Chris Kent shares hilarious differences of parenting in Cork v London

Comedian Chris Kent has opened up on the differences of parenting in London versus Cork, admitting he 'didn't fit in' in the UK. The Cork man is married to Tipperary teacher Niamh, with the pair sharing two children. Though they are now based in Cork, the family did spend a period of time across the pond, where they lived in Saint Albans, just outside of London. He explained: 'In the sort of mummy groups and all that, I was often the only dad there as well, and I speak like this and it's just a little bit different. 'You have to be so careful these days with kids and food and you can't share your kid's snacks with other people because allergies and all that, and I remember one day a little kid came over and tried to take a snack.' Chris recalled telling the youngster to check with their mum, before then asking the child's mum himself if he had any allergies. He said: 'She's like, 'No, no,' but she took the little bar and started reading the ingredients and she was like: 'Oh, no. Charlie, no, no, no.' 'I was like, 'Ye can have that; I'm after hoofing about nine of them into my young fella already, you may as well have that.'' 'There was a five-year-old's birthday party on my estate and one of the neighbours said, 'I think we should have a mocktail party for them.' For the children?' he detailed. 'I was like, 'I think it's a brilliant idea; I'll bring a bit of sherbet, we'll make it a no-caine party altogether.'' On returning to Cork, he admitted that he did question if there would be any differences. One commented: 'We are certainly very different from the English.' Another added: 'Brilliant! No-caine party absolutely creased me.' Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald, actor Simon Pegg and singer turned podcaster Paloma Faith were also guests on Friday's Late Late Show. Music was provided by rapper KhakiKid, who has seen his song Date Nite blowing up across the country.

Who is KhakiKid? Rising star set for Late Late Show debut

Dublin rapper KhakiKid is set to make his debut on the Late Late Show this Friday. The Dubliner, whose real name is Abdu Hess, has been making waves on the Irish music scene for the last few years; with his song Date Nite blowing up and getting radio play. And if you've never heard of the rapper, you may have heard the catchy melody on the radio, TV, or on TikTok, particularly the lyrics surrounding your to-be ex boyfriend being scared of any kids over six in a tracksuit — with him finally making his Irish TV debut this Friday. View this post on Instagram A post shared by KHAKI (@khakikid) KhakiKid was born and raised in Crumlin as one of five siblings alongside their mum, with him previously joking that he had to grow up fast growing up in such a loud household. Turning to music, the young artist began writing and producing songs with lyrics surrounding his love life, identity and his upbringing, producing music from his bedroom and writing songs. Abdu Hess, also known as KhakiKid, has been making music since an early age — with his latest EP, Moanbag, making waves in the Irish scene. Pic: Kieran Frost/Redferns In 2020, Abdu released his first single Last Week, featuring Nafets and Jessy Rose — with his lyrics and alternative beats being compared to the late Mac Miller and Anderson .Paak. He released several new singles and EPs, including Shlumped Up, Cozy and Woodstock, before releasing his first EP Elevator Music in 2022. He went on to perform at Longitude in 2022, before releasing his second EP, sand bebé, in 2023. He has since released his biggest EP, Moanbag, earlier this year — with that EP featuring his hit single Date Nite featuring Saint Demarcus — which has since been streamed over 500,000 times on Spotify. KhakiKid will be performing on the Late Late Show this Friday, with a number of big gigs lined up this summer. Abdu is set to perform at a number of festivals including Forbidden Fruit, will be opening up for Miami-Dade County's own Denzel Curry this May at the National Stadium, and will be playing two headline shows at Folklore in London and The Cobblestone in Dublin, also this May. This summer is set to be his breakout year.
