Riley Minix hits overtime game winner as the Spurs beat the Jazz

The clock read 1.9 seconds. Utah Jazz big man Kyle Filipowski stormed around the court screaming, 'This is my (expletive)' and a few other curse words. He was rightfully fired up after a game-tying poster dunk over San Antonio Spurs rookie Carter Bryant. His exuberance would be short-lived. San Antonio drew up a play to get Bryant some revenge with a lob or give the ball to their second overall pick, Dylan Harper, who had sent the game to overtime with a game-tying layup at the end of regulation. With neither option open, the ball found the hands of undrafted free agent turned two-way player, Riley Minix. The Morehead State product quickly turned to the baseline and put up a prayer fadeaway that splashed in to secure a 93-91 win over the Jazz. Advertisement With the win, the Spurs improved to 3-0 in the Las Vegas Summer League and have a +29 point differential. A win on Thursday night against the Charlotte Hornets would likely put San Antonio in the semi-finals with a chance to win the summer league championships. They don't hang banners for summer league titles, but it's great to see the young squad competing at a high level. The communication, defensive effort, and resilience are exactly what you'd like to see from a group of young, hungry players. Chief among those players is David Jones-Garcia, who had another great game for the Spurs. He finished with 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists while shooting 5-11 from three. Jones-Garcia is having an unbelievable summer league run. Forget a two-way contract, he deserves a full-time roster spot. Whether it is in San Antonio or elsewhere. Typically, the 'too good for summer league' title is reserved for second-year players who are forced to play a few games before getting shut down. Jones-Garcia is the rare G Leaguer who is truly too good for this stage. He's ready for the NBA. Harper was solid in his second summer league game. He had 16 points, but struggled with turnovers, coughing up the ball 5 times. Bryant's offensive woes continued as he finished with 5 points on 2-11 shooting from the field. He continues to shine on the defensive end and had two blocks in the win. Advertisement This was a bounce-back game for Harrison Ingram, who has struggled a bit in the summer league. He made good passes and fought hard on the glass. He notched a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds while tossing 6 assists. The Spurs will have a tough test ahead of them in the Hornets, who are also undefeated. Harper's status will be one to watch. He played 25 minutes, more than the 20-minute restriction San Antonio put him on in his first game. Either way, the Spurs should have plenty of exciting players to watch as the summer league comes to a close. More from

Spurs fans are buzzing after thrilling finish to Summer League game vs. Warriors

The post Spurs fans are buzzing after thrilling finish to Summer League game vs. Warriors appeared first on ClutchPoints. NBA fans continue to be spoiled; just two weeks after the final buzzer had sounded to mark the end of the 2025 NBA Finals, there is plenty of action to be had already — with the Summer League kicking off in Salt Lake and in California. And on Sunday, the California Classic brought fans a barnburner, with the San Antonio Spurs overcoming the Golden State Warriors, 90-88, in what was quite an exhilarating finish to the ballgame. Advertisement The Spurs may not have had Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant active, but that did not make the game any less exciting. After all, the Warriors' Summer Leaguers gave it their all. Warriors guard Will Richard, in particular, looked as though he was going to shoot Golden State into the victory after he drained a triple to cut the Spurs' lead to just one with around 30 seconds left in the contest. However, Richard could not make it two triples in a row, with his attempt at a game-winning three at the buzzer clanking off the front iron of the rim, sealing the Spurs' victory. The Spurs' blue-chip prospects may not have played, but that only opened up the opportunity for David Jones-Garcia, a Memphis alum, to do the bulk of the heavy lifting for San Antonio. He finished with 25 points on an extremely efficient 9-14 shooting night from the field. He made four of his seven three-point attempts, and even though he turned the ball over six times, he flashed quite the three-level scoring game. Advertisement Fans celebrated this Spurs win on X, with many giving props to Jones-Garcia for his excellent performance. 'Ok who the heck is David Jones-Garcia ? ! ! ! 😳 I am looking and I am liking !!! I'm already a believer, sign him Wright, sign him!' @TonyTexas47 wrote. 'Hell yeah that David jones-Garcia kid looks real good,' @AuwaerterD9040 added. Spurs to find their next undrafted gem? Brett Davis-Imagn Images The Spurs, over the past 30 or s0 years, have made it a habit to develop an undrafted gem into a quality role player in the NBA. Bruce Bowen might be the best example of this. Avery Johnson was a key contributor on the 1999 Spurs squad that won the NBA Finals. Jonathon Simmons was quite the player for the Spurs for a while. And in today's roster, Julian Champagnie has developed into one of the best role players in the league, a true 3-and-D player who can catch fire from deep rather quickly. Advertisement Perhaps Jones-Garcia would be the next in a long line of undrafted Spurs gems. The little-known Spurs player who's raising eyebrows during Summer League

