Is Brett Sutter a rising star in the coaching ranks? The Calgary Flames believe so
Article content A hat-trick of Brett's uncles — Brent, Brian and Duane — have also been big-league bosses, while Ron was previously Calgary's director of player development. Article content Forced to hang up his gear due to injuries, Darryl was still in his late 20s when he switched to a suit and tie. His coaching climb included two campaigns of calling the shots in the minors. Article content Brett had just turned three when Darryl led the Indianapolis Ice to the IHL's Turner Cup in 1990. Article content He grew up around the rink as his dad was guiding Ed Belfour, Chris Chelios and Jeremy Roenick in Chicago, then Patrick Marleau, Owen Nolan and Teemu Selanne in San Jose. Article content Flames fans don't need any sort of refresher on what happened in 2004, when 'The Jolly Rancher' spurred Jarome Iginla, Miikka Kiprusoff, Conroy and the rest of a hard-hatted squad on an improbable run to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final. If only replay technology was a little more advanced back then … Article content Article content Article content 'Even though Brett only has the one year of coaching experience, I just think the whole career part of it and the blue-collar work ethic that he has, quite honest, I think it leads up to a long career for him,' Darryl told Postmedia. 'He was raised in a locker room, so he understands the team part of it. I remember taking him into the locker room in Chicago when he was a little boy. You learn a lot being in the locker room, and he has basically done that his whole life. He's lucky in that sense. Article content 'Brett, his leadership skills are off the charts. He was captain of, what, three or four teams? And his hockey IQ is really high. He knows the game. I think he understands what it takes and the roles, that sort of thing. Article content 'And he's obviously familiar with the whole organization, from ownership right down to the trainers. So I think it's perfect for him and it's great for the Flames to develop a young coach like that.' Article content Article content The pipeline has been a positive story for the Flames over the past few seasons, with Matt Coronato, Dustin Wolf and Connor Zary among the graduates from farmhand to fixture. Article content As Conroy seeks to build a contender, that trend must continue. Brett Sutter now plays a vital role. Article content The Wranglers' roster for this upcoming season should be stocked with youngsters. It's possible that more than half the guys in their lineup on any given night will be in their early 20s — among them, forwards Andrew Basha, Matvei Gridin, Sam Honzek, Rory Kerins, William Stromgren and Aydar Suniev, defencemen Hunter Brzustewicz, Artem Grushnikov, Yan Kuznetsov and Etienne Morin and goaltender Arsenii Sergeev. (The oldest dude on this list is 23.)

Article content Article content Article content 'Brett understands that the job of the American League head coach is to, first and foremost, develop the young players for the NHL,' Conroy said. 'It's going to be, 'Hey, if you want to get to the NHL, you have to do X, Y and Z. You can't cheat. You don't want to be here forever. You want to get to the NHL. But if you don't put all this work in, it's not going to happen.' Because every year, there are more and more young guys coming. Everybody is fighting for the same jobs. Brett understands that better than anyone, and I think that's going to be a huge asset for us.' Article content The Wranglers' new skipper will tell you that sort of guidance has been a part of his everyday role for longer than his HockeyDB page might indicate, back before he was in charge of determining the lines or planning the drills for practice.

Halle Bailey files for temporary restraining order against DDG as she accuses him of abuse
Halle Bailey has filed for a temporary restraining order against DDG. The 25-year-old singer previously dated the rapper - whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. - and has 19-month-old son Halo with him but just over six months after they announced their split, PEOPLE has learned via legal documents that she is accusing him of various kinds of abuse. In the legal documents that were obtained by the outlet, she said: "I realize that there is no placating Darryl. I cannot allow this abuse any longer. "Whenever he wishes to cause upset, he starts badmouthing me to his several millions of fans. "He claims I am withholding our son and that I am with other men. As a result, I then receive threats and hate on social media. He seems to try to set up drama for his fans. He goes 'live' ranting about me and alleges that I am keeping Halo from him. This is false. I have requested a set schedule, which he refuses." The 'Little Mermaid' star included photographic evidence with her request, which included pictures of her bearing a chipped front tooth and a large bruise on her bicep. Bailey also included a text message which she alleged she sent to her former partner. It read: "Darryl, are u not tired of harassing me? you make up a new lie on me everyday.. i'm in st lucia having fun with shermay and chloe. not with any man out here. i wouldn't do that, i have halo. i told ur mom i was gonna be with my sister last week.. please let me enjoy my mother's day in peace. i hope you are okay and feel better soon." The actress has requested full custody of her son Halo and intends to take him to Italy for two months while she works on a film project. She added: "I have family and a nanny who will be traveling with me to care for Halo while I am working," the court document detailed. "I also ask the Court to order Darryl to cease from posting and/or streaming on any and all platforms about about Halo and/or me, including but not limited to Youtube, Twitch, Tiktok, Instagram, and Twitter/X. "He is a YouTube and Twitch Blogger and creates a fan frenzy by making false claims about me. This has caused me to feel afraid and victimized. His fans then threaten me. I am often scared for my life and Halo's safety. #freehalo has become a slogan online."
