Mandy Moore fires back after hit-and-run driver barrels into family: ‘Hope your karma finds you'

Mandy Moore is calling out the hit-and-run driver who sped off after hitting her family. 'The woman who rear ended my family and then drove off as we pulled over, hope your karma finds you,' the A Walk To Remember star wrote on her Instagram Stories over the weekend. 'Thankfully everyone was OK but what kind of human does that?' Moore, 41, continued. The singer, who is married to Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith, didn't reveal any more details about the accident. She and Goldsmith share three children together: sons August, 4, and Oscar, 2, and daughter Louise, 10 months. A rep for Moore did not immediately respond to Page Six's request for comment. The This is Us star has become known as a fierce defender of her family over the years. In January, she clapped back at social media users who criticised her for sharing a GoFundMe campaign aimed at helping her in-laws recover from the Los Angeles fires. After noticing the swift backlash from fans, who said the actress could help her family with her large net worth, Moore responded to the criticism with an updated caption. 'And people questioning whether we're helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic. Of course we are,' she wrote. 'We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. no one is forcing you to do anything.' She's even gone so far as to slam an Amazon driver who delivered a package to her recently torched in-laws' home after it was destroyed by the Los Angeles wildfires. 'Can we not have better discretion than to leave a package at a residence that no longer exists? This is my mother and father in law's home. Smh,' the Tangled star wrote in February, alongside a photo showing the remains of the house with a package sitting in front of the ruins.

How to Maintain Your Boho Braids

Always ask your braider what hair they'd like you to buy before confirming your appointment. If in doubt, book in with a professional braiding salon, which will give you the option of having high-quality hair included within the fee. Patience is key To keep your tresses neat and intact, set aside time in your daily routine for aftercare. 'Be gentle when brushing your hair and ensure that you focus on each braid—rushing can cause the hair to knot and tangle further,' Dawes says. A little extra effort is more than worth it for the results, though. 'The styling options are endless, and boho braids are so easy to manage, once you have the hang of it.' Don't skimp on the sleep prep 'A stringent night routine is crucially important,' Mensah says. 'Grab some of the Manketti Oil Pomade, emulsify the product in your hand and apply it to your boho braids. Next, gently brush it through each of the strands.' As a final step, part your hair into two to four sections and braid or twist each one, before wrapping it all up into a silk scarf or bonnet. Bigger isn't always better Opting for boho braids that have fewer curls might be the ticket to tangle-free hair. 'As a rule of thumb, the more curly hair that you use, the more difficult the aftercare will be,' Baiden points out. 'You may find that you have to treat full boho braids with water and a leave-in conditioner twice a day, for example.' This is obviously incompatible with a busy lifestyle. Baiden explains that braids without loose ends last much longer than pick-and-drop styles, so minimising the amount of free-hanging hair is important. Be wary of bright colors 'Color is much harder to maintain,' explains Dawes. 'Hair that has been bleached and treated with dye is more susceptible to damage caused by the elements.' This includes breakage caused by hot and cold temperatures, as well as a lack of moisture. Be picky with your products The boho braid tool kit is pretty set in stone. All three experts agree that you need a comb and a bristle brush in your arsenal as a starting point, as well as a hydrating shampoo and conditioner, and a leave-in conditioning spray. A special pro tip is to mix a little leave-in conditioner with lukewarm water and a few drops of oil. You can apply this during the day for a refreshing top-up, and it will also leave your hair looking glossy and shiny, but not greasy. An SOS detangling guide If you've stumbled across this guide and your hair is already looking tangled beyond repair, the experts have a few tips.

Thorganby crash: Plane was performing aerobatics moments before fatal smash

A light aircraft which crashed in a field - killing two young men - was performing aerobatics moments before the disaster, investigators said yesterday. Pilot Matthew Bird, 21, and 24-year-old passenger Oliver Dawes died after the two-seater Cessna FRA150L aircraft careered into a field near Thorganby, North Yorkshire. Both families said they were "utterly heartbroken" following the tragedies, which are now being investigated by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB). And yesterday, the AAIB confirmed the plane had been "performing aerobatic manoeuvres north of Breighton Airfield" before the crash. The new report continued the aircraft "entered a steep descent and struck the ground in a field near Thorganby" fatally injuring the pilot and passenger. "The investigation is ongoing, and the final report will be published in due course," the statement added. It was released on the one-year anniversary of the crash, which happened at around 9.50am on Sunday July 28, 2024. Major update in Air India crash probe references key issue thought to be its cause Breighton Airfield, a private aerodrome primarily used for general aviation flying, is located on a former Royal Air Force station built in the early 1940s. Five people were injured in a helicopter crash, just inside East Yorkshire, at the airfield on July 17, 2016. And following last year's fatalities, there was a huge outpour of grief shown towards Mr Bird, from Burley in Wharfedale, West Yorkshire, and Mr Dawes, of Spofforth, North Yorkshire. Their families issued statements to the media via North Yorkshire Police in the days after the collision. Mr Bird's family said he 'meant so much to so many', adding: 'We are utterly heartbroken but he will live on in our hearts as we cherish the incredibly special memories he's left us with.' Mr Dawes was described by his family as a 'dearly loved son, cousin, nephew and friend'. The statement added: "Oliver will continue to live on in our hearts and memories as the kind, generous, hardworking and fun man he had become. We will miss him every day for the rest of our lives, we are heartbroken." The full report into the crash will be published later this year, it is thought.

