Darsi MLA gets notice over law & order breach during Jagan visit
Vijayawada: Podili police of Prakasam district issued a formal notice to Darsi MLA Buchepalli Shivaprasad Reddy in connection with multiple incidents that allegedly disrupted law and order in Podili town on June 11, during the visit of former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. According to the notice issued by the Podili inspector of police, the incidents occurred despite prior intimation and specific instructions issued to the legislator and his party regarding security arrangements for the high-profile visit. In the lead-up to the visit, the police carried out a site inspection of the designated helipad location at a local degree college in Podili and communicated several security protocols to the MLA. These included the mandatory establishment of a 200-metre zone around the helipad, limiting access to a single VIP convoy and one accompanying bus, as well as strict adherence to guidelines by party workers. The police reiterated that these protocols were conveyed in advance to ensure a smooth and secure visit. However, on the day of the event, several violations were reported by the police. Party workers allegedly breached the zone and forcibly removed barricades that were installed as part of the security arrangements. In addition to this, numerous private vehicles, which were not granted prior permission, reportedly made their way to the helipad area, further complicating the security situation. The notice also highlights that YSRCP activists allegedly attempted to assault members of other political parties who were present in the town and engaged in throwing footwear and stones. Police were reportedly injured in the process, and their official duties were disrupted. Additionally, the VIP convoy route was obstructed, posing a significant security concern. SP Trophy Cricket Tournament organised in Ongole
Seven teams, including Ongole, Darsi, Markapuram, Kanigiri, Armed Reserve (AR), SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) and IT (information Technology) Core teams, have participated in SP Trophy Cricket Tournament organised by Prakasam District Police Department at the District Parade Ground on Tuesday. Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar has inaugurated the tournament and watched the cricket matches with interest. Speaking on the occasion, he said, 'One should participate in games with sportsmanship spirit. Winning or losing is not important.' He said, 'The sports would increase happiness as well as physical strength. Police officers and personnel who are constantly on duty can get rid of stress through sports. Cricket is not just a sport, it is very helpful in leading the team with inspiring leadership qualities. It helps in developing things like discipline, perseverance and fighting spirit.' 'The police should always be in the forefront of serving the people. At the same time, they should also pay attention to their health. In these matches, the players performed their best, demonstrating team cohesion and sportsmanship,' the SP said, wishing the police personnel the best of luck. UN backs probe into Libyan MP's disappearance
In a separate development, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed a visit by the country's Attorney General to Benghazi to investigate the disappearance of Ibrahim al-Darsi, a member of the Libyan House of Representatives. Mr Darsi has been missing since 18 May 2024, after publicly criticising the concentration of power among the sons of eastern commander Khalifa Haftar. UNSMIL said it hoped the investigation would help uncover Mr Darsi's fate and ensure accountability for his disappearance. The mission called for full transparency and cooperation from authorities, adding it was prepared to support the investigation and help answer "the legitimate questions" raised by Mr Darsi's family. Last week, distressing footage was leaked online showing Mr Darsi shackled and in underwear inside a detention cell, reportedly filmed six days after his abduction. Rights groups have long accused armed factions in Libya, particularly in the east, of operating with impunity in the face of growing reports of arbitrary arrests, torture, and enforced disappearances.
