Stellantis to build $388M parts distribution hub in Metro Detroit

Stellantis NV said Wednesday it will build a $388 million parts distribution hub in Van Buren Township, Michigan, that will consolidate several other Midwest facilities. The new Mopar facility, called the Metro Detroit Megahub, is expected to open in 2027 and will staff up with about 488 United Auto Workers-represented employees. The Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram maker said the project is part of a broader consolidation strategy for its parts distribution centers. It recently sold two of its Michigan parts facilities, in Center Line and Marysville, Michigan, as well as one in Milwaukee. Those facilities are continuing to operate under sale-leaseback agreements until the new Detroit hub opens. Staff for the facility will come from the company's Mopar sites in Center Line, Warren and Warren Sherwood, as well as the Milwaukee location. Meanwhile, workers from the closing Marysville center will shift over to staff the Warren and Warren Sherwood parts centers. The Warren Sherwood location will be upgraded and is set to remain remain open long-term, Stellantis spokesperson Frank Matyok said; a company announcement said it will serve as an "e-coat upfitting facility." The 2023 labor pact between Stellantis and the UAW laid out plans for several consolidated parts hubs, including this Detroit-area one. The automaker said it already has invested about $120 million to boost its parts and services operations since the the contract was finalized, including a new distribution site in East Fishkill, New York, and upgrades to existing Mopar sites. "Our customers count on us to deliver the right part, at the right time, every time," Darren Bradshaw, senior vice president and head of Mopar North America, said in a statement. "With the Metro Detroit Megahub, we're building a faster, smarter and more reliable parts distribution network that puts their needs first." The Detroit hub, like the New York state Mopar facility that has been open for several months, will be equipped with automated storage and retrieval systems to help pull parts for customers faster. Called AutoStore, it uses a series of small robots that move above a grid to storage bins to grab parts and deliver them to workers on the floor, where they are packaged and processed for shipping. UAW spokespeople did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Copyright (C) 2025, Tribune Content Agency, LLC. Portions copyrighted by the respective providers.

Stellantis invests $388 million in Metro Detroit Megahub to enhance service

Stellantis has confirmed it will invest $388 million for a new Metro Detroit Megahub location in Van Buren Township, Mich. The company said this is to further advance efficiency and sustainability of its Mopar service parts distribution network. The new facility is expected to open in 2027. 'Our customers count on us to deliver the right part, at the right time, every time,' said Darren Bradshaw, senior vice president and head of Mopar North America. 'With the Metro Detroit Megahub, we're building a faster, smarter, and more reliable parts distribution network that puts their needs first. This investment reflects our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence, while also creating a modern, high-tech workplace for employees. A feature of the Megahub will be AutoStore automated storage and retrieval system. It uses robots that navigate tracks above storage bins, grabbing parts and delivering them as they are needed. AutoStore will help speed up the process in the facility, while maximizing storage and giving more accurate delivery times for customers and dealers. Stellantis recently sold its Michigan parts distribution centre in Center Line and Marysville, and one in Milwaukee, Wis. Operations will continue under a sale-leaseback agreement, giving service until the Metro Detroit Megahub and Warren Sherwood e-coat upfitting facility are finished. Staff from the Center Line, Warren, Warren Sherwood, and Milwaukee parts distribution centres will be part of the Megahub's workforce.

Stellantis opens automated parts distribution center in New York's Hudson Valley

This story was originally published on Automotive Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Automotive Dive newsletter. Stellantis has opened a new Mopar parts distribution facility in the Hudson Valley's East Fishkill, New York, a move the company said will enhance its services across the Northeast, according to an April 24 press release. The new facility, which covers more than 500,000 square feet, has more than 46,000 unique parts in stock. Stellantis invested $64 million to open the center, which has capacity to fulfill more than 2 million shipments each year, per the release. Darren Bradshaw, Mopar SVP for North America, said the center boosts the company's supply chain, 'accelerating delivery times and reinforcing our commitment to dealer and customer satisfaction,' per his statement in the release. Mopar is Stellantis' parts and accessories arm, supplying replacement and custom parts to Stellantis dealerships as well as aftermarket customers. The facility is one of 21 parts distribution centers Stellantis operates across the country. However, it is the first in the U.S. to use 'AutoStore' technology, which automates parts storage and retrieval. The system is composed of 40 robots that retrieve parts from more than 70,000 bins and deliver them to be processed for shipment by staff. AutoStore, a Norway-based company, claims that its system 'quadrupl[es] capacity' for warehouses, according to the company website. The new East Fishkill facility is the result of a merger between the former Mopar parts centers in Tappan, New York; and Boston, due in part to the AutoStore system enabling a smaller warehouse footprint. 'This state-of-the-art automation significantly enhances parts order completion speed, accuracy and dependability while minimizing the warehouse footprint needed for inventory storage,' the press release said of AutoStore. Roughly 100 workers will staff the East Fishkill parts distribution center. This new powertrain is 150 lbs. lighter than the previous performance model and features a more balanced weight distribution for enhanced agility and faster reflexes. Performance numbers include: 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds; 0-100 mph in 11.7 seconds Quarter mile in 13.1 seconds at 105 mph Top speed of 118 mph An independent front suspension system with active performance damping uses high-strength aluminum to maintain overall strength and durability. The longer, substantially sized front upper and lower control arms are designed with a focus on additional wheel travel and axle track width. This suspension system features retuned spring rates, jounce bumper and damping control to provide enhanced performance and endurance. Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks use precision-machined, single-piece construction comprised of rigid aluminum to reduce and dissipate heat and continuously adjust damping forces for optimal body control and terrain isolation. The Mopar '25 Ram 1500 RHO features a standard rear suspension system that is innovative, durable and unique. Adaptive damping and a five-link coil system create comfortable ride characteristics no matter the road surface. The frame's hard points differ when compared to a standard-issue Ram 1500, allowing for rear axle travel of up to 14 inches. The Ram 1500 RHO offers more than 40% additional rear wheel travel when compared to the rest of the Ram 1500 lineup. Ground clearance of 11.8 inches is due in part to a two-inch ride height increase when compared with the rest of the Ram 1500 lineup, along with 35-inch tires. This combination enables the RHO to clear surface obstacles easily and at high speeds.
