'The first thing kids would say to me was 'you sound like a girl!'', this when I was like four or five that's what they would say to me. 'It was so confusing and then when i knew I was gay I was so angry because I thought the people that had called me gay had made me gay. 'And I remember telling my mum that I didn't want to be here when I was a kid, I know that's deep sorry! 'Like that's what people said at school when something was bad they'd say 'that's gay that!' He also revealed that he initially thought one Celebrity Big Brother housemate had 'hated him'. Chris asked him of entering the house: 'What's that like for you adapting around people who have just an extreme amount of masculine energy?' Danny replied: 'Listen when I got in there Daley (Thompson) was giving me the stares and I was like 'he hates me he hates me' and he made a little comment 'it's not all about you' and I just went in myself a bit.' 'So that does affect you?' Chris replied. Danny continued: 'Yeah because I don't ever fully trust straight men and that has been a learning experience being in Big Brother. 'The biggest thing I learnt in there was if you give everyone five minutes you realise you've got more in common with people who you don't. 'I've always been the butt of straight men's jokes. I still am, my boyfriend catches people all the time, groups are lads staring at me. I'm very visibly gay.' As they completed Chris' transformation, Danny asked whether they should Facetime one of their former housemates to show off the look. Suggesting JoJo Siwa, who formed a close friendship with Chris in the house, he replied: 'Middle of the night, that's the only thing I was just thinking in my head, I know she went to bed about two hours ago.' Instead, the pair decided to call Donna Preston, pretending that Chris was in fact Danny, leaving the comedian in hysterics. After sparking romance rumours with Chris during her Celebrity Big Brother stint, JoJo called time on her relationship with Kath Ebbs at the CBB wrap party last month. JoJo talked through exactly what went down between her and Kath after she left the house and also claimed that Chris, 32, was not the reason for the split. When asked about the breakup, which Kath said happened at the CBB wrap party, JoJo explained: 'Out of respect for another human in the situation, they have asked me not to speak about it or them. 'I told them that's going to make me seem avoidant of the situation and I'm not avoidant of the situation. Obviously a lot of people think that Chris has something to do with it. 'Chris does not have absolutely anything to do with it. Chris and I are friends, we have a very great friendship. It's a very special bond unlike any friendship I've ever created but my situations are completely unrelated and that kind of got misconstrued.'

Celebrity Big Brother star Danny Beard makes heartbreaking confession about his childhood - and reveals who he thought 'hated him' in the house

Danny Beard made a heartbreaking confession about growing up and realising his sexuality as he appeared in a new YouTube short on Tuesday. The drag performer, 32, spoke on the Boys In Beat series where he opened up to Celebrity Big Brother co-star Chris Hughes as he did his makeup. And the pair got into deep discussions as Chris asked him about his childhood and bullying at school. I'm very visibly gay.' Danny was just pipped to the post by Coronation Street's Jack P. Shepherd, who won Celebrity Big Brother by a tiny two percent margin. 'I was robbed!' Danny laughed while talking to MailOnline last week, with a twinkle in his eye. 'Mugged! But jokes aside, Jack is an incredible winner. 'I'm so pleased for him. He's a nice guy. He was himself the whole time. And he's been on telly for 25 years, so to be sat next to someone that iconic, I'm blessed.' In the final few days of the show, viewers witnessed a touching moment when Danny broke down discussing being accepted outside of drag. Addressing his vulnerability, Danny continues: 'I think I had the best training in the world doing a show like Drag Race. 'Drag Race teaches you the importance of showcasing your talent, but also showcasing your vulnerability, because that's where connections are made with people. I found it comforting. 'The best part of doing any kind of TV show to me is always making friends with the crew and production, but that's one thing you don't have on Big Brother. 'The Diary Room is just a black room with a camera, and so that really does become your stream of consciousness, your confidante.' And there was certainly a lot to confide in Big Brother about - including controversial housemate Mickey Rourke. The Hollywood actor, 72, was kicked off the show in the first week after hurling homophobic slurs at 21-year-old queer popstar JoJo Siwa, making sexual remarks towards TOWIE's Ella Rae Wise, and squaring up to Love Island's Chris Hughes. So some may be surprised that Danny, who champions himself on being inclusive, has offered out his phone number to the actor. 'Listen, I didn't agree with everything the man said or did,' Danny explained. 'But there's a part of me that really saw into Mickey's soul. And I think he just needed a bit of looking after.' 'I felt comfortable enough around him,' Danny continued. 'Certainly after the first time when I'd had a word with him in the garden [after his slurs towards JoJo]. 'I was like, "this isn't about you. This isn't about your feelings. You've made someone feel a certain way." 'And it kind of got into him. And I think he kind of respected that I didn't pussyfoot around him. I think actually that was the start of a little blossoming friendship. 'Again, I don't agree with everything he said or did, but had I gone in all guns blazing, we'd have gotten nowhere. 'In fact, when he was removed from the house, I felt like we were actually breaking through. 'I get he's a grown man. I get he's a Hollywood star, but I could kind of see through that a bit. And I really felt for him. I think he just was a bit lost.'

Danny Beard says Celebrity Big Brother housemate ‘hated him' and shares unaired moment as he reunites with Chris Hughes

DANNY Beard has revealed that a CBB housemate 'hated him' as they share unaired moment whilst reuniting with Chris Hughes. The Drag Race UK star sat down with their former housemate Chris to do his makeup in a candid interview as the pair discussed all things Big Brother. 5 5 Former Love Islander Chris sat down to get his face 'beat' with makeup by Danny, on the YouTube series Boys in Beat. During the episode Danny opened up about his thoughts on masculinity. Chris first asks Danny: 'What's that like for you adapting around people who have just an extreme amount of masculine energy ?' Revealing an off-screen moment Danny discussed the moment they first met fellow housemate Daley Thompson, 66, a former decathlete and Olympian. He said: 'Listen when I got in there Daley was giving me the stares and I was like 'he hates me he hates me' and he made a little comment 'it's not all about you' and I just went in myself a bit. 'So that does affect you?" Chris replied. Danny continued: " Yeah because I don't ever fully trust straight men and that has been a learning experience being in Big Brother. "The biggest thing I learnt in there was if you give everyone five minutes you realise you've got more in common with people who you don't. 'I've always been the butt of straight men's jokes. I still am, my boyfriend catches people all the time, groups are lads staring at me. I'm very visibly gay,' he added. Danny and Daley clashed after the Olympian made a harsh remark to the Drag Race UK star during a fiery exchange in the house. On the show Danny recalled how they mistakenly thought fellow housemate Mickey Rourke was selecting them for something - only for Daley to fire back, 'Not everything is about you.' This comment left it's mark with Danny later stating that he was now 'wary' of the Olympic hero. But, in the end the rivals hit it off after a emotional first round of nominations in the house. An apprehensive Danny was reassured by Daley that there was "no chance" he would be up for eviction. Danny replied: "Thanks Daley. I really appreciate you, you know. I'm going to be honest when I first came in I thought 'he's going to hate me'. Daley then questions:"Why? I am so not that.' Danny responded: "It was my own thing. Maybe I shouldn't have said that to you there." Daley then replied: "Danny don't you worry. I'll even be coming to one of your shows. I promise.' An emotional Danny added: "You'll make me cry." 5 5
