Footage of plane wreckage falsely linked to India-Pakistan crisis
"Funeral of Indian fighter jet held in Pakistan. Pakistani people are putting out the fire with sand," reads the Bengali-language caption of a Facebook video posted on May 7, 2025. The video shows the burning wreckage of a crashed fighter jet, with some individuals speaking in Punjabi trying to put out the flames by throwing sand and dirt on it. It was shared as India and Pakistan engaged in four days of intense fighting in the worst violence between the nuclear-armed neighbours in decades. More than 70 people on both sides were killed in the jet fighter, missile, drone and heavy artillery attacks which came to a halt on May 10 after the announcement of a ceasefire (archived link). The conflict was sparked by an attack on tourists by gunmen in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22 that New Delhi accused Islamabad of backing -- a charge Pakistan denies. The video was also shared alongside similar posts on Facebook and Instagram. The footage, however, does not show a crashed Indian jet during the latest conflict. A reverse image search on Google using keyframes from the falsely shared video led to the same footage posted on Instagram by online news outlet eTimes Pakistan on April 16 (archived link). "A Pakistan Air Force Jet has crashed near Vehari City," reads its caption, referring to a city in Pakistan's Punjab province. Pakistan news outlet Dawn used a still from the video in its report about the crash on April 16 (archived link). According to the Dawn report, the aircraft "was on a training flight but crashed due to some technical fault". AFP previously debunked similar posts that misrepresented visuals from the same crash here, and has debunked other false claims related to the latest India-Pakistan conflict here.

Dilip Kumar wrote his own dialogues, reveals Mumtaz: ‘He wouldn't say dialogues written by anyone else, wrote his own'
Veteran actor Mumtaz starred in several hit films with Dara Singh at the beginning of her career and was often tagged as a 'B-grade actor' by many in the Hindi film industry. While all the A-list actors refused to work with her because of this label, Dilip Kumar came to her rescue and decided to cast her in his 1969 film Ram Aur Shyam. In a recent interview, Mumtaz expressed her gratitude for the actor while she revealed that Dilip Kumar would write his own dialogues, and never said the dialogues that were writtenf or him. During a conversation with Radio Nasha, Mumtaz recalled how Mehmood introduced her to Dilip Kumar and showed him her reel, asking him to cast her in Ram Aur Shyam. She said, 'Dilip Kumar looked at the reel and said, 'She is beautiful and she dances well. I will do the film with her.' I'm very thankful to him. When he agreed to do the film with me that's why I could become an actor. If he would have said 'no', I couldn't have become an actor.' Mumtaz added that because the then-superstar agreed to star in a film with her, other actors followed suit. 'When he agreed to do the film with me, nobody else refused. Everybody worked with me after that,' she said. Mumtaz also shared an interesting fact about Dilip Kumar and how the late legendary star would write his own dialogues. She recalled, 'Dilip Kumar was very down-to-earth. He would write his own dialogues, he wouldn't say dialogues written by anyone else. Unless the director emphasised, he wouldn't say anything written by anyone else.' Mumtaz did not specify if this was Dilip's style of working across all his films, or just for Ram Aur Shyam. Dilip Kumar famously chose Ram Aur Shyam after he was told by a psychologist to choose lighter subjects. After working in Devdas, Dilip's mental health suffered a bit so he chose a comedy that allowed him to take a break from serious roles. ALSO READ | Mumtaz breaks down as she remembers Shammi Kapoor's last days: 'He said he doesn't have long to live and…' In an earlier interaction with Dawn News, Mumtaz had spoken about why she wasn't choosy with her roles at the beginning of her career. 'I was given the label of a B-grade actor because I did a lot of small roles. I also did comedy with Mehboob sahab. I just closed my eyes and did work. I thought the rest is in god's hands. My start in the film industry was wrong. I won't blame the heroes for not working with me because everybody wants to climb the ladder of success. But Mehboob sahab showed one of my scenes to Dilip Kumar sahab and asked him if he would work with me in Ram Aur Shyam. He told him that the girl was nice and he agreed. Dilip sahab was a very down-to-earth person,' she had said.

Responding to a question about the possibility of a third-country venue, particularly in light of earlier mediation offers such as that from US President Donald Trump , Sharif said China was not a viable option as India would object to that, reported Dawn. Pakistan and India extend ceasefire Islamabad
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry has called for a composite dialogue to resolve tensions with its neighbor Pakistan and India have agreed to extend their ceasefire until May 18, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Thursday. In a statement to the Pakistani parliament, Dar said a military-to-military conversation took place between the two countries, where they decided to extend the ceasefire, according to Dawn News. Dar said Pakistan did not ask for a ceasefire with India but added that Islamabad sought a "composite dialogue" with New Delhi to put all contentious matters to rest. While there has been no official statement from the Indian side about the extension of the ceasefire, Indian media outlet News18 cited sources as confirming it would continue until May 18. The Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of both countries will hold talks soon, the sources told the media outlet. "Further to the understanding between the two DGMOs on May 10, 2025, it has been decided to continue the confidence-building measures so as to reduce the alertness level," the Indian Army said in a statement on Thursday. Theceasefirewas reached on May 10 after four days of intense cross-border strikes that took place in the wake of a deadly terrorist attack in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which India blamed on Pakistan. "The current ceasefire means that India has kept Pakistan on probation on the basis of its behavior," Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Friday. "If the behavior improves, it is fine; but if there is any disturbance, harshest punishment will be given," he added. A day earlier, Singh said Pakistan'snuclear weaponsshould be taken under the watch of the IAEA. "Are nuclear weapons safe in the hands of such an irresponsible and rogue nation,?" he asked. (
