Motocross 2025 250 results, highlights, finish at Hangtown: Haiden Deegan wins
Haiden Deegan kept his perfect season alive with a sweep of the motos in the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, California. In 2024, Deegan swept only one round of the 11 that make up the Pro Motocross championship, but he won the title with consistently strong runs. Starting the 2025 season with four moto wins marks the first time in his career that Deegan swept rounds in back-to-back weeks. Deegan leads the Pro Motocross standings by 12 points over Jo Shimoda, and has a commanding lead of 47 points in the SuperMotocross standings that seeds the playoffs. That is nearly two full motos ahead of second-place Julien Beaumer. Click here for a recap of Hangtown Shimoda stayed within striking distance of Deegan in the championship battle with second-place finishes in both motos of the opening round at Fox Raceway and this week in Hangtown. Conceding some speed and fitness to his rival, Shimoda knows where he needs improvement as the series heads into Round 3 at Thunder Valley MX Park in Lakewood, Colorado, this week. Levi Kitchen overcame a dismal start to his Pro Motocross campaign after finishing the Fox Raceway Nationals with minimal points. He finished 10th in Moto 1 and retired with engine problems in Southern California, but peaked in the heat of Northern Cali with results of third in each moto. Relive Moto 1 Beaumer started strong in Hangtown's Moto 1 before fading to eighth in the final rundown. He performed much better in the second race, finishing fourth and scoring fourth overall due to a tiebreaker. Earning the same number of points, 32, as Beaumer, Garrett Marchbanks finished one position better in Moto 1 with a seventh and one position worse in Moto 2 with a fifth, proving it is truly how one finishes in Pro Motocross that counts. The 2025 Supercross East champion Tom Vialle crashed out of Moto 1 and, still feeling the effects of the accident, finished eighth in Moto 2 to score 14 points, resulting in an overall 17th-place finish. 2025 Hangtown Motocross 250 Moto 1
Chance Hymas earned the holeshot in Moto 1 of the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, California, as last week's overall winner, Haiden Deegan, got a slow start and ended Lap 1 just outside the top five in sixth. On the opening lap, Hymas jumped wide and momentarily left the track, which handed the top spot to Casey Cochran. Tom Vialle and Ryder DiFrancesco crashed, overshadowing Deegan's climb into third. Vialle sustained damage to his bike and pulled into the mechanic's area before heading to the pits. He will not earn any points for this round. Deegan is 1.5 seconds faster than Cochran and Hymas on Lap 5. He tends to get faster as the moto progresses. He moved into second on that lap.

2025 Motocross Hangtown 250 Quals: Haiden Deegan sweeps sessions
Haiden Deegan swept the two qualification sessions for the 250 class and topped the field by half a second. 'It will be hot; everybody's got to deal with it, but I'm pretty fit, so I'm not too worried about it,' Deegan told Peacock's Jason Thomas. 'I usually don't care to pop off in qualifying like this, but I had to this week after a rider shooed me off [the top spot]. We had to send it today.' Deegan was referencing qualification in Pala, California, when Chance Hymas nipped him on the final lap of the second session. Hymas settled for second in Round 2, but that was only half the story. While the track had appreciably slowed for the second session, Hymas would have preferred to finish ahead of his rival. Other than pride, there was nothing to gain. Nevertheless, Deegan rode a wide line around the track following a red flag for a three-rider crash. Hymas was forced to follow. Ty Masterpool was third on the chart with a time of 1:57.398, which was .897 seconds slower than Deegan. Fourth-place Garrett Marchbanks (1:57.428) and Casey Cochran (1:57.479) rounded out the top five. The second qualification session was marred by a red flag involving Hunter Yoder and Trevor Colip. Yoder put his Honda on the dirt at the top of a hill and Colip was unable to avoid the fallen bike. Colip was carted off by the Alpinestars Medical crew for evaluation. ‘Credit card' knife incident at City Council sparks scrutiny over security firm, city contract
A 'credit card' sized knife that made its way past security and into Jacksonville City Council Chambers is raising serious concerns and putting new pressure on the private company paid millions to protect City Hall and other Jacksonville buildings. While the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) is responsible for security inside the Council Chambers, it's First Coast Security (FCS) that guards the rest of the building. Now, following the knife incident on Tuesday, the Mayor's Office is demanding better training, starting with how FCS officers handle weapons like the one discovered after three people were arrested during a disturbance that halted the City Council meeting. Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan's sent Action News Jax the following statement about the incident: 'We all have freedom of speech. The time to exercise that right is during the public comment period of City Council meetings. The words we choose matter. Civil discourse should be just that. Civil. If we truly want to solve problems, we have to find a way to speak respectfully to each other. 'A small 'credit card' knife went undetected in a wallet during the standard security screening process for last night's City Council meeting. Moving forward, we have directed First Coast Security to train their officers on this style of concealed weapon, and to conduct extra inspections of all personal items going into the Council Chambers. 'We are also conducting a full security review for City Hall - including potential equipment upgrades, staffing changes, and vendor options - as we get closer to the current security vendor contract expiring in September 2025.' Action News Jax's Ben Becker obtained the city's security contract and discovered that First Coast Security can receive up to $4.7 million per year for its services guarding multiple city buildings, including City Hall. That agreement was signed in 2022 under former Mayor Lenny Curry. [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter] The city has until Aug. 1 to decide whether to renew the contract for another year. When Becker reached out for comment on the knife incident and potential changes to training, a spokesperson for First Coast Security declined to speak, citing the need for more information. Meanwhile, there are new questions about past security practices, specifically, a potentially illegal gun registry maintained at City Hall. Action News Jax first broke the story that FCS officers were logging the names of people legally carrying concealed weapons into the building. That kind of registry was banned in Florida on July 1, 2023 -- the same day Deegan took office. [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] Deegan's office said the policy was created under the previous administration of Curry's, not hers. In response, the city's Office of General Counsel has hired a law firm -- Bedell, Dittmar, DeVault, Pillans & Coxe -- to defend against any legal fallout, as nine current and former city workers have been subpoenaed by the State Attorney's Office. The contract allows the firm to earn up to $15,000, with three specific attorneys approved to work on the case. One of those attorneys is Henry Coxe, a well-known criminal defense attorney and the father-in-law of Jacksonville's General Counsel, Michael Fackler, who made the decision to hire Coxe's firm. As previously reported on May 5, that connection is drawing scrutiny, though city officials insist the hiring followed proper protocols. Jacksonville mayor: Small ‘credit card' knife found on 1 of 3 arrested during City Council meeting
Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan is speaking out after three people were arrested during Tuesday night's City Council meeting. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Tuesday night that "Council leadership requested that JSO officers remove a group of individuals who were disrupting the proceedings." Deegan said in a statement Wednesday that while public comment is a time to exercise free speech, 'the words we choose matter.' The three who ended up being arrested, JSO said, 'refused to leave and resisted, becoming combative with officers. Officers discovered a knife on one of the individuals who was arrested.' Here are the people who were arrested and the charges they are facing: Conor Cauley, 29 - Facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon. Police said he was carrying a knife. Leah Grady, 24 - Grady is facing charges of misdemeanor resisting an officer without violence. Teagan Belloit, aka Dragon, 25 - Belloit is facing charges of misdemeanor resisting an officer without violence. She was released without bond. [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter] In a statement, Deegan gave insight into the knife that Cauley was reportedly carrying, saying it was 'a small 'credit card' knife.' Deegan said that there will be a 'full security review' of City Hall and that security guards will be trained to look for 'this style of concealed weapon.'
