UP acquires 96% land for defence industrial corridor
1 2 Lucknow: The state's ambitious Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) project has completed 96% of the land acquisition process , officials said. Out of the total approved 2,097 hectare, 2,015 hectare has already been purchased and acquired, an official spokesperson said on Wednesday. The UP expressways industrial development authority ( UPEIDA ) is working at an accelerated pace to complete the corridor by Nov 2025, he added. As part of the acquisition drive, compensation has been disbursed to approximately 5,800 farmers, with Jhansi district witnessing the highest number of beneficiaries — over 2,000 farmers received compensation for their land, officials said. Out of the total 2,015 hectare of land for the corridor, more than 1,794 hectare land has been purchased, while over 220 hectare land has been reacquired, transferred, or exchanged. This project is being developed across six nodes: Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi, Aligarh, Chitrakoot and Agra. UPEIDA officials said the highest land acquisition has taken place in the Jhansi node, with over 1,087 hectare secured. In Chitrakoot, more than 274 hectare has been acquired in two phases, followed by over 222 hectare in Kanpur Nagar, 160 hectare in Lucknow, 158 hectare in Aligarh (in two phases), and 112 hectare in Agra (also in two phases). "The land acquisition process has remained transparent, with a strong focus on protecting farmers' interests as per directions of chief minister Yogi Adityanath ," officials said. So far, 5,800 farmers have received compensation for their land. The highest number of beneficiaries is in Jhansi, where 2,037 farmers were compensated. This is followed by 1,816 farmers in Chitrakoot (in two phases), 833 in Kanpur Nagar, 493 in Aligarh (in two phases), 369 in Agra (in two phases) and 260 in Lucknow. In terms of property registration (sale deeds), a total of 2,345 sale deeds have been completed. "CM Yogi has called the corridor a key part of UP's industrial development and of the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision. The govt aims to make UP a $1 trillion economy through this project. Timely completion of the corridor is expected to boost industrial activity and create a large number of local jobs," officials said.

Uttar Pradesh marked a major milestone in India's push for defence self-reliance with the launch of a BrahMos missile manufacturing unit in Lucknow recently. As per reports, the state has attracted Rs 28,475 crore worth of investments through, with 57 companies already receiving land and 87 in the process. The Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor was announced in the 2018–19 Union Budget alongside another corridor in Tamil Nadu. It spans six cities — Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi, Agra, Aligarh, and Chitrakoot — each selected for their expressway access and existing or planned air connectivity. Jewar near Aligarh is expected to gain an international airport, and airstrips are planned in Chitrakoot and Jhansi. From Lucknow to Aligarh In Lucknow, the new BrahMos facility marks the start of high-end missile production, with over 100 cruise missiles in the pipeline. The unit will also produce drones and ammunition, supported by a dedicated testing facility. Around 3,000 direct and 10,000 indirect jobs are expected. Kanpur is hosting Asia's largest ammunition complex on 250 acres, set up by Adani Group. The facility will produce 41 weapon types, including drones, assault rifles, and light aircraft. Bharat Dynamics Limited is leading with a Rs 140 crore missile plant, part of a broader Rs 400 crore investment. Other contributors include Saab AB and Indian arms manufacturers. In Agra , BHEL is setting up a Rs 400 crore radar and communication equipment facility on 123 hectares. Though construction is at an early stage, Agra is projected to become a key player in electronic warfare systems. Employment estimates are still being finalised. Among them are Verwin Defence, Smith & Wesson (manufacturing revolvers and pistols), and Amit Industries (producing radar systems). Chitrakoot is emerging as a future-ready defence cluster with 85% of land already acquired. Development here includes drone, helicopter, missile, tank, robotic system production, and a firing range. Anshul Metal and Polymers is investing Rs 6,000 crore alone.

Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 12 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched two key public welfare projects for Gorakhpur. He inaugurated the new Urban Facilitation Centre (Nagariya Seva Kendra) and a Senior Citizen Day Care Centre. These initiatives are important steps in making Gorakhpur a smart city. 'I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Nagariya Seva Kendra. The Uttar Pradesh government has also launched the Senior Citizen Day Care Centre, a dedicated space where elderly individuals can spend their day. The facility, set up under the Defence Industrial Corridor initiative, will manufacture BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, boosting India's defense capabilities and reducing dependence on imports. Addressing a public gathering in Gorakhpur, CM Yogi said,'... The biggest terror state is Pakistan. Brahmos is a missile that targeted a Pakistani aircraft recently and it will now be manufactured in Lucknow... Weapons will be made that will shake the enemy...' Adityanath's comments came amid Operation Sindoor, India's military operation targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The BrahMos facility aligns with the Make-in-India initiative, promoting self-reliance in defense production and positioning Lucknow as a defense manufacturing hub. He also urged citizens to remain alert against 'anti-national' elements and boycott anyone who speaks against India's interests.'We are secure when our country is secure, and that happens when we all keep the nation first... Public should be aware of anyone who makes any statement that is anti-national and boycott them,' he added. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya echoed the sentiment, emphasising the significance of the BrahMos unit as part of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor. 'Under the defence corridor, the historic unit for integration of the BrahMos missile is an important step towards making India a superpower. This is a huge achievement for PM Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, UP CM Yogi Adityanath and the double-engine Government, and the more it is appreciated, the less it is.
