Former 76ers guard drawing interest from Golden State in free agency

While many of free agency's top names have already signed deals this summer, several notable players remain on the market. One of them — former Philadelphia 76ers guard De'Anthony Melton — could be headed back to the Golden State Warriors. According to Anthony Slater of ESPN, the Warriors are reportedly interested in bringing Melton back following an injury-shortened 2024-25 campaign. 'They're also looking for perimeter defense,' Slater said. 'There is mutual interest in a reunion with De'Anthony Melton, who played only six games for them last year before he tore an ACL. It was a really good fit — Steph Curry likes him.' Melton spent two years with the Sixers before joining the Warriors last season. In Philadelphia, he averaged 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals across 27.4 minutes per game in 115 regular-season appearances. He was later traded to the Brooklyn Nets in December as part of the Dennis Schroder trade. Now a free agent, Melton could return to Golden State, where he would likely earn meaningful playing time behind Curry and Brandin Podziemski. A strong perimeter defender and capable three-point shooter, Melton will likely have multiple suitors despite coming off the knee injury. Still, a reunion with the Warriors appears to be a logical fit. Over his seven-year NBA career, the former second-round pick has averaged 9.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 36.9 percent from three-point range in 22.4 minutes per game. Golden State Warriors remain short-handed after three weeks of NBA free agency

The Golden State Warriors only have nine players under contract heading into the 2025-26 NBA season. There's been no movement from the franchise during the opening three weeks of NBA free agency. Rumors linking the Warriors to Al Horford and a return for De'Anthony Melton are yet to materialize. Furthermore, Golden State's negotiations with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga appear to have reached a stalemate. As such, the Warriors are in a difficult spot as we approach the dead point in the summer. Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Joe Lacob will both understand the need to get the ball rolling on some potential additions to the roster. After all, Steve Kerr will want a full team ready for when tranining camp and preseason begins later this year. In a recent episode of ESPN's NBA Today, cap expert Bobby Marks explained the uphill battle the Warriors currently face, and why it's important for the franchise to start gaining traction on some roster additions in the coming weeks. NBA Free Agency Rumors: Golden State Warriors predicted to re-sign $12.8 million veteran guard to support Stephen Curry and improve Championship odds

Golden State Warriors at Chicago Bulls (Image via Imagn) The Golden State Warriors are most likely going to make a bold move during free agency. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the franchise is actively working behind the scenes and could be on the verge of landing two major targets — veteran forward Al Horford and 6'3' guard De'Anthony Melton . Marc Stein Confirms Golden State Warriors' Strong Interest In a recent appearance on the Willard & Dibs show, Stein shared a clear expectation regarding the Golden State Warriors ' plans: 'My expectation is that one way or the other, the Golden State Warriors are going to end up with both Horford and Melton on their roster. [And] they still have interest in Bradley Beal.' (H/t: Sporting News) That revelation is huge for Warriors fans who have been waiting for the front office to make a move in an already eventful NBA offseason. Stein, a respected source around the league, expressed strong confidence that Golden State is positioned to add serious value without making noise just yet. What De'Anthony Melton Brings to the Table While Al Horford 's name may dominate headlines due to his experience and leadership, the potential return of De'Anthony Melton could have a significant impact as well — both on and off the floor. Melton suited up for just six games with the Warriors last season before being sidelined due to injury. His ability to knock down open shots and defend multiple positions made him an ideal reserve guard for the Warriors, especially in a rotation that demands high IQ and effort. Why a Melton Reunion Makes Sense Golden State needs a steady two-way presence in the backcourt, especially one who already has experience in Steve Kerr's system. Reuniting with Melton would address several team needs: Key Benefits of Re-Signing De'Anthony Melton: - Perimeter Defense: Strong on-ball defender capable of guarding guards and wings. - Three-Point Shooting: Spaced the floor effectively during his short stint. - Team Chemistry: Reportedly bonded well with teammates and the coaching staff. - Locker Room Presence: Brought energy and positivity even off the court. The timing of a reunion also works in the Golden State Warriors' favor. With minimal movement so far in free agency, the team still has flexibility to fill roster gaps and add depth before training camp. Al Horford in the Mix for the Warriors? While De'Anthony Melton's return is generating excitement, Stein's comments also point to Al Horford as another potential addition. Horford, known for his leadership, defense, and playoff experience, could provide stability in the frontcourt — especially as the Golden State Warriors navigate an aging core and inconsistent interior production. Moreover, Stein mentioned that the Warriors still 'have interest in Bradley Beal,' suggesting that Golden State hasn't ruled out swinging big — whether via trade or future free agency maneuvering. However, that is unlikely to happen with Beal's latest acquisition by the Clippers . With summer league wrapping up and rosters beginning to take shape, the Golden State Warriors are expected to get more aggressive in the coming weeks. They may be late to the free agency party, but according to insiders like Marc Stein, they are anything but idle. Lakers reportedly have interest in Malcolm Brogdon

