A huge new nightclub and live music venue is opening in suburban Sydney next month
When the latest stretch of Sydney Metro opened back in August, Bella Vista – the leafy suburb in Sydney's Hills Shire – became a whole lot more accessible, with a direct metro line zipping straight there from Martin Place in just under 45 minutes. Now, there's a new reason to catch the metro out to the Hills, with Bella Vista set to welcome a huge new entertainment venue ready to host everything from techno-soundtracked club nights to major sporting events. Intrigued? Us too. With the telling name 'Bella Live', the multifunction new venue is dedicated to hosting live events, with the aim of becoming 'the beating heart of entertainment in the Hills.' Occupying a massive 1,029m² former warehouse, it's been engineered to host major touring acts – with three main rooms kitted out with custom audio systems, LED stage lighting, projection-style immersive lighting, and an AV system integrated throughout. Sydney-based architecture firm Archebiosis Architects was tasked with the design – bringing to life a warehouse-style space that combines an edgy, industrial aesthetic with sleek, modern design features. The result is a vast, super-club-style space complete with a 17.5-metre bar and a huge 10 x 8-metre stage flanked by VIP booths. Wondering what's coming up? At this stage, the program (which will kick off with a huge opening night on Saturday, August 9) features weekly Friday club nights, an Oktoberfest celebration on Sunday, September 28, and a special show from Aussie icon Daryl Braithwaite on Sunday, November 16. So far on the DJ front, Bella Live has locked in high-octane sets from SEKTA & Wongo (August 16), Set Mo (August 23), JaySounds (August 30), and Bag Raiders (September 6) – to name a few. With high-spec staging, audio and lighting, plus luxe green rooms and private ensuites for performers, the venue is aiming to position itself as a go-to for international artists. For sports fans, Bella Live will show UFC, F1, and Premier League action on giant screens, with plans for celebrity lunches, athlete meet-and-greets, and game-day brand activations in the works. Other events set to be hosted at the big new space include open mic nights, improv shows, author talks, weekend markets, and silent discos – it's absolutely not a one-trick pony. Back home, BYD's new ute was put through its paces in the red dirt of South Australia's Flinders Ranges by veteran motoring journalist Toby Hagon who handed down some gentle criticism of its fuel consumption before praising the hybrid offering: TOBY HAGON: Early indications are that this is a pretty solid thing. This is certainly very capable. But what really set tongues wagging in the motoring world was the fact that these pictures were not the result of the commonplace press junket arranged by car companies. In fact, Toby Hagon and Bruce Newton had entered into what was previously a secret commercial arrangement with BYD and its Australian distributor. Through their own private companies the freelance reporters accepted the offer of a job from BYD to arrange their own outback trip, provide the company their footage, be reimbursed for their expenses and at the end of the day to trouser a handy little chunk of profit. And yet none of this arrangement had been declared to their audiences or their publishers. So when several months ago some of those outlets caught wind something was awry in the men' s dealings with BYD they suspended their relationship with the writers. told us it has not published Toby Hagon's articles since March and Victoria's RACV said it no longer engages Bruce Newton or Toby Hagon: Independence and our members and customers trust is at the core of RACV and has been for 122 years … … we confirm the journalists referenced are no longer engaged by RACV for any future work. - Email, RACV Spokesperson, 6 July 2025 Both and the ABC are now examining the revelations. Lavish press junkets in which motoring journalists are whisked about the globe in great style may be commonplace but it's another thing entirely when some of the cash being splashed about finds its way into the journalist's back pocket.
