Tom Cruise fans go wild as Top Gun 3 gets major update
Tom Cruise fans went wild on Monday over some big news about Top Gun 3. The actor's Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie, who had a writing credit on Top Gun: Maverick, said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that Top Gun 3 is far along. 'It's already in the bag. I already know what it is. It wasn't hard,' said the director. 'I thought it would be, and that's a good place to walk from.' He added, 'You walk into the room going, "Come on, what are we going to do?" and Ehren Kruger [Top Gun: Maverick co-writer] pitched something, and we had one conversation about it. The framework is there, so it's not hard to crack [it].' McQuarrie also said that he does not know who will direct the film. Earlier this month Cruise made it seem as if TP3 was far off. He revealed he and the Top Gun: Maverick team are 'thinking and talking about many different stories' for the sequel. The 62-year-old actor is set to reprise his role as pilot Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in the upcoming follow-up to the 2022 blockbuster, and has now shared he and the creative team are currently exploring different avenues of where to take the Top Gun story next. During an appearance on the Australian 'Today' show, Cruise said: 'Yeah, we're thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what's possible. 'It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick so all of these things we're working on, we're discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick.' The star added he was working on 'numerous other films' at the moment, including Alejandro Iñárritu's first English language movie since 2015's The Revenant, and other projects with McQuarrie. He said: 'There's numerous other films that we're actively working on right now. I'm always shooting a film, prepping a film, posting a film. 'I just finished a film with Alejandro Iñárritu too, who did The Revenant, that was an extraordinary experience and McQuarrie and I are always working on several different films.' Top Gun: Maverick - which is the legacy sequel to 1986's Top Gun - followed Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell (Cruise) as he trained the next generation of TOPGUN pilots, including Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw (Miles Teller) Jake 'Hangman' Seresin (Glen Powell) and Robert 'Bob' Floyd (Lewis Pullman). As well as introducing a host of new characters, Top Gun: Maverick reunited Cruise's 'Maverick' with Tom 'Iceman' Kazansky, as portrayed by the late Val Kilmer - who passed away last month at the age of 65 from complications related to pneumonia following a long period of ill health - which Cruise described as a 'very special' moment. Speaking with Sight and Sound magazine, the Jack Reacher star said: 'To come back all those years later, and it was amazing being on set for 'Top Gun: Maverick' because it was like time had not passed. We were laughing and it was joyous. 'And then we started acting and it's just, you see it … he became 'Iceman'. The power that this guy has, even not saying anything, to become that character. You see how even the sniff that he gave. He was 'Iceman'. 'And you saw the dynamic between these friends. It was very special, to say the least, for me personally. 'I just tell people … you take Iceman from the first film and you look at it here, that whole journey, he became 'Iceman'. And he didn't even have to speak. 'That's what he's able to do. Beautiful, really beautiful. A gift that he had and that he shared with all of us.' Also last week Cruise said he is 'never going to slow down'. The actor has enjoyed a hugely successful career in the film business, and Tom doesn't have any intention of taking a break. He told The Hollywood Reporter: 'I'm going to make them into my 100s. I will never stop. I will never stop doing action, I will never stop doing drama, comedy films — I'm excited.' Tom has starred in the Mission: Impossible film franchise since 1996, and remains passionate about making movies. Recalling his 'exceptional' experience of making the films, Tom said: 'There's been so many levels of reward with the filmmakers that I've collaborated with, the crews, the people, the cultures that we've worked in. 'Everything that I've learned and continue to learn about storytelling, about life, about leadership, about character and every aspect of filmmaking. 'It's been exceptional, it really is exceptional. I feel very fortunate to be able to make the films that I make, and I love it, I just love making movies.' Tom has filmed countless stunts for the Mission: Impossible franchise, and he's developed a series of 'pre-stunt rituals' in a bid to 'keep [him] alive'. He shared: 'There's a lot of pre-stunt rituals that keep me alive - it depends on what I'm doing and the amount of preparation I have to do. 'A lot of thought goes into it, and they are very complex and very interesting.' This comes as his Mission costar Hayley Atwell insisted that he remains as ambitious as ever. The brunette told People: 'There is that sense of the emotional end of something that feels like a very emotional closure. And yet, Tom Cruise is never going to slow down. He won't ever stop. This is who he is.' Angela Bassett, who also stars in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, suggested that Tom could revive the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise one day. The 66-year-old actress said: 'With Mr. Cruise, you can never count him down or out. He's always up for an amazing adventure and to give the audience exactly what they're craving. I would never assume.'

Tom Cruise ‘Working on' Potential Sequels for ‘Top Gun' and ‘Days of Thunder'
Tom Cruise may be 62 years old, but he has a motor capable of holding its own with anyone in the film industry. Not only does he continue to do all of his own stunts, but based on early clips from the upcoming Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning movie, he's somehow managed to make them even crazier. While many believe this movie will be Cruise's final act in the Mission: Impossible franchise, the question becomes, what's next for him? Not surprisingly, Cruise is already two steps ahead on that front. During an interview with the Australian show Today, he was asked whether Top Gun 3 was "on the horizon," as revealed. Cruise confirmed he's "working on" a Top Gun sequel and revealed there's also much more being kicked around. Specifically, Cruise referenced a sequel to the 1990 racing film Days of Thunder, putting it in the same current phase as Top Gun. 'Yeah, we're thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what's possible,' said Cruise. 'It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick, so all of these things we're working on, we're discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick." Cruise added that multiple other films are also being worked on, sparking plenty of intrigue about what fans could see Cruise in next. "There's numerous other films that we're actively working on right now. I'm always shooting a film, prepping a film, posting a film," Cruise explained. "I just finished a film with Alejandro Iñárritu too, who did The Revenant, that was an extraordinary experience and [Christopher McQuarrie] and I are always working on several different films.' It sounds as though there are several next steps Cruise could consider. Regardless, his update on Top Gun should give fans reason for optimism.