The Los Angeles Lakers aren't necessarily done making moves to finalize their roster for the 2025-26 NBA season. They could still use at least one 3-and-D player, as well as some more backcourt depth in order to give themselves a real shot at contending for the championship. For roughly the past week, there has been talk that they're expected to sign De'Anthony Melton, who is making his way back from an ACL injury he suffered early this past season. More recently, a report indicated that Bradley Beal, a three-time All-Star guard, may be interested in coming to the Lakers if he comes to an agreement with the Phoenix Suns on a buyout of his current contract. According to insider Jake Fischer, the Lakers also have interest in acquiring veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon from the Washington Wizards. "All of these scenarios, furthermore, are sure to have an impact on Brogdon," wrote Fischer. "League sources say that the Wizards are open to sign-and-trade discussions to facilitate Brogdon's exit from Washington and a slew of teams have registered varying levels of interest in the 32-year-old. That list includes the Clippers, Suns and Lakers as well as the Warriors, Timberwolves, Pelicans, Kings and Bucks." Brogdon has always been a capable scorer, facilitator and defender. But this past season, he posted just 12.7 points a game and shot 43.3% from the field and 28.6% from 3-point range, and those figures were well under his career marks of 15.3 points a game on 46.3% overall and 38.8% from downtown. He has been injury-prone and has appeared in a total of just 63 games over the past two seasons. But if he's healthy and spry, perhaps he could be a viable option for Los Angeles.

NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers Eye $12,822,000 Golden State Warriors Guard to Boost Backcourt and Improve LeBron Title Odds

LeBron James at the Playoffs against the Timberwolves (Image via Imagn). The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly considering a move for Golden State Warriors guard De'Anthony Melton this offseason. After a disappointing first-round playoff exit against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Lakers are looking to strengthen their roster, particularly their backcourt depth. Melton, a 27-year-old two-way player, could provide the defensive grit and outside shooting the Lakers need. Why De'Anthony Melton Fits the Los Angeles Lakers The Los Angeles Lakers struggled with depth in their playoff run, especially in the backcourt. De'Anthony Melton, a 6-foot-2 combo guard, brings experience, perimeter defense, and reliable three-point shooting—qualities that would complement stars LeBron James and Luka Doncic. LeBron James in Game 2 (Image via Imagn) Before suffering a season-ending ACL sprain, Melton showed promise in his short stint with the Warriors, averaging: - 10.3 points - 3.3 rebounds - 2.8 assists - 1.2 steals - 37.1% three-point shooting (on a career-high 5.8 attempts per game) Dean Simon of The Sporting News notes: "Melton could be utilized as a perfect backcourt partner for the slower-footed Doncic on the defensive end and a consistent catch-and-shoot threat on offense." Los Angeles Lakers vs Golden State Warriors: The Battle for De'Anthony Melton Golden State may try to re-sign De'Anthony Melton on a team-friendly deal to keep him alongside Stephen Curry . However, the Lakers could offer a more lucrative contract, potentially swaying the guard to join their championship pursuit. De'Anthony Melton's previous success as a Sixth Man of the Year candidate (2021-22 with the Memphis Grizzlies) makes him an attractive option for a Lakers team in need of reliable bench production. Key Reasons Los Angeles Lakers Should Pursue Melton - Elite Perimeter Defense – Helps contain opposing guards. - Reliable Three-Point Shooting – Addresses spacing issues. - Playoff Experience – Contributed to deep postseason runs with Memphis and Golden State. - Affordable Contract – Estimated at around $12 million per year. While center remains the Lakers' top priority, adding a guard like Melton would significantly improve their rotation. His ability to defend multiple positions and knock down open threes makes him an ideal fit alongside James and Doncic. If the Lakers can outbid the Warriors, Melton could become a key piece in their quest for another title.
