Dean Devlin Dishes on THE LIBRARIANS: THE NEXT CHAPTER's Magical Homecoming
Dean Devlin's career in film and TV is the stuff of geek dreams. On the big screen, he wrote the screenplay for 1992's Universal Soldier, co-wrote and co-produced the first Stargate film, and even played Milton in Real Genius , the movie anthem for all who fly their geek flag high. But it's his television credits that truly rev our engines. He helped create, write, and produce both the Leverage and The Librarians franchises, The Ark, The Visitor, and Almost Paradise (completing his Christian Kane triumvirate). RELATED: Read our recaps of The Librarians: The Next Chapter Geek Girl Authority had the pleasure of speaking with Dean Devlin via Zoom about his most recent production, The Librarians: The Next Chapter, the sequel series to The Librarians, which concluded in 2018 after four seasons and three films. In New York City for the fan screening event of the premiere at The Morgan Library and Museum, Dean Devlin shared some insights about the history, characters, and setting of the new series with us before jetting back to Belgrade, Serbia, to conclude filming on Season 2. Disclaimer: The following interview has been edited for clarity. Photo byfor TNT Dean Devlin, EP and Showrunner, The Librarians: The Next Chapter Diana Keng: What was your inspiration for bringing back The Librarians with The Librarians: The Next Chapter ? Dean Devlin: I've never wanted to not bring back The Librarians . The day it was canceled … the next morning, I was calling to see where else I could continue to tell the story. It's my happy place, making that show. A couple of years ago, I got a call from the CW. They had lost the rights to all of their DC comic properties, and they needed new franchises, and thought The Librarians could be a perfect show for CW. We started making the show for the CW. We were midway through the first season when I got a call from TNT saying, 'Is there any chance the franchise could come back home to TNT?' RELATED: Read our Leverage: Redemption recaps And that, to me, was music to my ears because we started there a little over 20 years ago. To bring the franchise home would be a dream come true. I said I didn't know if that's possible, but I contacted the people at CW. They were remarkably sympathetic to me wanting to bring the show home, and while it was a little bit of deal-making gymnastics, we figured it out. They couldn't have been more supportive. And TNT, when they started watching episodes, they were so excited about the show, they greenlit Season 2 before even airing Season 1. So it's been a remarkable homecoming for us. Shared DNA DK: Are there shared themes between your two sequel series — Leverage: Redemption and The Librarians: The Next Chapter ? DD: Oh, without a doubt. Both series share the DNA of found family. It's a theme I never grow tired of. I love to do shows about flawed characters who find a simpatico relationship with very different, flawed characters and create their own families. Maybe it's because I'm an only child and feel like my family was something I created, but I love found family stories. I find there are so many roads to expositing character, of finding heart, and the feelings of healing. Both shows share that common theme. Bluey Robinson, Dean Devlin, Olivia Morris – Image Credit: Aleksandar Letic DK: Of the many mysterious backstories hinted at about the members of The Librarians: The Next Chapter , is there one that was your jumping-off point for the series? DD: I loved the painting. I love that the only thing left of the old Annex was this painting. We meet this character, [Lysa Pascal], and she looks exactly like the girl in the painting, and we don't know why. It's a fun mystery, but it's also a source of enormous heart for the series. That was probably my favorite. [No spoilers], but I can promise you that it's a surprising and fulfilling storyline that plays all the way through the season. Age of the Geek DK: Do you include geek characters like Bluey Robinson's Connor and Aldis Hodge's Hardison as representatives of yourself in your series? DD: Yeah, you write what you know! [laughs] Hardison in the original Leverage had this line, 'Age of the Geek.' And it's really true! When I was a child, the geeks were the outcasts, and now the geeks run the planet. You gotta have that representation. RELATED: Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week: Leverage: Redemption 's Parker DK: What drives Connor to leave a career in academia behind to pursue his passion? DD: One of the things I love about that character is that he doesn't pout. When bad things happen to him, he always looks at them as an opportunity. So, when he got fired from his teaching position because he was teaching about the possibility that there was a place called The Library, rather than pouring himself into a drink at a bar, he went out, he