In a world that demands constant motion, finding stillness can feel impossible. Many women juggle the relentless pace of life, caring for others, managing work and home, and navigating emotional and physical exhaustion - leaving little time to simply breathe.
However, on 30 August 2025, the Women's Wellness Experience offers a gentle pause through chair yoga. This is not yoga as performance; it is yoga as presence. 'Sitting is the most accessible posture we have,' explains instructor Daphne Maree. ' It doesn't require flexibility or strength, just a willingness to arrive. When you sit with awareness, you start to hear your body again. You remember that your breath is always here, anchoring you in the now.'
Chair yoga provides a soft entry point into movement and mindfulness, especially for women who may feel disconnected from their bodies due to ageing, injury, trauma, or self-doubt. In this class, every breath becomes a moment of care and every gentle movement transforms into an act of reconnection. 'Presence is healing,' Mareeshares.
'We often live in our heads, that feeling of planning, rushing, comparing. But the body lives in the present moment. When we breathe consciously, we return to that moment. That's where resilience thrives.' Maree's teachings are deeply rooted in her five-month immersion at the Isha Foundation in India, where she learned to experience yoga not as an external performance but as an inner journey.
'With my eyes closed, distractions faded. I stopped striving and started listening,' she reflects. 'That's what I now offer to others.' Participants in her session will be guided through mindful breathwork, gentle seated movements, and embodied stillness, inviting a felt sense of safety and ease. The benefits are profound: reduced stress, increased clarity, emotiona lregulation and a renewed relationship with one's body. 'You don't need to be 'fit' to heal,' she emphasises.
'You need to feel safely, gently and with compassion.'
