Two killed in early morning accident at Jalan Serikin-Bau

KUCHING (May 18): Two people were killed in a collision between a hatchback and a pickup truck at Jalan Serikin-Bau near Kampung Bogag in Bau early this morning. Bau district police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer in a statement confirmed that the deceased were the driver and front passenger of the hatchback. 'Due to the incident, the hatchback driver died while he was on the way to Bau Hospital, while the front- seat passenger died while receiving treatment at the hospital,' he said, adding that the pickup truck driver was uninjured. Daram said police were notified about the incident at 12.05am. 'The incident is believed to have occurred when the hatchback driver, who was travelling straight from Serikin to Bau, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a pickup truck that was heading from Bau to Kampung Bogag,' he added. He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and urged anyone with information about the incident to approach or contact the nearest police station to assist in the investigation. Police arrest 31-year-old man during drug raid in Bau
Drugs seized in the operation. – Police photo BAU (April 30): A 31-year-old man was arrested during a raid on a house in Kampung Serikin here at around 9.45am yesterday. Bau district police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer said the suspect was arrested during 'Ops Tapis' conducted by personnel from Bau District Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Division. 'Upon inspecting a bedroom on the upper floor of the house, police found a zipped bag containing a transparent plastic packet filled with white crystal-like substances believed to be dangerous drugs,' he said in a statement. He added that a further inspection outside the bedroom led to the discovery of a cigarette box on a window ledge, which contained another transparent plastic packet of similar crystal-like substances, along with 14 pills suspected to be Erimin 5. 'Initial urine screening of the suspect also returned positive for drugs,' he said. The suspect is currently remanded for further investigation under Section 39A(1) and 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