found fans online who would go fund his adventures and he was determined to prove that what he believed about magic was true. That doesn't change with his character. He's a guy who always sees the glass half-full. Bluey Robinson – Photograph credit: Aleksandar Letic/TNT The Power of Place DK: Can you speak to the differences of shooting abroad in Serbia versus Portland? DD: Being in Belgrade, Serbia, has been really interesting because most people have a misidentification of what that's like and what that world is. Before we started shooting The Librarians: The Next Chapter, I flew all the writing staff to Serbia and, to a person, they were like, 'This was not what I was expecting.' By getting that, they were able to reach into a bag of tricks. To a real degree, by placing the show in Serbia, I might as well be placing it on another planet because for most people, it's a whole brand new world. RELATED: Find your own Magic Well with our On Location deep dive in the Belgrade Fortress, seen on The Librarians: The Next Chapter DK: Much of the filming of the Annex scenes is done around The Belgrade Fortress, is that correct? DD: The exteriors, yeah. The interior is this incredible set, maybe one of the most beautiful sets that I've ever had. Y'know, we're a season and a half into shooting — we just finished shooting Episode 6 of Season 2 — and we still haven't shot all the parts of that set yet. Image Courtesy of TNT DK: What about the well? Because the Belgrade Fortress has a 'Roman Well.' DD: So, that shot that you see is the actual Roman Well. And then the bottom of it — y'know when they crawl inside — we built that. New episodes of The Librarians: The Next Chapter air on TNT on Mondays at 9 pm ET. New TV Shows This Week (June 1 – 7) Diana lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada, where she invests her time and energy in teaching, writing, parenting, and indulging her love of all Trek and a myriad of other fandoms. She is a lifelong fan of smart sci-fi and fantasy media, an upstanding citizen of the United Federation of Planets, and a supporter of AFC Richmond 'til she dies. Her guilty pleasures include female-led procedurals, old-school sitcoms, and Bluey. She teaches, knits, and dreams big. You can also find her writing at The Televixen, Women at Warp, TV Fanatic, and TV Goodness.

THE LIBRARIANS: THE NEXT CHAPTER Series Premiere Recap: (S01E01) And the Deadly Drekavac
From the moment the news of The Librarians' cancellation was announced, showrunner Dean Devlin swore he'd find a way to bring it back. And here we are. It's 2025, and The Librarians: The Next Chapter hits the ground running with inadvertent time travel and fish-out-of-water awkwardness. Meet Vikram Chamberlain (Callum McGowan), The Librarian from 1847. Charming, clever, and capable, but a Librarian who plays by his own rules. Vikram, meet 2025. Thanks to a time bubble and current Librarian Jacob Stone's (Christian Kane) helping hand, Vikram arrives in the present day with no context, next to no understanding of the modern world, and a driving desire to return to his own time. Pictured: Christian Kane in The Librarians: The Next Chapter – Image Credit: Aleksandar Letic The Librarians: The Next Chapter, 'And The Deadly Drekavac' We begin in Belgrade, Serbia, in 1847. General Gregor (Adnan Haskovic) leads his army under the banner of Gregor's Hammer. Vikram rushes to his side. Four black-clad men with swords strapped to their sides stand together in front of a stone formation, hands raised high, with glowing blue magic emanating from them. Vikram asks Gregor if it's true his men have found the lost tomb of Attila the Hun. RELATED 5 Great Books About Libraries and Librarians Inside the tomb, the black-clad sorcerers stand in a ring around the sarcophagus and chant. Gregor directs Vikram to stand at his side as the sword on the sarcophagus's lid begins to glow. Vikram identifies it as the Sword of Mars, which gives its wielder the power of the Roman god of war. Gregor plans to use it to conquer all of Europe. Plans Change As Gregor prepares to take the sword, Vikram suddenly slams the sword back onto the lid. The sword instantly becomes one with the lid again. Gregor wonders why a librarian would defy him. Vikram explains that he is The Librarian, and his oath to The Library binds him to keep evil people from wielding powerful magical items like the Sword of Mars. Gregor doesn't see himself as evil. 