Sarawak longhouse chief conferred Dato' title by Sultan of Pahang
Sultan Abdullah and Her Royal Highness Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah pose for a photo with Raymond and Winnie during the ceremony. BINTULU (July 29): Tuai Rumah Raymond Plen has made history as the first longhouse chief in Sarawak to be conferred the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP), which carries the honorary title Dato'. The investiture ceremony was held last Saturday at Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan, in conjunction with the 66th birthday celebration of His Royal Highness Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. Raymond, 58, received the award in recognition his contributions and leadership ― notably during the royal entourage's visit to his longhouse in Sungai Gelam, Sebauh, in September 2023 as part of the Kembara Kenali Borneo tour. The national royal tour, which took place from Sept 3 to 13, 2023, was led by then-16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Sultan Abdullah. Expressing deep gratitude, Raymond dedicated the honour to the longhouse community under his care, thanking them for their unity and teamwork in preparing for the historic visit. 'This is the greatest recognition I have ever received, and a historic moment that I and the entire longhouse community will cherish forever. It was a true display of unity and cooperation,' he said. Raymond is the youngest of three siblings. He is married to Winnie Henry and they have two children. His longhouse in Ulu Sebauh, located about 44km from Bintulu, has a significant history ― it was previously visited by two Prime Ministers: the late Tun Hussein Onn in 1979, and the sixth Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, in 2015.