Britain starts online checks to stop children accessing harmful content

Find out what's new on ST website and app. Around 6,000 pornography sites have agreed to implement the curbs. LONDON - Britain's new age verification measures to prevent children accessing harmful online content came into force on July 25, with campaigners hailing them a 'milestone' in their years-long battle for stronger regulations. Under the new rules, to be enforced by Britain's media watchdog, websites and apps hosting potentially harmful content will be held responsible for age checks using measures such as facial imagery and credit cards. Around 6,000 pornography sites have agreed to implement the curbs, according to Ms Melanie Dawes, chief executive of British regulator Ofcom. Other platforms such as X, which is facing a dispute over similar restrictions in Ireland, must also protect children from illegal pornographic, hateful and violent content, she noted. 'We've done the work that no other regulator has done,' Ms Dawes told BBC Radio. 'These systems can work. We've researched that,' she said. Around 500,000 youngsters aged eight to 14 encountered pornography online last month, according to Ofcom. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. It imposes legal responsibilities on tech companies to better safeguard children and adults online and mandates sanctions for those who fall short. Rule-breakers face fines of up to £18 million or 10 per cent of their worldwide revenue, 'whichever is greater', according to the government. Criminal action can also be taken against senior managers who fail to ensure companies follow Ofcom information requests. The measures are coming into force now after the sector and the regulator were given time to prepare. Children will 'experience a different internet for the first time,' technology secretary Peter Kyle told Sky News, adding he had 'very high expectations' for the changes. In an interview with parenting forum Mumsnet, he also said sorry to youngsters who had been exposed to harmful content. 'I want to apologise to any kid who's over 13 who has not had any of these protections,' Mr Kyle said. Ms Rani Govender, of the child protection charity NSPCC, said it was 'a really important milestone that we're finally seeing tech companies having to take responsibility for making their services safe for children'. Children are frequently 'stumbling across this harmful and dangerous content,' she told BBC News. 'There will be loopholes,' Govender noted, insisting it was still 'right that we're introducing much stronger rules to make sure that that can't continue to happen'. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government is also considering introducing a daily two-hour limit for children on social media apps. Mr Kyle said he would announce more plans for regulating the sector for under-16s 'in the near future'. AFP

Gunman convicted of murdering young man near Damilola Taylor Centre

A gunman has been found guilty of fatally shooting a young man in the head in an alleyway near the Damilola Taylor Centre. Jesse Lloyd-Smith, 20, was found by his mother fatally injured yards from their home in Peckham, south-east London, on July 10 2024. The killer, 19-year-old Gabriel Charles, travelled to the scene in an Ford S-Max car which was burnt out days later. The defendant, who fled the country after the shooting, had denied being present at the scene of the killing. On Thursday, a jury at the Old Bailey found Charles, from Southwark, south London, guilty of murder. Co-defendant Kywan JN Pierre, 18, from Selhurst, south London, was cleared of murder but convicted of plotting to pervert the course of justice. Five others were found guilty of helping dispose of evidence as the killer sought to evade justice. Previously, the court had heard how the silver-coloured Ford S-Max had driven slowly towards the alleyway at around 4.50pm last July 10. Prosecutor James Dawes KC had said: 'The S-Max passed the Damilola Taylor centre, turned the corner and stopped.' The gunman got out of the S-Max and ran towards the victim, firing at least five shots as he went, jurors had heard. Mr Dawes had said: 'Some of the shots hit Jesse knocking him to the ground. The gunman ran back to the car which drove away.' The victim's mother, Ty Lloyd-Smith, was in her flat only yards away and heard the noise of shots. Mr Dawes said: 'She saw the shooter but what she could not see was her son because he was in the alleyway. She feared the worst and she shouted out Jesse's name.' She ran downstairs to find her son lying on the ground, shot in the head, jurors heard. His friend, Jamie Burgess, was frantically trying to help him and told police a person called 'S' was involved. The victim was taken to hospital for emergency surgery but he died the next day. A search of the scene, with dogs, led to the recovery of four spent cartridges and two unfired bullets all from a 9mm automatic pistol. The shooting was partly captured on CCTV footage although it was from some distance away, Mr Dawes said. Ben Nguyen, 20, of no fixed address; Enver Francis, 22, from Southwark; Abdoul Guene, 18, from Peckham; Kadjo Kadio, 21, from Dartford; and a 17-year-old youth, who cannot be identified, were found guilty of conspiring to pervert the course of justice by removing the Ford S-Max car and destroying it by fire two days later. Kadio, who voluntarily absented himself from the trial, and Nguyen were convicted of assisting an offender.
