The Naked Gun Spoofs ‘Genius Who's Gonna Save The World With His Electric Cars'. Whoever That Is
The reviews are in for the cop parody legacyquel The Naked Gun, and they're overwhelmingly positive. The movie is 'extremely funny,' reckons The Guardian. It's a film that 'has a better chance of producing a belly laugh than any in recent memory,' suggests Empire. 'The Naked Gun's joke-per-minute ratio is truly astounding,' reports Collider. The Naked Gun, starting its theater run August 1, has a 91% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, from 170 reviews. So, sure, get to this slapstick flick if you want to laugh your socks off, but there's another reason to go see it: there's tech. Lots of tech. Green tech. The film's villain is a megalomaniac billionaire CEO of an electric car company. An electric car company with driverless cars. An electric car company with driverless cars that crash in mysterious circumstances. But the movie's evil billionaire isn't Elon Musk, it's Richard Kane (Danny Huston), a genius interested in men's sperm count and who's 'gonna save the world with his electric cars.' No, definitely nothing like Elon Musk. And while there's a spacesuit in the movie, and a humanoid robot—no doubt remote controlled by a human operator—there are no satellite dishes, brain implants, or tarnished social media sites. There are, however, plenty of fart jokes. Again, nothing at all like Elon Musk. The Naked Gun series dates back to the 1982 cop parody show Police Squad! by Jim Abrahams and brothers David and Jerry Zucker, collectively known as ZAZ. This was followed by three ZAZ-produced Naked Gun movies from the late 1980s through to the mid-1990s. In film number four—a non-ZAZ production—gravel-voiced Liam Neeson plays Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the original's deadpanning Lt. Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen). He teams up with femme fatale Beth Davenport (Pamela Anderson) in a laugh-a-minute spectacle of slapstick, sight gags, and wordplay. The Oscar-nominated star of Schindler's List is subjected to visual sexual innuendo in Austin Powers-like silhouette gags that are knockout funny. There's also a series of running gags that get funnier and funnier. The movie's apocalyptic plot hinges on a digital doohickey identified onscreen as the P.L.O.T. Device and operated by (it's-not-Musk-remember) Kane, who wants to reset a world he considers to be ruined: let the world's population fight themselves to oblivion, then build back better with a chosen few. Before the gizmo gets activated, Kane gifts the Police Squad with a driverless electric cop car (it's not a Tesla, in reality it's a disguised Hyundai Ioniq 6). Earlier, Drebin Jr. had grumbled 'I remember when the only things that were electric were eels, chairs, and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Chicago.' Evil genius Kane founded car maker Edentech 'to save the world' and has 'created technologies to rival the gods.' Not at all like Musk's claims that Tesla will become the world's leading robotics company, ushering in the 'closest thing to heaven we can get on Earth.' The Naked Gun pokes fun at driverless cars, but not EVs in general. Drebin Jr. hits a cyclist when driving his ICE car, and he does so again when sitting in the driverless cop car. The movie's a hoot. The Naked Gun movie review: Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson shine in goofy, faithful reboot
The Naked Gun review: Liam Neeson is Liam Neeson-lite, Danny Huston is Danny Huston repeat, and Pamela Anderson is Kim Basinger-esque in this did-it-really-take-this-long return to The Naked Gun franchise. The third in the series was 31 years ago, in 1994, and there has been a TV series too. For this 2025 re-up, Neeson replaces the late Leslie Nielsen, who had made the role of Frank Drebin his own. Neeson is the son, Frank Drebin Jr, who like his father is stumbling his way through the police force, and somehow saving the day – every time. The danger this time comes from the kind of billionaire who makes his money in tech, has now embraced green energy, and believes the world needs to be rid of people who are less than equal to 'men of action' like him. This billionaire, Richard Cane, is played in his usual oily indolent way by Huston. Drebin Jr catches on to Cane fairly quickly, but of course must jump the hoops of a Naked Gun to finally get there. While Neeson throws himself sportingly into what is a spoof of the many roles he has done of well-minded men of violence, Anderson is a scene-stealer whenever she appears. Of course, we are meant to be stunned, but her Beth is all woman and not just a Baywatch bod. Fans of The Naked Gun will go back happy, and those missing the kind of crude, unsanitized humour that it revels in, would be gratified to see Neeson lending his weight to it. The Naked Gun remake is hilarious, old school fun and Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson have off the charts chemistry
