Trump tariffs to take effect A new set of tariffs as announced by Donald Trump will come into effect today. These are based off an executive order, titled 'Further Modifying The Reciprocal Tariff Rates' that Trump signed on July 31. This includes a 25 per cent tariff on India. The tariffs in the list range from 10 per cent to 40 per cent, with Syria being charged the highest with 41 per cent, whereas Pakistan has been charged with 19 per cent. While announcing the order, Trump had said that some trading partners have agreed to, or are on the verge of agreeing to, meaningful trade and security commitments with the United States, thus signalling their sincere intentions to permanently remedy trade barriers and to align with the United States on economic and national security matters. 'Other trading partners, despite having engaged in negotiations, have offered terms that, in my judgement, do not sufficiently address imbalances in our trading relationship or have failed to align sufficiently with the United States on economic and national-security matters,' he said. Def Con 33 begins in Las Vegas Today also marks the beginning of Def Con 33 at the Las Vegas Convention Centre in Las Vegas. Def Con is one of the world's largest and most iconic hacker conventions, bringing together security enthusiasts, researchers, and hackers from around the globe. This even began in 1993 in a few hotel rooms by an 18-year-old Jeff Moss with around 100 people. It now hosts tens of thousands of visitors paying more than $500 a head to listen to talks, take part in hacking and gaming competitions, and visit over 30 'villages' dedicated to everything from ham radio to military hacking demonstrations.
