Gold Coast penthouse sets record with $19.57 million sale

The Gold Coast's luxury apartment market has notched another record with the $19,568,000 sale of a full-floor penthouse in the Royale Gold Coast development-just weeks after the project set a previous benchmark with a $19.18 million penthouse sale. Together, the two penthouse deals have generated over $38 million in off-the-plan sales, marking the highest transactions of their kind in Surfers Paradise history and reinforcing the city's newfound prestige in the national property market. The latest deal, for Penthouse 3601 on level 36, was secured by a local businessman who had originally purchased a half-floor residence in the building, only to upgrade when the full-floor penthouse was released to market. As the tower's form has become more prominent during construction, the buyer was drawn by the opportunity to secure an expansive, uninterrupted coastal view from a residence unlike anything else in the region. " Royale Gold Coast is unlike any other project in the Australian market," said David Devine, founder and managing director of DD Living. "Its sculptural form, premium north-east orientation and floor-to-ceiling glass have been meticulously designed to maximise natural light and capture uninterrupted 360-degree views across the ocean, hinterland and city skyline." Each penthouse offers over 660 square metres of indoor and outdoor space, with features including a gourmet kitchen fitted with Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, an oversized butler's pantry, glass-enclosed wine cellar, full-sized bar, formal dining for 14, and expansive indoor-outdoor entertaining zones. The master suite occupies the entire eastern wing and includes a resort-style ensuite with a freestanding bath, double showers and floor-to-ceiling glass offering uninterrupted ocean vistas. Residents of Royale will also enjoy six-star resort-style amenities such as two lagoon pools, a wellness centre with spa, cold plunge, sauna and yoga terrace, as well as the private Club Royale residents' lounge with an executive kitchen and beachfront views. According to luxury apartment specialist Adrian Parsons, Managing Director of TOTAL Property Group, the Gold Coast's prestige apartment sector is being fuelled by both demand and a significant shift in who's buying. "Many of the purchasers in the luxury apartment market are local Gold Coast owner-occupiers intending to live in the residences full-time," Parsons said. "We're also seeing strong demand from Brisbane and interstate buyers. While some are securing apartments as premium holiday homes, a significant proportion are planning a permanent move to the Gold Coast to enjoy the lifestyle on offer year-round." Parsons attributes the current boom to the city's broader transformation into a diversified economic hub. "The Gold Coast has matured significantly in recent years, evolving into a more resilient economy that is no longer solely reliant on tourism," he said. "This transformation has supported continued interstate migration, with more people choosing to make the Gold Coast their permanent home. The region's lifestyle, climate, and world-class amenities continue to attract high-end apartment buyers seeking both luxury and liveability." With absolute beachfront development sites now scarce, Parsons also noted that developers are turning their attention to emerging lifestyle markets across Southeast Queensland. "These areas offer strong long-term growth potential and are gaining attention from both developers and discerning buyers alike," he said.

Owner Nev Morgan's unwavering belief in Kovalica pays off with a last stride victory in the Group 2 Q22 at Eagle Farm

Prominent Queensland owner Nev Morgan never doubted Kovalica would win another race. He just didn't know when. But the stars aligned on Saturday and Kovalica returned to the scene of his Group 1 Queensland Derby triumph of 2023 – the last time he won a race – to score the rich Q22 (2200m). But it was far from an easy watch to break the long winning drought as Kovalica dived at New Endeavour on the line and no one at Eagle Farm had much of an idea who had won. Not even Morgan, who thought he might have been narrowly beaten. But when the judge put the winner's number up, Kovalica was in the frame. Kovalica may have not won for a long time and he has often been a tease. But in fairness he has raced at a high level including tackling a Cox Plate, Melbourne Cup, Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Doncaster Miles. 'Of course I thought he would win again,' Morgan, who owns Kovalica with fellow Queenslander and great mate David Devine, said. 'Even before today, he had won $3.3 million in prizemoney. 'He races in all the good races. 'I hope he could even be a Melbourne Cup horse this year, he only got beaten four lengths in the race last year. Kovalica WINS the G2 Q22 by a whisker! ðŸ'¥ @cwallerracing @nashhot â€' SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) June 14, 2025 • Cool Archie delivers Group 1 milestones in JJ Atkins 'The maestro (Chris Waller) will work all that out. 'I didn't think this horse had won on the line today but my son-in-law said he thought he had, so I'm glad he was right.' Winning rider Nash Rawiller also had no idea whether Kovalica had broken the drought. 'It was a long ride back to scale, making sure that I'd got there,' Rawiller said. 'I feel like I've redeemed myself for saying he'd win the Melbourne Cup last year. 'What a horse he's been. 'We made a call during the week – as late as Tuesday morning – to put the blinkers on today. 'You could tell in the run that he was going to do something. 'I've had a bit of a shit time lately, so I feel like I've bounced right back in a big way.' Plenty have questioned whether Kovalica would get back to the winner's stall, but not Waller and his team. 'We haven't lost faith in him and he's been a good horse without winning,' Waller said. 'It took the length of the Eagle Farm straight to get there. 'That's his first win for a couple of years. 'He's been working to something good.'

London end title drought over devastated Derry in Christy Ring Cup final

David Devine gave his best display yet in a London jersey, shooting a terrific 1-12, as the Exiles held firm to claim the Christy Ring Cup title. A strong final-quarter performance that included six points in a row at one stage, ultimately won it for London who have claimed a first title since 2012. Their reward is a place in next season's Joe McDonagh Cup competition. That will be a significant jump in standards, though Devine has shown that it's possible to move seamlessly from one grade of hurling to another. The Westmeath man was a Warwickshire player just last year, but moved to London for 2025 and was the difference in this final. In all, London scored eight of the game's last 12 points as they turned the screw late on - and Devine scored five of those. The Kilburn Gaels clubman also scored London's goal midway through the first half, while Enda Egan and Dylan Dawson contributed seven points between them in the breakthrough win. But it's agony again for Derry who have slipped to their third final defeat in a row and their fourth in five seasons. They got it back to a one-point game late on, and appeared to have momentum on their side at that stage, but 72nd and 74th-minute points from Devine secured the win for London. Derry topped the Ring Cup group previously, and significantly, beat London by 2-19 to 1-18 when they met in the round robin. London previously slipped up in the Division 3 National League final against Mayo, who played earlier today in the lower tier Rackard Cup final. Derry supporters travelled to Croke Park optimistic about finally ending their streak of Ring Cup final defeats. But they never managed to get ahead of a slick and fully focused London side that led for the majority of the contest. London signalled their appetite for destruction with four of the game's first five points. Devine struck two of those from frees and then popped up at the back post to volley to the net following Sean Glynn's run through the centre and lay-off. Slaughtneil's Cormac O'Doherty was Derry's main scorer, hitting nine points overall. London led by 1-15 to 1-12 at half-time though a resurgent Derry wiped out the deficit after the restart, drawing level at 1-19 apiece in the 52nd minute, when Cushendall clubman Christy McNaughton hit his third point of the day. That's when things got really interesting because London reeled off six points in a row in response, seizing control of the game and then wincing as Derry picked off four points themselves. Eamon Conway had a strong second half for Derry, and clipped over their last score in the 71st minute, leaving a point in it at that stage. London weren't to be denied, and pulled clear for the three-point win with those two stoppage-time Devine scores. Derry were awarded a free in at the death, but O'Doherty's rasping shot was blocked on the line for a 65 that also failed to yield the goal they needed to force extra-time.