THE NAKED GUN (15) 85mins ★★★★★ YOU have to be brave to bring back The Naked Gun – because the 1988 original starring the late Leslie Nielsen is such a beloved comedy classic. You have to be even braver to begin the remake with a tongue-in-cheek sequence where your star, Liam Neeson, tells the audience that 'less and less comedies are being made every year'. 4 4 And then to deliver the pay-off line that 'saving comedy is no laughing matter'. That phrase would be an open goal for critics like me if there had been no laughs in the new Naked Gun. Fortunately, this is one of the funniest films I have seen in years. Liam plays Frank Drebin Jr, the son of Nielsen's accident-prone detective Frank Drebin, who, like his dad, is a Los Angeles cop. An investigation into the mysterious death of an employee at an electric car firm brings Junior into contact with Pamela Anderson 's sultry Beth Davenport. Together they uncover a dastardly plot involving tech firm boss Richard Cane, brilliantly played by Danny Huston. As the action hots up, so does the romance, with Pamela and Liam 's on-screen chemistry providing probably the most surprising casting success of 2025. An early visual gag where a bank robber steals something with the words 'P.L.O.T. Device' written on it tells us how unimportant the storyline is. Everything in this film is set up to deliver a laugh. Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson make out in steamy on-air moment as Today host Craig Melvin asks 'are you an item-' There are lots of edgy jokes including one at the expense of the disgraced OJ Simpson, who was in the original film, and another about a drink from the Bill Cosby 'estate'. And there are many corny ones, such as Drebin mentioning 'UCLA' and Beth replying: 'I see it every day. I live here.' There are also lots and lots of pratfalls paying homage to the first film, where Drebin would be oblivious to the chaos left in his wake. 'CHEESY HUMOUR' The thicker and faster they come, the harder it is to resist laughing out loud. Before the film started, I was sceptical that such old-school, cheesy humour could still work. But by the end I was convinced that it is the perfect alternative to all the modern meta comedies trying too hard to be clever. Go save comedy. Go watch The Naked Gun. 4 4

Kevin Costner's ‘Horizon: An American Saga' Star Gives Filming Update
Kevin Costner in "Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1." Danny Huston, who plays a major role in Kevin Costner's Horizon: An American Saga has given a promising update about the beleaguered Western film series. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 was released on June 28, 2024, and struggled for five weeks at the box office. When the film ended its theatrical run in early August, it only earned $29 million in North American theaters and $9.7 million internationally for a worldwide domestic gross of $38.7 million against a $100 million production budget before prints and advertising Variety reported. Costner spent $38 million of his own money to finance Horizon, per Variety, alongside two unnamed private investors. Horizon Chapter 1 not only prematurely completed its theatrical run on Aug. 8, 2024, but the planned Aug. 16, 2024, release of Horizon Chapter 2 was postponed by Costner's production company and distributor New Line Cinema, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. With an initial release date set a mere six weeks after Horizon Chapter 1 was released in theaters in late June of 2024, Costner still proceeded to complete Horizon Chapter 2 and held the film's worldwide premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on Sept. 7, 2024. After that, Costner staged Horizon Chapter 2's U.S. premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Feb. 7. While the release date of Horizon Chapter 2 remains in limbo, Huston — who plays Col. Albert Houghton in Costner's Western saga — has a positive update for fans who want to see the actor-director-producer see the film series through its completion. During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Danny Huston — the son of the late legendary director John Huston and brother of fellow actor Anjelica Huston — said that Costner has largely completed filming Horizon Chapter 3. "I think he's got a lot of Chapter 3 in the can, actually. But there's no stopping him,' Danny Huston told Screen Rant of Costner's progress on the third Horizon: An American Saga movie. 'He's just unbelievable, and this dream of his is coming to life in a spectacular way. It's just extraordinary what he does.' Kevin Costner Has Made No Secret That He's Looking For More 'Horizon' Investors Despite the setbacks surrounding Horizon: An American Saga Chapters 1 and 2, Kevin Costner has pressed on with completing his film series, saying during a Deadline Contenders panel for Horizon Chapter 1 on Nov. 16, 2024, that he was searching for more investors. 'I'm hoping, I'm dreaming, I'm meeting all the billionaires that we all hear about — they're all hiding in the shadows,' Costner said during the Deadline Contenders event, adding that he was working on Horizon Chapter 3 with an eye on making Chapter 4. 'I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I'm going to make it and then I'm going to make the fourth one,' Costner said at the Deadline Contenders panel. 'And if you want to say 'the end' at that point, then that's the end.' Apart from the filming setbacks, Horizon: An American Saga has also been weathering some legal issues surrounding the production. The Hollywood Reporter reported in early May that Horizon Series (which is Costner's loan-out firm), New Line Cinema and City National Bank were involved in a legal battle. Then in late May, a stunt double filed a lawsuit against the production, 'alleging sexual harassment, hostile work environment and intentional infliction of emotional distress,' NBC News reported. According to NBC News, the stunt double alleges in the complaint that a ''violent, unscripted, unscheduled' rape scene unfolded during filming in Utah on May 2, 2023." Kevin Costner's Horizon: Chapter 2's release date is yet to be announced.

