Montgomery County police honors fallen officers with memorial service

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) – Dozens gathered at the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) headquarters Wednesday morning for the Fallen Heroes Memorial Service. Attendees remembered 22 officers who died while serving Montgomery County. 'This is a challenging time of year for many of us,' MCPD Chief of Patrol Darren Francke said. 'We are reminded of the undeniable reality that individuals sacrificed their lives for this community, prioritizing their duty above all else.' DC man pleads guilty in 20+ year Maryland murder cold case Wednesday's ceremony honored fallen members of the MCPD, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the Montgomery County Division of the Maryland-National Capital Park Police. 'Let today be a reminder of what our fallen officers stood for,' Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich said. 'Integrity, service and the belief in protecting others is a worthy and noble pursuit.' Each officer's name was read aloud, a candle was lit in their memory and yellow roses were handed out. 'I offer a very special thank you to the families and loved ones their friends, of those who we remember here today, tomorrow and throughout next week,' MCPD Chief Marc Yamada said.