Tom Cruise is working on a long-awaited sequel to a 90's cult classic
Tom Cruise is working on a long-awaited sequel to a 90's cult classic As the Mission: Impossible franchise prepares to unleash the Final Reckoning of Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt this week, the 62-year-old actor is already hard at work on his next few projects — and they include more revivals of beloved films. There was never a doubt we'd get another Top Gun film after 2022's Top Gun: Maverick became such a massive sensation, but Cruise made some waves this week by admitting he's working on ideas for another long-awaited sequel to the cult racing classic Days Of Thunder. The 1990 film about fictional NASCAR driver Cole Trickle was another collaboration between the Top Gun director-producer pairing of Tony Scott and Jerry Bruckheimer that saw Cruise swap fighter jets for stock cars. Notably, Cruise's enthusiasm for racing hasn't faded in the decades since. 'Yeah, we're thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what's possible,' Cruise told Australia's Today per Deadline. 'It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick, so all of these things we're working on, we're discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick.' The movie star has often been spotted at F1 races tried moonlighting as a member of an F1 crew himself. Cruise's personal friendship with Lewis Hamilton gave him access to the Mercedes garage for some races while Red Bull let him take a spin in their car back in 2011. With Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski set to release his big budget F1 film in June, it makes sense Cruise would give Cole Trickle another look. We'll be ready to pop a few cans of Mello Yello if and when Days Of Thunder 2 is officially filming.

The 62-year-old Days Of Thunder star told the crowd: "She said, 'You've got to go over and say you love him.' "She doesn't usually do stuff like that and I don't walk up to people and introduce myself, but she was so pushy. "She said, 'If you don't, I'm going to.' "He had his hat on and was ordering takeout. "I stood next to him and said, 'Excuse me, Mr Hoffman, I'm sorry…' and he looked at me and said, 'Cruise!' "That's how I met him. The 1988 film became one of Cruise's breakthrough dramatic roles, with eight Academy Award nominations and four wins, including best picture and best actor for Hoffman. "I wanted to understand myself more and challenge myself more with different types of movies." The Mission Impossible star was appearing at BFI Southbank as part of a special event celebrating his career and marking the upcoming release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.

Tom Cruise praises ex-wife Nicole Kidman in rare comments as romance rumors with Ana de Armas heat up
Tom Cruise is fondly remembering an experience with ex-wife Nicole Kidman. Cruise, who was married to Kidman from 1990 to 2001, spoke to Sight and Sound magazine about his collaboration with legendary director Stanley Kubrick for 1999's "Eyes Wide Shut." In the erotic thriller, Cruise and Kidman co-star as a married couple, something Cruise now says was his idea. "It was a great experience," he told the outlet of making the movie, according to Deadline. "I was very excited to do it. I knew Stanley's movies very well, and I was introduced to him through ["The Firm" director] Sydney Pollack. So, Stanley called Sydney 'cause he wanted me to make a movie. He sent me a fax. "I flew out to his house, and I landed in his backyard. I read the script the day before, and we spent the day talking about it. I knew all of his films. I spoke to Scorsese about him and Sydney Pollack … so I knew what he did and how he worked. Then it was basically he and I getting to know each other. And when we were doing that, I suggested Nicole play the role [of Alice]. Because obviously she's a great actress." He called making the movie "a very unique experience" and recalled that when they arrived to film, "the script was just an idea. We [were] constantly rewriting the scenes and shooting the scenes and then reshooting the scenes to really find the tone of the film." Cruise and Kidman met while filming another movie together, "Days of Thunder," and they adopted two children together, Isabella and Connor, during their marriage. After Cruise filed for divorce in 2001, citing "irreconcilable differences," Kidman married country star Keith Urban in 2006. The two are still together and share two daughters. Cruise also remarried in 2006 to actress Katie Holmes. They welcomed one daughter, Suri, before divorcing in 2012. More recently, the actor has been linked romantically to "Knives Out" actress Ana de Armas. The two have been spotted together multiple times in recent months, including in London on de Armas' birthday April 30. In a photo and video captured by a bystander and shared on X, Cruise was seen wearing a white polo T-shirt with dark blue jeans while de Armas sported a light-colored T-shirt with jeans, white sneakers and a brown cross-body bag. The day before de Armas' birthday, Cruise and the Cuba native were photographed as they disembarked a helicopter flown by the "Mission Impossible" star. Two weeks earlier, the pair were spotted after another helicopter ride. On April 13, Cruise and de Armas exited the actor's helicopter in London that took off from Madrid, Spain. At the time, a source told People the pair were not romantically involved and were accompanied on the trip by director Doug Liman. The group is reportedly working on a new project, but no additional information was provided. Romance rumors began to swirl when de Armas and Cruise were photographed together for the first time the night before Valentine's Day in London.
