Why Is Deepak Chahar Not Playing For MI In IPL 2025 Eliminator Clash Vs GT?
Last Updated: Mumbai Indians suffered multiple big blows with the likes of Ryan Rickelton and Deepak Chahar not being named in their starting XI for the Eliminator clash against Gujarat Titans. Both Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians made a few changes in the first eliminator of the Indian Premier League playoff stages, with the match being held at the Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali on Friday. Gujarat Titans made two changes from their side. One being the obvious, Jos Buttler, who had to leave the squad due to England's ODI series against the West Indies. Another big change made by GT is dropping the left-arm pacer Arshad Khan from their playing 11. To replace these two stars, they have handed the debut to the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter, Kusal Mendis, who was roped in as Buttler's replacement. In addition, Washington Sundar comes back into the GT side as well. One of the big misses for the five-time champions, the Mumbai Indians, is the absence of Deepak Chahar. The pacer was not named in the side's playing 11 and was replaced by the English pacer, Richard Gleeson, who, like Chahar, had represented the Chennai Super Kings before. In addition, they won't have the services of their star wicketkeeper batter from South Africa, Ryan Rickelton, who has left the squad to prepare for the World Test Championship as well. But in his place comes the experienced English wicketkeeper-batter, Jonny Bairstow, who has played in the IPL previously for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Punjab Kings. ‘He disappointed me with his bowling changes': Virender Sehwag on MI captain Hardik Pandya
Former India batter Virender Sehwag was left disappointed by Hardik Pandya's decision to continue with Deepak Chahar for 2 more overs after the bowler had faced discomfort bowling his first due to a hamstring issue which led to strapping his leg during the match against Punjab Kings. Sehwag said that if Pandya had brought himself or Jasprit Bumrah to bowl the two overs instead of Chahar, Punjab could have been kept under pressure. 'I said this in the commentary box also that when Deepak Chahar had a problem with his hamstring, he made him bowl 2 overs. Sunil Gavaskar Slams MI Skipper Hardik Pandya For Poor "Last Over" Call vs GT
Former India captain and renowned commentator Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya for not bowling the final over in the rain-curtailed IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday. Playing at the Wankhede Stadium, GT were chasing 156 but due to the several rain breaks, they needed 15 runs in the 19th over to win the match. MI sent pacer Deepak Chahar but he also failed to defend the remaining runs as GT clinched the victory and climbed to the top of the points table. Gavaskar stated that Hardik's track record of bowling the final overs has been great and the decision of giving the ball to Deepak Chahar proved to be costly for the five-time champions. "As I explained earlier, because of the fact that he had bowled those final overs - and bowled them very well - he bowled over against Bangladesh where, I mean, we got 3 wickets, Bangladesh had to score 4 or 5, and India managed to win that game by 1. And then in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup last year in the West Indies, in Barbados, he bowled that final over and India win," Gavaskar said while speaking on JioStar.
