Courtyard Marriott Oahu North Shore launches community talks
The Courtyard Marriott Oahu North Shore has launched Talk Story & Makeke, a bimonthly program focused on storytelling and handmade goods. It brings visitors and kamaaina (locals) together to listen to authentic stories of Hawaii from community members.
"Our goal is to offer something meaningful not just to our guests, but to our community, neighbors and those that call this place home," Dave Betham, general manager of the Courtyard Marriott Oahu North Shore, said in a news release. "Talk Story & Makeke celebrates culture, elevates local voices and creates opportunities for visitors and residents to connect through shared experiences. It helps preserve traditions while supporting local businesses and our neighbors and ohana."
Upcoming talk story sessions are held in the hotel's conference room and highlight local voices and cultural leaders, including a special tribute to a renowned hula teacher on July 9 and a visit from Gunstock Ranch on July 23.
The makeke (marketplace) features product offerings such as Tahitian art, jewelry and Tongan apparel.
The program is free and open to the public. Call ahead for more information on future sessions.