'I simply want to bring peace… through an autocracy of fear and brutal intimidation,' he states, unironically. Vikram invokes the Scarab of Horus, creating a time bubble around them. He tells Gregor that his assistant will be pulling him out, leaving Gregor frozen in time forever. RELATED: Read our The Lazarus Project recaps Outside the bubble, an arrow kills the assistant before he can pull Gregor out of the bubble. Inside the bubble, Vikram kills time as the wait is longer than expected. Gregor uses the time to swear he'll find The Library, sack it, and use its magical items to rule the world. Just as Gregor strikes at him with his sword, Vikram is pulled out of the bubble. The bubble disappears with Gregor. Back in the tomb room, Vikram discovers his rescuer is Jacob Stone, not his assistant. Welcome to the Future Jacob introduces himself. They both introduce themselves as The Librarian. Awkward. Outside, in present-day Belgrade, Jacob follows Vikram through crowds of people. Vikram tells him to stop telling him about the world, as he must have no foreknowledge when he returns to his own time. Jacob somberly explains that there's no going back. As he explains how magic is no longer something Librarians can use on a regular basis, Vikram slips away. Jacob phones Jenkins (John Larroquette) and asks where Vikram's Library Annex was in 1847. RELATED: Read our Leverage: Redemption recaps Vikram rushes into the Belgrade Castle (watch for the On Location article this week on the IRL Belgrade Fortress!), now a museum open to the public. Out front, a woman hands out flyers for a concert. As he makes a beeline through a gift shop for his annex, he passes Lysa Pascal (Olivia Morris) telling Ms. Astolat (Caroline Loncq) that she doesn't want the castle. Ms. Astolat informs her that the fact is that she has inherited one. Lysa explains that she's fundraising a company to develop multi-dimensional predictive algorithms with quantum computing. Ms. Astolat is underwhelmed and directs Lysa to the basement to review the records. Collision Course As they proceed to the basement, Connor Green (Bluey Robinson) cuts through, recording a selfie video of himself for his Spectral Snoops podcast. He tells viewers they're about to prove the existence of The Library. Using a map he 'liberated' from the National Archives in London, he heads through an ancient-looking door. Vikram arrives in the basement first and finds nothing but a shrouded painting on an easel. He decides to use the magic of 'the well' to bring his annex back so he can access The Library. Pulling the cover off the painting, he vows, 'I will return to you, my love,' before rushing off. The woman in the painting looks exactly like Lysa. RELATED: TV Review: Leverage: Redemption Season 3 Meanwhile, Lysa and Ms. Astolat enter the basement from a different direction. Lysa's on the phone with a business partner, but she loses her cellular signal. In an adjacent passageway, Connor also loses his signal. Vikram runs to a viewing platform and looks down into the castle's well. Who Are You? When Lysa and Ms. Astolat arrive at the annex space, Lysa sees the portrait. She turns around to ask Ms. Astolat about it, but Ms. Astolat has disappeared. At the well's bottom, Vikram begins digging through the rocks on the ground. Back at the annex space, Connor finds Lysa looking at the portrait. At the well, Vikram lifts a heavy rock and releases a stream of blue light, aka magic. He laughs in triumph. Connor and Lysa hear the laugh and turn to see the stream of light swirling into the annex space, transforming it into Vikram's Annex. The Librarians: The Next Chapter – Image Credit: Aleksandar Letic Vikram arrives to see the Annex restored. Introducing himself dramatically as The Librarian, he snaps his fingers and all the candles and torches ignite. 'And this,' he states, 'is The Library.' Connor raises his arms in victory. Vikram approaches Lysa, startling her and causing her to back up into a table, knocking an object over. She tries to catch it and passes it to Connor when it burns her hand. It burns his hand as well. RELATED: A Leverage: Redemption Primer: Get Ready to Steal Season 3 When Vikram tells Lysa the Annex was revealed by magic, she refuses to believe it and leaves. Connor introduces himself and extends a hand to shake Vikram's. Vikram sees a wolf-like visage burned into Connor's hand. He realizes Connor touched the Stone of Kraljevic and rushes after Lysa. Finding her pacing outside, he confirms she also has a wolf burn on her hand. The Deadly Drekavac Vikram explains to Connor and Lysa that their touch summoned the spirit of the drekavac. They hear an inhuman screech. Vikram directs them to cover their ears because the drekavac infects its victims with its cry. The drekavac chases them back into the Annex, where Vikram barricades the door. Liquid seeps in under the door. Vikram tastes it and pronounces it tears. RELATED: Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week: Leverage: Redemption 's Parker When they try to escape through a second door, the sounds of a battle outside stop them. Jacob bursts in, his jacket vest shredded in multiple places. He berates Vikram for summoning a drekavac. Jacob states that the drekavac will keep hunting them until Lysa and Connor are dead. Vikram offers to deal with the drekavac while Jacob works on sealing