Dave Roberts in Disbelief Over Aaron Judge After Dodgers-Yankees Series originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the New York Yankees for the first time since the 2024 World Series. The Dodgers won the series 2-1, which included an 18-2 clobbering in game two. But the two runs the Dodgers gave up in that game left Dodgers manager Dave Roberts in disbelief.

In part of Bob Nightengale's article for USA Today, he included Roberts' reaction to Yankees superstar Aaron Judge. After the Dodgers' 18-2 victory, Roberts shared his disbelief at Judge's offensive prowess.
"It was more disbelief," Roberts said, "and I felt okay with it. Apologies to Stratton, but I like superstars, so I was okay giving up a solo homer right there to watch him."
Robert's comments stem from the eighth inning, in which the Dodgers were up 15-1 and had effectively put the game out of reach. But, before the game was done, Judge hit his second solo home run of the night, this time off reliever Chris Stratton.
Judge's second home run went 425 feet to left center field and was his 21st home run of the season. He's third in MLB in home runs, behind both Shohei Ohtani and Cal Raleigh.

Offensively, there has been no better player than Judge through the first two months of the season. His offensive prowess has even opposing managers in awe, and in Roberts' case, okay with his players giving up home runs.

Robert's disbelief surrounding Judge's offensive performance is warranted. Judge is putting together one of the best offensive seasons ever, and he's doing so in the modern era, where the offensive numbers he's compiling are hard to come by.
Judge has the highest batting average in MLB at .391, fourth most RBI at 50, the most hits at 86, and the highest OPS in MLB at 1.249. His OPS is nearly .200 points higher than Freddie Freeman's, who has the second-highest OPS in baseball.
Disbelief is a fitting description for what Judge has done offensively so far in 2025. Roberts is likely not the only manager who looks on at what Judge is doing in disbelief.
Despite his team giving up two home runs in the same game, Roberts was okay with it because he, like most fans, likes to watch superstars play at a high level.

Chicago Bears Linked to Nick Chubb by Insider

Chicago Bears Linked to Nick Chubb by Insider originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Bears are officially entering a pivotal stage of their offseason program with mandatory OTAs beginning this week. While the focus is on player development and system install under new head coach Ben Johnson, another narrative is quietly building around the team's roster. As the window for unrestricted free agents nears its next phase, one decorated name in the backfield has surfaced as a possible late-offseason pickup—drawing attention from both insiders and fans alike. Advertisement Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb, 29, has been one of the league's most consistent ball carriers since entering the NFL in 2018. A four-time Pro Bowler and former second-team All-Pro, Chubb has compiled over 6,500 rushing yards despite battling injuries late in his career. After suffering a devastating knee injury early in the 2023 season, his future with the Cleveland Browns has become increasingly uncertain. ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, speaking on ESPN Cleveland and in a clip shared on X (formerly Twitter), weighed in on Chubb's next move: 'I do not expect him back with the Browns,' Fowler said, adding, 'the Bears and Commanders come to mind just in general terms as teams that could be looking for an extra back.' The Bears already feature veteran D'Andre Swift, who narrowly missed the 1,000-yard mark last season, along with Roschon Johnson and rookie Kyle Monangai, selected with the 233rd pick in April. Nick ChubbGetty Images While the room has depth, Chubb's power, leadership, and playoff experience could add another layer to an evolving offense looking to take the next step. Soldier FieldGetty Images The question now becomes whether Chicago, building around a young quarterback and a revamped offensive identity, would take the risk on a high-upside veteran recovering from injury. No move has been confirmed, but if the buzz is any indication, the Bears could be exploring every option to build a complete, competitive roster. Cole Kmet Reacts to Bears Drafting Colston Loveland in First Round

Cole Kmet Reacts to Bears Drafting Colston Loveland in First Round originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Position battles are heating up across the Chicago Bears roster, but one situation in particular stands out in the tight end room. With mandatory mini camp underway, one veteran didn't hide his reaction to a major organizational decision. After five seasons with the Bears, including a leadership role on and off the field, he found himself in unfamiliar territory after a high-profile draft move signaled a shift in strategy. Advertisement Cole Kmet, the five-year veteran tight end drafted in the second round back in 2020, was candid when asked about the Bears' decision to select Colston Loveland 10th overall in this year's draft. Kmet's comments came after the first day of mini camp and were shared by Dave, Senior NFL Writer for SM, on X (formerly Twitter). 'I think at first you're taken aback a little bit,' Kmet admitted. 'But Ben [Johnson] was awesome about it in terms of calling me right away and kind of explaining the decision. From there, you're just all on board on it.' He continued: 'You understand that there's going to be areas where we complement each other, and then there's obviously… areas where we compete for things. And that's football and that's how it should be.' 'The goal with it is to become the best 12-tandem in the league and see where we can take it from there.' Last season, Kmet posted 47 receptions for 474 yards and four touchdowns—a noticeable drop from prior years. Meanwhile, Loveland, though currently recovering from shoulder surgery, arrives as a mismatch nightmare out of Michigan, known for his route-running and after-catch ability. Ben JohnsonGetty Images If the Bears' vision pans out, the pairing could become one of the most dangerous tight end duos in the league. The added competition should elevate both players—something the new coaching staff under Ben Johnson is clearly counting on. Giants lose to Padres in 10 innings for 2nd night in a row

Manny Machado had four hits, including a two-run single that tied the score with two outs in the ninth inning, and Jake Cronenworth drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th as the San Diego Padres rallied past the San Francisco Giants 3-2 on Tuesday night. One day after winning the series opener 1-0 in 10 innings, the Padres needed extras again. Giants closer Camilo Doval walked Fernando Tatis Jr. and Luis Arraez with two outs in the ninth to load the bases for Machado, who finished 4 for 4. Scott Strazzante/San Francisco Chronicle via Getty Images Spencer Bivens (1-2) retired the first two batters in the 10th before Cronenworth hit a grounder past diving first baseman Casey Schmitt to score automatic runner Jackson Merrill from third. Yuki Matsui (1-1) pitched a perfect ninth and Jeremiah Estrada got three quick outs for his second save. With a runner at third base after a sacrifice bunt, Estrada retired Heliot Ramos and Jung Hoo Lee on grounders to shortstop to end it. Ramos provided San Francisco's lone highlight at the plate with his 11th homer, a two-run shot in the third, but it wasn't enough to lift his team out of its offensive funk. The Giants have scored four runs or fewer in 16 consecutive games, their second-longest such streak since moving to San Francisco in 1958. Giants starter Landen Roupp allowed four hits in 6 1/3 shutout innings. Padres rookie Ryan Bergert, called up from Triple-A El Paso before the game, allowed two runs and six hits over five innings in his first major league start. After the Padres' first two hitters reached base in the eighth, Giants third baseman Matt Chapman made a terrific play to snag Merrill's grounder and then stepped on the bag before throwing across the diamond to complete the double play. Before giving up the tying runs in the ninth, Doval had not allowed a run in 20 2/3 innings. It was the longest active streak in the majors. Padres RHP Nick Pivetta (6-2, 2.74 ERA) faces Giants LHP Kyle Harrison (1-1, 2.51) on Wednesday.