Pamela Anderson stuns Naked Gun fans with VERY raunchy scene (involving a brush!) with Liam Neeson
was totally game to perform a very suggestive scene, on her knees, alongside Liam Neeson in the first trailer for The Naked Gun, which dropped Monday. In it, a henchman hired by Danny Huston's villain gazes at the pair, who are seemingly performing a sex act, through infrared night-vision goggles. But it was all an optical illusion as the 57-year-old Baywatch alum's character Beth was on her knees cleaning a 'disgusting' oven as the 73-year-old Irishman's Lieutenant Frank Drebin Jr. stood nearby. Pamela portrays a nightclub singer, who comes to Police Squad for help following the murder of her brother, in Akiva Schaffer's slapstick comedy continuation. 'Please, take a chair,' Frank offered. At that, Beth literally grabbed a chair and dragged it out of the office. 'Our chemistry was clear from the start. We have the utmost respect for one another,' Anderson told EW last month. 'I invited him and his assistant over for romantic dinners with me and my assistant so our relationship stayed "professionally romantic" during filming.' The Canadian-American beauty and Liam bonded over their shared 'love of literature and a good laugh' and she regularly left cookies, muffins, and homebaked sourdough bread in his dressing room. 'I am in awe of him, his experience, and work ethic. I soaked him in like a sponge,' Pamela gushed. 'I'm hoping people love it. We had so much fun making it. I think it's timely for a beloved comedy like this. I'm a fan of the originals. As Liam says, "We could all use a good giggle." I pray we do more.' And the feeling was definitely mutual for Neeson, who gushed to People last October: 'I'm madly in love with her. No huge ego. She just comes in to do the work. She's funny and so easy to work with. She's going to be terrific in the film.' The Naked Gun - hitting US/UK theaters August 1 - also features Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Busta Rhymes, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, and Eddie Yu. Jerry Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and David Zucker wrote and directed the original trilogy spanning 1988-1994, which amassed a total $476.4M at the global box office, following the short-lived ABC series Police Squad in 1982. The Oscar-nominated actor is technically five years older than original Naked Gun star Leslie Nielsen was when he shot the third film. But it was all an optical illusion as the 57-year-old Baywatch alum's character Beth was on her knees cleaning a 'disgusting' oven as the 73-year-old Irishman's Lieutenant Frank Drebin Jr. stood nearby Anderson told EW last month: 'Our chemistry was clear from the start. We have the utmost respect for one another. I invited him and his assistant over for romantic dinners with me and my assistant so our relationship stayed "professionally romantic" during filming' The Canadian-American beauty and Liam bonded over their shared 'love of literature and a good laugh' and she regularly left cookies, muffins, and homebaked sourdough bread in his dressing room Anderson previously worked with the late white-haired funnyman - who died, age 84, in 2010 - in Scary Movie 3 (2003) and Superhero Movie (2008), but they did not share any scenes together. This September, the Sonsie Skin co-founder will fly to England to shoot a mystery role in Sally Potter's upcoming funeral drama Alma alongside Dakota Fanning and Lindsay Duncan. In April, Pamela was in Australia filming her role as two-time divorcée Molly in Kornél Mundruczó's upcoming drama Place to Be alongside Ellen Burstyn and Taika Waititi. Last September, Anderson was hard at work on the Spanish set of Karim Aïnouz's dark satire Rosebush Pruning for Mubi alongside Elle Fanning, Callum Turner, Riley Keough, Jamie Bell, and Lukas Gage. The 15-time Playboy cover girl experienced a full-blown career resurgence last year after starring in Gia Coppola's drama The Last Showgirl, which earned her Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations.