off the magical stream. Jacob agrees and tells Vikram to take Lysa and Connor with him. New Rules Outside the castle, Vikram whips out a magical scrying glass to track the drekavac's tears. The trail takes them into the heart of modern Belgrade, emphasizing to Vikram how much has changed since his time. The Librarians: The Next Chapter – Image Credit: Aleksandar Letic After filling a container with holy water at the Church of St. Mark, they find the drekavac terrorizing shoppers near an outdoor cafe. They chase it into an alley, but the drekavac gets the jump on Vikram, who spills the holy water. When the drekavac smells Lysa and Connor nearby, it goes after them. However, before it can attack, a motorcyclist appears. After sliding the bike into the drekavak, the motorcyclist fights it, wounding it with a knife and scaring it off. RELATED: Read our Doctor Who recaps Removing the helmet, the motorcyclist introduces herself as Charlie (Jessica Green), Vikram's Guardian. She goes on to provide a lot of Vikram's backstory, verbally summarizing his file. She takes the scrying glass off him. As he and the others head off on the hunt, she checks in with Jacob. The Librarians: The Next Chapter – Image Credit: Aleksandar Letic On the ground outside the alley, Connor notices a pool of the drekavac's green blood next to one of red human blood. Vikram realizes the drakavac is possessing a human. Time for Research Returning to the Annex, the team researches the drekavac, the lost soul of an unbaptized child, abandoned and alone, alternating between grief and rage. It reproduces by infecting others with its scream when it reaches a terminal volume. They narrow the human host's identity down to the descendants of people suspected of being possessed by drekavacs. In 1862, a drekavac possessed Yakim Lynch. Lysa finds some Lynch descendants living in Belgrade using an ancestry website. The Librarians: The Next Chapter – Image Credit: Aleksandar Letic As they approach the address, they hear what could be cult chanting. Charlie and Vikram take the lead. On the door, they find the symbol for Gregor's Hammer. Vikram is horrified, fearing the Cult of Gregor's Hammer has survived to the modern day. However, all they find inside is a heavy metal band. RELATED: The Season 2 Rings of Power Trailer Breakdown: Entwives, Shelob, a Balrog, Annatar and More The woman who was handing out flyers in front of the castle is the band's manager, Danica (Lana Ujević). The band is called Gregor's Hammer after they found the logo at a museum in the city. They ask her about Lynch. She tells them that's the lead singer and he's gone ahead to the venue they're playing that night, The Skull and Steel. Heads Will Bang Back at the Church of St. Mark's, Connor and Lysa share their backstories as they refill Vikram's flask with holy water. Outside, Charlie warns Vikram that the greatest danger to him is him. At the Skull and Steel that night, Vikram's concerned that the amplification technology will help the drekavac infect any vulnerable audience member. Vikram plans to use Lysa and Connor as bait to lure the drekavac back into demon form. The Librarians: The Next Chapter – Image Credit: Aleksandar Letic Charlie and Vikram approach the lead singer, Winslow Lynch (Aleksa Samardžić), but when he sees Lysa and Connor, nothing happens. His bandmate comments that Winslow's sister is punking them. Realizing Winslow isn't the only Lynch descendant, they hear Danica screaming behind them and turn to find her transforming into the drekavac. The holy water has no effect. Charlie engages the drekavac and shouts for everyone to get in the van. She gets up, leaving the scrying glass on the ground where Winslow finds it. The drekavac jumps on the van's roof as they race away. RELATED: Revival : Check Out 9 First-Look Photos From Melanie Scrofano-Led Series The team ends up at the Roman Aqueduct Cave, detouring past an active underground waterfall. Vikram's new plan is to isolate and neutralize the drekavac. Lysa and Connor are concerned about Danica, who will also die. Puzzling It Out Left to hide, Lysa and Connor try to figure out why the holy water didn't work. They realize that modern-day holy water comes from the local dam, not the river, like in the 1800s. As Charlie and Vikram take on the drekavac, Lysa and Connor refill the flask with water from the aqueduct's waterfall. They splatter the drekavac with it. It paralyzes the drekavac. Lysa pleads for Danica's life. Vikram considers the drekavac, standing motionless, tears streaming down its face. He realizes that the original abandoned, unbaptized child believed the stories told about them and manifested the monstrous being they were told they were. To right the wrong, Vikram baptizes the drekavac, permitting it to end its sorrow because it isn't lost anymore. The drekavac falls over and departs from the band manager's body. Connor and