Noida: A man arrested with 1kg of marijuana in Jan this year pleaded guilty in front of the GB Nagar additional sessions cum fast track court. He was sentenced to seven months and 13 days of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1000. Having already spent the period in jail, he is soon going to walk free. Deepak Mahto, a resident of Hoshiyarpur village in Sector 49, was arrested by Sector 51 police near Hitler Park on Jan 27 with 1.14 kg of marijuana. He was booked under section 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and was chargesheeted on June 2. While recording his statement in the court, Mahto owned up to the crime and supported the prosecution investigation as correct. He expressed willingness to plead guilty, while his counsel, Chandrapal Singh, requested leniency because the convict was a poor man and this was his first crime. Deepak has faced his struggles since he came to Mumbai 15 years ago. He shared a series of photos showing himself in various occupations over the years. In the caption, he poured his heart out, revealing the story of his journey to becoming a social media star. In 2016, Deepak worked as a marble cutter at Jupiter Hospital in Baner, Pune. In 2017, he was a labourer at Ashok Tower in Lalbaug. Then, in 2019, he worked as a labour contractor at CCI-Brabourne Stadium. He then lost his savings of 4-5 years after submitting a bill, just before the lockdown struck.
