Dearborn installing more speed radar boxes to fight against speedy drivers

Driving around Dearborn, you'll notice new speed radar boxes all over the city. The pilot program started late last year, and the city now has about 40 boxes installed, with more on the way. It's part of an ongoing effort to stop reckless driving. Near the intersection of Vassar and Madison streets are a pair of speed radar boxes. "They're placed in neighborhoods that are likely to cause speeding violations or places that we've received complaints from residents in and around parks, neighborhoods, schools, etc," said Dearborn Police Corporal Dan Bartok. As a car drives by, the radar picks up the vehicle's speed. If it's over the posted speed limit in bold letters, it tells you to slow down. "It's designed to make drivers more aware of what their speed is, and to give them an opportunity to slow down, obey the speed limit, and be more conscious of their driving," Bartok said. The city is planning to install about 20 more of these speed radar boxes, bringing the total to 60. It's just one of many examples of traffic calming measures aimed at reducing reckless driving. Flashing stop signs and speed humps are among the other tools that have implemented to tackle an ongoing issue. "We're taking a very aggressive approach to traffic safety in the city of Dearborn. Traffic safety and hazardous moving violations is the No.1 concern of our residents, and we're taking all the steps possible to try to reduce traffic violations," Bartok said. Authorities say their efforts are making an impact, with speeding being one of the top complaints. "We've already received feedback from residents in the neighborhoods that they have seen a noticeable change in driving behaviors, you know, not exclusively due to the speed radar box, but because of the whole government approach," Bartok said. "If you're speeding in Dearborn, you will get cited for speeding. You're going to get a ticket, and the fines are heavy, and we want drivers to obey the speed limits." Police say that by obeying the traffic laws, you can keep everyone safe.

Ford Worker Stole Millions in Parts from Factory, Police Say

A Ford employee and three others are under arrest for their alleged involvement in a multi-million-dollar theft ring. The Dearborn Police Department in southeast Michigan is accusing the employee of stealing parts and accessories from various Ford factories and reselling them online through third-party auto shops. According to police, the thefts happened for over two years, with parts pulled right off assembly lines. Police executed search warrants at two Detroit businesses and two homes earlier this week after a months-long investigation that included help from Ford's Global Security team. Photo by: Christopher Smith / Motor1 Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shanin told Fox 2 Detroit that when officers executed the search warrant at one of the Detroit shops, brand-new auto parts were stacked 'from the floor to the ceiling.' The employee allegedly stole hoods, headlights, bumpers, headlight assemblies, running boards, and more from three Ford factories: Flat Rock Assembly Plant, Ford Rouge Complex, and Michigan Assembly Plant. These factories produce the F-150 , Ranger , Bronco , and Mustang for the Dearborn-based automaker. Police have not revealed the identities of the four individuals arrested pending formal charges. However, they remain in custody. Possible charges include grand theft auto, racketeering, and operating a criminal enterprise. This is the second large-scale theft operation uncovered this year where individuals were stealing parts from automotive factories. Less than a month ago, police in India uncovered a years-long operation that stole over 900 Kia engines . The bad actors allegedly tampered with plant records to cover up their misdeeds. 'Such criminal plots will not be tolerated in Dearborn, and we will employ all resources to bring them down,' Shahin said in the statement announcing the arrests. Cops Bust Detroit Family Theft Ring Who Stole Millions in Ford Parts From Local Factories

The Dearborn Police Department arrested several members of a family-run auto parts theft ring targeting Ford's assembly plants in the Detroit Metro area this week. While the department has yet to disclose the full scope of the operation, various outlets are reporting that multiple warehouse raids in and around the city of Detroit yielded huge stashes of brand-new parts that were allegedly pilfered right off of Ford's assembly lines. Friends, 2025 has been a banner year for large-scale automotive theft operations, and we're not even a third through May. From the reports we've seen so far, this one consisted of three family members—a Dearborn father and two sons—and at least one other individual who is also currently in custody, described as a retired Ford employee from Canton, Michigan (a far western suburb of Detroit). The police have not yet released the names of the men who were arrested, but said that all relevant suspects have been apprehended. Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin told Fox 2 Detroit that the thieves' inventory was pilfered from Ford facilities in Wayne, Dearborn, and Flat Rock over a period of at least two years. Shahin described warehouses in Detroit filled 'from the floor to the ceiling' with brand-new Ford parts ranging from body panels (including hoods and bumpers) to replacement parts (such as tail lights). After squirreling the parts away in their local warehouses, the thieves allegedly sold them on eBay using a Detroit-based front business. View this post on Instagram A post shared by TCD News (@dearborn) Videos shared on the @dearborn Instagram feed depict police removing entire pallets of parts marked 'Property of Ford' from a building on Greenfield Rd. between West Chicago and Joy on Tuesday, and stacks of bumpers and hoods were visible in several shots. At least one additional warehouse was apparently raided later in the week. Police also reportedly searched 'multiple' residences, presumably in Dearborn and Canton. Since law enforcement continues to play this one close to the chest, we have to assume this isn't the end of the story. So far, the four men are facing charges of grand theft auto, racketeering, and operating a criminal enterprise. Got a tip? Four arrests announced in Metro Detroit stolen vehicle parts investigation

Four men were arrested in Metro Detroit amid a criminal enterprise investigation involving stolen vehicle parts, according to a report from the Dearborn Police Department. The arrests happened Tuesday after several months of investigation that included assistance from Ford Motor Company Global Security, Dearborn officers said. Search warrants were served that day on two Detroit businesses along with a home in Dearborn and a home in Canton. "The investigation led Police to believe that a Ford employee was responsible for the theft of new vehicle parts and was providing them to a Detroit business to be offered for sale," police said. The names of those arrested have not been released, pending official charges from the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Additional details on the investigation will be provided at a later date. "These arrests were made possible through the diligent and sophisticated work of our investigative units and with the help and cooperation of the Ford Motor Company Global Security. Such criminal plots will not be tolerated in Dearborn and we will employ all resources to bring them down," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said in a statement.

What we know At around 9:45 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 21, officers responded to Tireman Ave and West Morrow Circle for reported shots fired at a vehicle. Dearborn Police believe the shooting followed a road rage situation that happened earlier in the evening near Warren Ave and Southfield Fwy. Police say evidence shows a white 2015 Chrysler 200 cutting off a black 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by the victim.
