LAFAYETTE, La. () — Lafayette police take an oath to serve and protect. On Wednesday, May 7, you will find officers at both restaurant locations serving great food and good vibes. Tip-A-Cop is a fun fundraiser in which the officers collect tips that go to a local organization. This year, police have teamed up to support . Last year, officers raised over $4,000 for a local non-profit. 'What we're trying to do now is that we would like to up that this year and raise more money,' Sergeant Robin Green said. 'The first year, when I went and pitched it to him, Tim was like, yes, absolutely we would love to partner with you guys to do this fundraiser,' Green explained. Owners Tim and Karen Metcalf say servers are just as excited as customers when it's time to tip a cop. 'Whoever works that night is at first like, I don't know how this is going to work out. After the first night, they request to work every year because it's so fun. The officers come and they are carrying food, they are learning to use the computer, they are pouring drinks, they are interacting with the customers and really getting that big tip. We love to see it,' Deano's owner, Karen said. 'They're here interacting with the community, not being boogeyman. I think we need that in our society. Officers are here to protect and serve, and they're serving us,' Deano's owner, Tim explained. (KLFY) — In the aftermath of last Thursday's severe weather and flash flooding, the Lafayette Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP) is asking residents, as well as business owners to report any damage to their homes and/or businesses using the self-reporting tool if they have not done so already. This secure, statewide platform through the Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) allows individuals to quickly and easily share the extent and location of damages with parish, state, and federal emergency officials. If your residence or business has sustained damage, visit to begin the reporting process. LCG added that the portal was originally developed for residential submissions, so some language included may not be applicable to business owners. Severe weather floods downtown Lafayette, disrupting businesses Tips for Reporting Damage Effectively: Submit multiple photos from different angles – include both close-ups of specific damage and wide shots of the whole structure.
