BREAKING NEWS Injury-stricken Los Angeles Dodgers trade for pitcher Will Klein after Evan Phillips was ruled out for season
The Los Angeles Dodgers desperately need some help in the bullpen, with 15 pitchers currently on the injured list. A reinforcement arrived Monday, but it was a surprising name as the World Series holders acquired right-hander Will Klein in a trade with the Seattle Mariners, sending minor league left-hander Joe Jacques the other way. Klein, 25, has eight career major league appearances, all last season for the Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics when he had an 11.05 ERA in 7 1/3 innings of relief. He had a 7.17 ERA in 22 appearances at Triple-A Tacoma this season. Those numbers might not spark huge excitement among the fanbase of the World Series winners, especially with their bullpen besieged by injuries at present. Last Friday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced that reliever Evan Phillips was ruled out until deep into 2026 with an elbow issue that requires Tommy John surgery. 'It's surprising,' Roberts said, shortly before his team played the New York Yankees. 'More disappointed for Evan, but he just wasn't responding to the rest and then [trying] to ramp back up. 'Ultimately, that was kind of the advice and the route he decided to go.' The Dodgers added Klein and right-hander Ryan Loutos to the active roster in advance of Monday's series opener at home against the New York Mets, while right-hander Noah Davis was optioned to the minor leagues and right-hander Chris Stratton was designated for assignment. Loutos, 26, was recalled after he had one appearance with the Dodgers earlier this season, when he gave up two runs in one inning. He had three appearances with the St. Louis Cardinals last season and has a career 5.40 ERA in 3 1/3 innings. Davis, 28, had a 5.79 ERA in four relief appearances with the Dodgers this season, while Stratton, 34, had a 6.00 ERA in two relief appearances for Los Angeles. Jacques, 30, is 2-1 with a 5.46 ERA and one save in 25 career games (one start) with the Boston Red Sox (2023-24) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2024).

Dave Roberts in Disbelief Over Aaron Judge After Dodgers-Yankees Series
Dave Roberts in Disbelief Over Aaron Judge After Dodgers-Yankees Series originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the New York Yankees for the first time since the 2024 World Series. The Dodgers won the series 2-1, which included an 18-2 clobbering in game two. But the two runs the Dodgers gave up in that game left Dodgers manager Dave Roberts in disbelief. Advertisement In part of Bob Nightengale's article for USA Today, he included Roberts' reaction to Yankees superstar Aaron Judge. After the Dodgers' 18-2 victory, Roberts shared his disbelief at Judge's offensive prowess. "It was more disbelief," Roberts said, "and I felt okay with it. Apologies to Stratton, but I like superstars, so I was okay giving up a solo homer right there to watch him." Robert's comments stem from the eighth inning, in which the Dodgers were up 15-1 and had effectively put the game out of reach. But, before the game was done, Judge hit his second solo home run of the night, this time off reliever Chris Stratton. Judge's second home run went 425 feet to left center field and was his 21st home run of the season. He's third in MLB in home runs, behind both Shohei Ohtani and Cal Raleigh. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts (30) walks to the mound for a pitching change in the eighth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Dodger Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images Offensively, there has been no better player than Judge through the first two months of the season. His offensive prowess has even opposing managers in awe, and in Roberts' case, okay with his players giving up home runs. Advertisement Robert's disbelief surrounding Judge's offensive performance is warranted. Judge is putting together one of the best offensive seasons ever, and he's doing so in the modern era, where the offensive numbers he's compiling are hard to come by. Judge has the highest batting average in MLB at .391, fourth most RBI at 50, the most hits at 86, and the highest OPS in MLB at 1.249. His OPS is nearly .200 points higher than Freddie Freeman's, who has the second-highest OPS in baseball. Disbelief is a fitting description for what Judge has done offensively so far in 2025. Roberts is likely not the only manager who looks on at what Judge is doing in disbelief. Despite his team giving up two home runs in the same game, Roberts was okay with it because he, like most fans, likes to watch superstars play at a high level. Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts Lowers Season Expectations After Injury News
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Los Angeles Dodgers enjoyed a strong showing against the New York Yankees on Saturday, posting 18 runs to earn their second win of the series. But even after such a strong showing against one of the best teams in the American League, there's reason to believe the Dodgers will struggle in their quest to win back-to-back championships. The team has been plagued by pitching injuries, as it was last year, and has used 13 different starters so far this season with several relievers on the injured list as well. Though the Dodgers overcame a similar problem to win it all last season, the team attempted to fortify its staff with several additions this past winter, and the fact that the problem has persisted is forcing manager Dave Roberts to reevaluate. In the latest injury news, key reliever Evan Phillips has been ruled out for the rest of the season and perhaps 2026 as well. Speaking with The New York Post's Jon Heyman, Roberts "admitted they need to lower near-term expectations." (Photo by)"I'm just thinking about holding serve," Roberts said. "With the teams we play, if we can just hold serve, come July and beyond, when we get to full health, we can take off from there." The Dodgers still have reason to believe they will be in better shape come the playoff time. Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani is working his way back to the mound, as are Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Roki Sasaki. But, given the number of arms that have faltered as the calendar turns to June, the team might need to start planning for some reinforcements. The front office went on another offseason shopping spree to avoid becoming a buyer at the trade deadline but that plan could still change. Dodgers Trade Idea Lands Lane Thomas to Bolster Lineup
At the trade deadline last season, there weren't many players better than Lane Thomas who were moved. Thomas was traded to the Cleveland Guardians from the Washington Nationals, but he's struggled during his time in Cleveland. Advertisement After hitting .209 for them in the second half of last year, and .156 to start this season with no home runs, it's tough to see a scenario where a team might want to take him. Thomas is also out with an injury and has been for over a month. However, Jason Fray of Dodgers Nation pitched the idea of Los Angeles trading for him, adding that Los Angeles could be interested in him, given that he'll hit free agency at the end of the year. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts (30) gets ready for a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Scuteri-Imagn Images 'Granted, this is an out-of-left-field possibility. If you squint hard enough, there could be something here. Cleveland is notorious in not spending a ton of money. 'Depending on who you ask, the thought of re-signing Thomas to a multi-year deal might not sound all that appetizing from the Guardians' standpoint. He will be a free agent at season's end, and if they do plan on letting him walk, it would be prudent to nab something in return for him,' he wrote. Advertisement The Guardians might not want to sell at the deadline, but as for Thomas, it wouldn't be surprising to see them do so. They love to save money, and if they don't plan to sign Thomas in free agency, losing him for nothing wouldn't make much sense. He's only played in 13 games this season, but ignoring his production is tough. He's currently posting a 6 OPS+, and while it's still very early, as he's only had 45 at-bats, that's concerning. Mookie Betts' late-night mishap leaves Dodgers star sidelined for 2nd straight game with broken toe
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts fractured his fourth left toe and missed his second straight game Saturday. "The last couple days, it's been hard for him to even put on a shoe, so that's obviously why he's not in the lineup," manager Dave Roberts said. "But I still don't believe it's going to be an IL stint. I think day-to-day is fair right now." Roberts said Betts injured himself after the Dodgers returned from their road trip midweek. "It was something in the middle of the night in his house, in his bedroom," he said. "It was dark and he kind of hit something." Rookie Hyeseong Kim started in Betts' place Saturday against the New York Yankees. Betts missed the Dodgers' season-opening series in Japan with an illness that caused him to drop weight because he wasn't able to keep food down.