Lysa's burns from the Stone of Kraljevic disappear. Try Not to Die Jacob arrives in the cave through a portable portal. They use it to return to the Annex. Jacob informs Vikram that he's been recalled to the Main Library to live out his days. He tells Connor and Lysa to return to their lives. Jacob will stay behind to correct the problems Vikram started by opening the well. RELATED: Revival : The Dead Have Rejoined the Living in Official Trailer Vikram refuses to leave Jacob to clean up his mess. Charlie insists on staying too. Jacob gives them six months to set things right and leaves. Charlie takes Connor to gather his things. Lysa's looking at Anya's portrait when Vikram comes over and thanks her for reminding him that empathy is the greatest tool a Librarian has. She asks about the painting, but he lies, claiming it's just a coincidence. Outside, Lysa stops before getting into her cab when she sees Connor confront Charlie and Vikram, insisting they make him part of the team. She tells her partner on the phone to tell the investors she's made a discovery that will change everything. She hangs up and joins the others. As they head off to deal with some reanimated mummies, they pass a poster for a new exhibition titled 'Anya, Gregor's Fiancée,' in the display case. Epilogue At Gregor's Hammer band hangout, Winslow examines everything and everyone with the scrying glass. Looking closely at a print of Gregor's portrait, the scrying glass opens a portal into Gregor's time bubble. Winslow recognizes Gregor. Gregor sees his hammer logo on the band's drum kit and begins to laugh maniacally. Prime Video axes 10 shows - was yours on the list?
By Prime Video has axed ten shows in a devastating blow to fans - but did your favourite survive the cull? The streaming platform is the home to many avid telly watchers' much-loved films and series. However, some firm favourites are set to be cancelled after several seasons, and others after just one. Harlem, Clean Slate and The Summer I Turned Pretty are all well-watched and have raving reviews online. Despite this, they will not see another season on Prime Video. Read on below to find out which ten shows are being axed from the site. Almost Paradise The comedy drama lasted two seasons and delved into the story of drug enforcement officer Alex Walker (Christian Kane) who takes an early retirement and moves to live nearby a beach. However, he soon realises the area is full of resorts housing 'the rich and famous criminals of the world,' according to the synopsis. Both seasons of the action series, directed by Dean Devlin, consist of ten episodes each. Since Amazon Freevee, which the show was based on, has been cancelled, Almost Paradise is set to be cut too. Fans may be in luck, however, as producer Dean has reportedly shared he is 'looking for a new home' for the show. TV fans will be heartbroken to realise that beloved comedy series Harlem has been brutally axed - despite its incredible 98% Rotten Tomatoes score . Harlem, created by Tracy Oliver, hit Amazon Prime Video back in December 2021. The drama returned for a second series in February 2023 and later that year it was revealed that there would be a third. The third installment premiered back in January but was unfortunately the last one. Vernon Sanders, who is head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, said: 'As we prepare to say goodbye to this incredible series, we're both grateful for the journey Tracy has taken us on and excited for our global customers to experience a final season that truly honors these characters.' Executive producer Tracy added: 'It's been an incredible journey and I'm honoured to see the impact it's made in the culture, as well as the impact it's had on all of us who've been blessed to work on it.' The Summer I Turned Pretty Based on Jenny Han's trilogy, the hit teen drama is set to come to an end after the third series airs later this year in July. The Summer I Turned Pretty is centred on Isabel 'Belly' Conklin, a teenage girl who ends up in a love triangle with a pair of brothers. It stars talent such as Lola Tung, Gavin Casalegno and Christopher Briney. Amazon and MGM Studios' head of television, Vernon Sanders, previously issued a statement to elaborate on the success of the coming-of-age series. 'We've been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty, making Summer Fridays an entertainment phenomenon,' he said. 