The hidden gem Scottish waterfall pool you can swim in to cool off during heatwave
Our latest Walk of the Week offers you the chance for a refreshing dip - and there is also a cosy diner nearby.
With the warm temperatures Scotland has been enjoying in recent days, it serves as a reminder that summer is just around the corner. Although there is still a month to go until the new season begins, it feels like it is here already.
As we all know, there is nothing worse than feeling hot and sticky when you are out on a hike in the sun. In those moments, the only thing that can really cool you down is a dip in water.
For that reason, the Daily Record has chosen a beauty spot where you can enjoy a refreshing swim for our latest Walk of the Week. Each week, we pick one hike and showcase what makes it special—and this time it is Lower Pattack Falls.
This one-of-a-kind wild swimming spot consists of a dark pool of water at the bottom of a series of spectacular waterfalls. A true hidden gem, not many people are even aware of its existence.
Although it feels isolated and secluded, Lower Pattack Falls is easily reached by car. It is located near the A86 close to Kinloch Laggan in the Cairngorms National Park.
While it is easy to miss, there is a car park near the falls. From the car park, all you need to do is follow a path that takes you down to the water.
Important to note is that wild swimming can be dangerous if you are not careful, and you will need to make sure the water is safe before entering. If the water looks rough and brown and there are lots of bubbles on the surface, you should return another time.
The pool is quite small, making it better suited for floating around than serious swimming. Still, you should not enter the water unless you are a confident swimmer.
Once you have cooled down and are ready to call it a day, simply return to the car park. On your way home, be sure to stop in at the Deerstalker Diner for some well-earned food and drink.