The post The little-known Spurs player who's raising eyebrows during Summer League appeared first on ClutchPoints. With their two first-round selections both out, David Jones-Garcia continued to lead the San Antonio Spurs NBA Summer League team. The 23-year-old native of the Dominican Republic put in 25 points on Sunday, pacing the squad after doing the same in their California opener by scoring 18. Advertisement 'Mike (Noyes – Spurs Summer League coach) talked to me in a one-on-one meeting, and he told me what he needs from me and the team would need from me in Summer League,' Jones-Garcia said. 'So I was just trying my best to help the team just win as many games as we can.' The first-time Spur helped seal a 90-88 victory versus the Golden State Warriors with free throws in the final seconds. He added three rebounds and the same number in both assists and steals. It's an all-around effort Jones-Garcia said derives from instructions. 'Be more focused on defense and make the right decision every time and then just shoot more catch-and-shoot shots,' he said of conversations with Mike Noyes. Advertisement David Jones-Garcia talks early experience with Spurs Carter Bryant, one of the Spurs' two first-round selections, did not play in the summer team's second game after he scored seven points in his debut. The second overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft, Dylan Harper is not suiting up for any of their three games in the California Classic out of precaution because of a groin injury. Jones-Garcia has helped fill the gaps. 'He's been excellent,' Noyes said. 'He's super coachable. Talking with him after the game, he wants to do what's best for the team, and I thought he gave us a great boost.' Noyes became an assistant coach for the Spurs last season after spending the previous five years with the Memphis Grizzlies under former Spurs coach Taylor Jenkins. This is his first go-around in coaching San Antonio's Summer League squad. Advertisement 'I love Coach,' Jones-Garcia said. 'Since day one, he's been helping me a lot, so I love him as a coach and even better as a person, as a human being.' 'Ever since I got to San Antonio, they've welcomed me with open arms.' David Jones-Garcia has previous professional experience A native of Santo Domingo, Jones-Garcia stands 6-foot-6. After playing his high school ball at Teays Valley Christian School in West Virginia, he bounced around in college, suiting up for DePaul, St. John's and Memphis and was not drafted by the NBA in 2024. He initially played professionally for the Mexico City Capitanes before signing a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz later that year, splitting time with their G League affiliate in Salt Lake City. Advertisement For the moment, Jones-Garcia is keeping his focus on the Summer Spurs. 'Just to come more together. It's a long summer. This the first tournament we have, and we're going to Vegas right after, so I think with these type of games, playing early before we get to Vegas, we get to bond a little bit more. Then we'll be prepared for Vegas.' In the meantime, Noyes and the Spurs are reaping the benefit of Jones-Garcia's contributions. 'He's great for us.' From the opening tip to the final buzzer, the Spurs executed with precision, attacking from all areas of the floor and making the Sixers pay for every defensive misstep. San Antonio's shooting, depth, and defensive presence overwhelmed a 76ers squad that struggled to find any rhythm or identity throughout the night. San Antonio Spurs light it up as Philadelphia Sixers fall apart on both ends The San Antonio Spurs' offense was nothing short of electric. They shot an impressive 56.5% from the field, going 39-for-69, and buried the 76ers from deep, connecting on 19-of-37 three-point attempts for a scorching 51.4% clip. At the free-throw line, they stayed solid, hitting 14-of-20 for 70%. The man leading the charge was David Jones Garcia, who delivered a monster outing with 24 points on 75% shooting, including a blistering 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. In just 18 minutes, he also tallied 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals, putting together one of the best all-around stat lines of the Summer League so far. The Sixers managed just 37.3% shooting from the field and made only 7 of their 22 three-point attempts (31.8%).
