The Georgia Bulldogs were successful in recruiting the No. 1 quarterback, Jared Curtis, from the Class of 2026 this May. He had committed to UGA back in March 2024 but reopened his recruitment later in October. During a big recruiting weekend for Georgia, he sent a strong message to his fellow prospects. "Everyone at Georgia this weekend for the OV… make the right choice! Go dawgs 🐶🐶" he posted on X Hailing from the Nashville Christian High School, Curtis led the school to a 12-1 record and a Tennessee Division II-A state championship, the school's first in nine years. He completed 179 of 255 passes for 2,830 yards with 40 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Curtis also showcased dual-threat capability, carrying the ball 88 times for 637 yards and 18 touchdowns. Wide Receiver Craig Dandridge, EDGE Khamari Brooks, cornerback Justice Fitzpatrick, tight end Kaiden Prothro, defensive linebacker Carter Luckie, wide receiver Cederian Morgan and defensive back Kaelan Jones. On Wednesday, UGA added five-star running back Ezavier Crowell and linebacker Izayia Williams. In the four-star group, wide receiver Brandon Bennett, defensive linebacker James Johnson, defensive back Jordan Smith and cornerback Peyton Dyer will be present. First, five-star Jackson Cantwell, who was leaning toward UGA and had a strong relationship with Curtis, chose Mario Cristobal–led Miami at the last minute. Midland ISD announces name, mascot for new middle schools
May 21—MIDLAND — Midland ISD is excited to announce the names and mascots for two new middle schools opening as part of the 2023 Bond Program: John "Randy" Storie Middle School and Midland Middle School. These names reflect deep community input and honor the rich history and legacy of education in Midland. The name Midland Middle School was selected for the campus currently housing Midland Freshman High School, located on Gist Avenue. The mascot will be the "Dawgs," a nod to the "Bulldog" tradition at Midland High School. This name maintains continuity as students transition to Midland High School. The school's colors will remain aligned with those of Midland High School, supporting unity and tradition across campuses. "The committee selected Midland Middle School to ensure a seamless transition for students moving on to Midland High School, while honoring the history of the current Midland Freshman building," said Cyndi Pyles, Executive Director of School Leadership. The campus located on Neely Avenue — currently home to Legacy High School — will be renamed John "Randy" Storie Middle School, with the mascot "Buffalo," a news release said. The name honors the late Randy Storie, a beloved and influential band director who served at Lee High School for over 30 years. Under his leadership, the Lee Band achieved national acclaim, including performances at the Tournament of Roses Parade, Carnegie Hall, and three Presidential Inaugural Parades. The Buffalo mascot symbolizes strength, resilience, and unity — attributes Storie exemplified and instilled in his students. It also serves as a meaningful tribute to his alma mater, West Texas A&M University, whose mascot is the Buffalo. "The buffalo mascot symbolizes resilience and reflects the determination we strive to instill in our students," Pyles said in the release. "It also pays tribute to the legacy of Randy Storie; a proud graduate of West Texas A&M University and former Lee High School Band Director." The naming process for both schools followed district policy and emphasized transparency and community engagement. Survey results, committee discussions, and input throughout the district played a critical role in the final recommendations. The names were approved by the Board of Trustees at the May regular board meeting. 5-star Georgia commit shares confident message ahead of Jackson Cantwell decision Georgia Bulldogs five-star quarterback commitment Jared Curtis has played the role of recruiter following his commitment to the Dawgs. He's looking to help Georgia secure a commitment from five-star offensive tackle recruit Jackson Cantwell, who is the No. 1 recruit in the county. Cantwell is the only recruit in the nation ranked higher than Georgia's Jared Curtis. Curtis came down to Athens, Georgia, over the weekend to help head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs recruit Cantwell, who took one final visit to Georgia before his May 13 (3:45 p.m. ET) commitment. "Let's get it done Jackson Cantwell!!" said Curtis via social media after his visit to Athens. "Go Dawgs!" Cantwell is predicted to commit to Georgia over Oregon, Ohio State and Miami. It would be sweet for Georgia fans to pair the nation's top two recruits together. Georgia has the nation's No. 10 recruiting class with nine total commitments. Adding Cantwell to the mix would help Georgia further raise its recruiting ranking. Cantwell is a five-star offensive lineman from Nixa High School in Nixa, Missouri. He comes from a very athletic family and has an excellent combination of size and strength. The 6-foot-8, 300-pound offensive tackle could be protecting Jared Curtis' blindside for years to come if things go according to plan for Georgia.

Georgia is beginning to pick up steam on the recruiting trail. After landing five-star QB Jared Curtis to kick off the month, the Dawgs are at it again. This time, with an in-state blue-chipper. Four-star safety Jordan Smith committed to Georgia on Mother's Day. Advertisement The Dawgs had been in pole position for weeks leading into his reveal. "Being from Georgia, I'll be honest, it's different growing up. Georgia is all you hear about," Smith started. "I've gotten to talk with some of the new guys on the team since they've rolled in, some of the commits -- and it's different from where they came from before. I'm interested in that." No team had been pushing harder than the Dawgs, who beat Tennessee, Florida State, and Georgia Tech for the top-10 SAF in the country out of South Georgia. "They hit me up all the time -- the entire coach staff, Coach T-Rob," Smith said. "They always keep up with me."
