High street retailer to issue refunds for used tents returned this summer

Whether you're heading to TRNSMT or a family campsite, your tent can be rescued for the next adventure Stocking up for a festival is hard work. Items like chairs, air beds, and ear plugs all need to be accounted for before we head for the event grounds. But what about a tent? And what do we do with it when the party's over? Well, one high street retailer is aiding the age-old conundrum of what to do with your tent once a festival is over, and when you're either too hungover or too tired - or both - to lug it back home with you for next year. ‌ Decathlon has announced it is issuing refunds for used tents that are returned this summer. The sporting goods store is encouraging revellers to be more environmentally conscious with its "No Tent Left Behind" pledge. ‌ "This summer, we're making it easier than ever to camp consciously and help end tent waste," a Decathlon spokesperson beamed. "Our biggest ever Tent Pledge is back for 2025 including every single Decathlon brand tent. So, how does it work? Purchase any Decathlon brand tent online or in-store between June 9 and September 14, 2025. After your adventures, return your tent to any Decathlon store with proof of purchase before September 14, 2025. To receive the full purchase value of your tent back as a Decathlon gift card, you'll need to be a Decathlon Member at the time of return. It's free to sign up and as a Member, your receipt is also conveniently saved digitally in the app. ‌ A typical single-use tent contains as much plastic as 9,000 straws or 200 bottles. Decathlon said the pledge allowed more customers than ever before to make responsible choices that countered the significant environmental issue of abandoned tents. Broadcaster Vick Hope, wife of Scots DJ Calvin Harris, is throwing her weight behind the initiative. ‌ "Whether you're dancing at Glasto, on a hilltop, or roasting marshmallows with family, your tent deserves more than one weekend of glory," the BBC Radio 1 present exclaimed. "Decathlon's pledge simplifies doing the right thing." ‌ Decathlon says the pledge has lowered the barrier to outdoor adventures, and encouraged people to invest in a tent safe in the knowledge that they can return it at the end of the season if their needs change. "What started with one tent has grown into a commitment across our entire range, driven by the public's desire to make more responsible choices," said Chris Allen, Decathlon UK sustainability leader. "By making it easy and rewarding to bring tents back, we're reducing waste across all camping activities... [and] making quality outdoor gear accessible to even more people. "This is about driving systemic change and changing camping culture for the better." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
