"It's The Last Stage...": MS Dhoni Drops Big Hint On Future In Chat With Ravi Shastri
Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat against Gujarat Titans in their Indian Premier League match on Sunday, in what could potentially be his last match in the T20 league. Speaking to Ravi Shastri at the time of the toss, Dhoni answered some tricky questions around his physical well-being, ability to play cricket at the age of 43. While Shastri didn't directly ask if this would be Dhoni's final season in the IPL, the CSK icon decided to drop a hint himself. "My body is surviving. Every year is a new challenge. It needs a lot of maintenance. It is the last stage of my career. Didn't trouble me enough when I was playing international cricket," Dhoni said after winning the toss and opting to bat first. While Dhoni didn't specifically say if he would return to play for CSK next season, he did admit to be in the final stage. "It (pitch) looks nice and hard, think it will remain the same throughout the 40 overs. It's quite hot, looks like a good track. It's (his body) surviving. Every year is a new challenge. It needs a lot of maintenance. Didn't trouble me enough when I was playing international cricket. Chennai is very nice after 3.30-4pm, this is a different heat, on the drier side. We are last in the table, we will still remain last, if win or lose. Need to enjoy our cricket. We have one change. Hooda is back for Ashwin. They are a good side, they play authentic cricket. Need to bowl tight lines, otherwise the batters will punish you," when asked about the team and the pitch, Dhoni revealed that Deepak Hooda has come in for Ravichandran Ashwin. A victory is crucial in this contest for GT, who have 18 points from 13 matches so far with nine wins, as it will help them ensure a top-two finish for the IPL playoffs. For CSK, it will be yet another opportunity to test the young talent. Gujarat Titans: Shubman Gill (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Sherfane Rutherford, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Gerald Coetzee, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, Prasidh Krishna. IPL 2025: CSK opt to bat first as GT aim to seal top berth
Chennai Super Kings have won the toss and opted to bat first against Gujarat Titans in match 67 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. While Chennai Super Kings were the first team to be eliminated from the playoffs contention, they could play spoilsport for Gujarat Titans, who would be eyeing to seal the top spot in the table with a win. With nothing to lose for the MS Dhoni-led side, probably captaining CSK for the last time, urged his team to enjoy their cricket and confirmed Ravichandran Ashwin is making way for Deepak Hooda in the playing XI. 'It looks nice and hard, will remain the same. It's quite hot, and looks like a good track. It's surviving. Every year is a new challenge. It needs a lot of maintenance. Didn't trouble me enough when I was playing international cricket. Chennai is very nice, this is different heat, on the slower side. We are last in the table, we will still remain last, if we win or lose. Need to enjoy our cricket. We have one change. Hooda is back. They are a good side, they play authentic cricket. Need to bowl tight lines,' said CSK captain Dhoni at the toss. His counterpart on the day is none other than newly-appointed India Test skipper Shubman Gill who acknowledged the challenge that awaits India in England following the conclusion of the IPL. GT too made one change with Gerald Coetzee coming in place of Kagiso Rabada. 'Feels exciting to have that (captaincy) challenge, it's going to be an exciting series against England for us. In the last match we were in the game till the 16th or 17th over. We were looking to bowl first today anyway. Looks a good wicket to bat on, it won't change much,' said Gill. Yuzvendra Chahal Takes Stunning Hattrick In IPL 2025 Vs CSK, Breaks Many Records
Last Updated: Yuzvendra Chahal of Punjab Kings achieved a hat-trick against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, taking the wickets of Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad. Punjab Kings (PBKS) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal made multiple records with a stunning hat-trick against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk on Wednesday (April 30). He took the wickets of all-rounder Deepak Hooda and bowlers Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad on consecutive deliveries in the 19th over of the first innings of the clash. This was his second hat-trick in the IPL, with the first coming against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2022. He became the first player to take an IPL hat-trick against CSK, the fourth to take a hat-trick for PBKS (after Yuvraj Singh, Axar Patel and now-CSK player Sam Curran), the third to take multiple hat-tricks in the tournament after Amit Mishra and Yuvraj and also the second to take two of these for two teams after Mishra. Chahal celebrated it with his typical lazy pose. Watch the moment here: Chahal had not taken any wickets in his two previous overs in the match. He took the first on the second ball of the 19th of CSK skipper MS Dhoni, by making him reach out for a wide one (just a ball after he had hit a six stepping down). Dhoni tried to go over the long-off fence but didn't get under it and ended up holing it out. On the next delivery, he surprised tailender Kamboj with a quick and flat one. The batter tried to flick it to the leg-side but missed it all ended up and got bowled. Generally, batters coming on a hat-trick ball try to defend it. But perhaps because it was the second-last over and Shivam Dube was on the other end who'd have wanted the strike for the 20th, Noor went for the big-hit. It was flighted slowly and luringly straight outside off, Noor cleared his front foot and had a lot of power behind it but not a clean connection, making it go in the air for an easy catch at long-on. IPL 2025: Rachin, Shankar make way for Brevis, Hooda as SRH opt to bowl vs CSK
Chennai: Sunrisers Hyderabad have opted to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings in Match 43 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Friday. With both sides sitting at the bottom of the points table with just four points each from eight matches, this clash is crucial for their playoff hopes. Chennai Super Kings, known for their dominance at home, have faced a tough time adjusting to the conditions at Chepauk this season. Despite their experience and strong core, CSK have struggled to read the pitch conditions, leading to unexpected defeats. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, playing his 400th T20 game on the night, revealed he too wanted to bowl first and explained the two changes made by the side, which saw Dewald Brevis and Deepak Hooda come in the side in place of Rachin Ravindra and Vijay Shankar. 'Dew was the main reason why we also wanted to bowl first. In almost all the departments, when you are not playing good cricket, chances are there will be pressure on the other guys as well. We want to get the process right, and that is what we are looking to aim for the rest of the games. "We are looking at one game at a time, and we are looking at a few combinations and have confidence in your ability and execute what you want to. We are not too sure how the wicket is. The groundsmen are trying their level best," he said. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad have had a similarly disappointing season. The team has been plagued by early batting collapses, especially in the powerplay, and the failure to form key partnerships. Sunrisers Hyderabad's strategy of being ultra-aggressive in the early overs has often backfired, leaving them in vulnerable positions. 'Chennai is always a big game, coming off a couple of losses, but it is a new venue and the boys are up for it. If the wicket is good, backing them to get a big total, and otherwise also backing them to do well. The pitch looks a little bit dry,' said skipper Pat Cummins at the toss. Both teams have reached a point where they must win all their remaining matches to stay in contention for the playoffs. The battle between CSK and SRH is set to be a thrilling one as both teams fight to keep their hopes alive in the PL 2025 season.