'This charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. 'Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamouring for the third chapter of this story,' he stated. Clean Slate The Pradeeps Of Pittsburgh Since premiering in 2024, the comedy has received positive ratings and boasts a strong 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes but is facing the axe due to the Freevee shutdown. The Pradeeps Of Pittsbrugh follows an Indian family who try to prove they are innocent to government agents and recall their 'initial life in America after moving from India'. Taking the viewer on a tale of humorous and heartfelt tales, each family member recounts things differently. Naveen Andrews, Sindhu Vee, Sahana Srinivasan, Arjun Sriram and AShwin Sakthivel star amongst others. The Sticky Hit comedy series The Sticky has also been brutally axed despite its glowing reviews. The TV show, created by Brian Donovan and Ed Herro, hit our screens in December last year. The Sticky is loosely based on the story of the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist, which took place between 2011 and 2012. Unfortunately it has been confirmed that it won't be back for a second series. Deadline has reported that the programme 'could not break through and draw wide enough audience despite solid reviews'. The Sticky was released on Amazon Prime Video on December 6 and saw six episodes in the first season, starring the likes of Margo Martindale, Chris Diamantopoulos, Guillaume Cyr, Guy Nadon and Mickaël Gouin. They were joined by Suzanne Clément, Mark O'Brien, Meegwun Fairbrother and Jamie Lee Curtis on our screens. Cruel Intentions The Amazon Prime Video series Cruel Intentions also faced the boot after just one season. The show, a spinoff of the 1999 film starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon , hit the streamer last November. The late 90s movie was based on the 18th century novel Les Liaisons dangereuses, translated to Dangerous Liaisons, by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. The updated iteration starred Sarah Catherine Hook, Savannah Lee Smith, Zac Burgess, John Harlan Kim, Sara Silva, Sean Patrick Thomas, Brooke Lena Johnson, and Khobe Clarke. Per Variety , the cancelled show was initially put together at IMDB TV in 2021, then was ordered by Prime at the end of 2023. The Power Sci-fi series, The Power, was adapted from the 2016 novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman and hit screens in 2023. The show follows a group of teenage girls who mysteriously develop a special power that allows them to electrocute people at will, according to the synopsis. Starring Toni Collette as Margot Cleary-Lopez, the democrat mayor of Seattle, Toheeb Jimoh and John Leguizamo, The Power consists of nine episodes. However, despite boasting a strong 76% Rotten Tomatoes score, the show has been axed from the streaming platform. In April, TVLine confirmed the news and said: 'The Power is in fact cancelled and will not be returning for Season 2.' Citadel: Diana and Citadel: Honey Bunny Citadel, first released on Amazon Prime Video in 2023, is a spy action series starring Richard Madden , Priyanka Chopra , Stanley Tucci and Leo Woodall. Originally, the show was going to see two spin-offs called Honey Bunny, set in India, and Diana, based in Italy, open up the storyline. Both have seen just one season each so far, released last year. However, it has now been reported that they will instead be weaved into the second season of Citadel. But bosses have promised that the merge will bring the 'most exhilarating' installment yet.

Almost Paradise Cancelled After 2 Seasons
Paradise can't last forever, it seems: The tropical action drama Almost Paradise has been cancelled after two seasons, TVLine has confirmed. 'We're looking for a new home,' executive producer Dean Devlin tells TV Insider. 'I've never had a show that was this successful and yet couldn't stay at the same place more than one season.' Almost Paradise debuted on WGN America back in 2020 and then moved to Amazon Freevee for Season 2, which aired in July 2023. A source tells TVLine that when Freevee was scrapped last year, Almost Paradise became a casualty. Cruel Intentions Cancelled at Prime Video After 1 Season Devlin isn't ready to say goodbye yet, though: 'As you can tell from Leverage: Redemption, I don't give up. So at some point, Almost Paradise will be back. I just don't know when.' Devlin also exec-produced the long-running TNT procedural Leverage, which was revived by Freevee as Leverage: Redemption in 2021. Almost Paradise starred Christian Kane — who also co-starred on Leverage — as Alex Walker, a former U.S. DEA agent who, after his partner's betrayal and a life-threatening battle with hypertension, is forced into early retirement and relocates to a small tropical island in the Philippines. There, he's pulled back into a world of dangerous people and deadly situations, either through his friends in the local police — Kai Mendoza (played by Samantha Richelle) and Ernesto Alamares (Art Acuña) — or running into people from his old life. Devlin and Gary Rosen (The Librarians) co-created the series and served as co-showrunners. Kane still stars on Leverage: Redemption (Season 3 premieres Thursday, Apr. 17) and is set to reprise his role as Jacob Stone in The Librarians: The Next Chapter (coming soon to TNT).
