Indiana University names David Reingold new Bloomington chancellor
Indiana University Bloomington has a new chancellor. David Reingold, a former IU faculty member and Purdue University's current College of Liberal Arts dean and senior vice president for policy planning, will assume the role on June 2.
Reingold will report directly to IU President Pamela Whitten and serve as executive vice president of her cabinet. IU Bloomington's current provost, Rahul Shrivastav, will report to Reingold.
Reingold will be Bloomington's first chancellor since 2006, when former IU President Adam Herbert and the Board of Trustees moved to make the provost chief academic officer of the Bloomington campus after having difficulty filling the chancellor role.

A press release announcing Reingold's appointment said he will be responsible for finance and administration, community engagement, enrollment management, student life, and research and creative activities on campus. The original job posting by Isaacson, Miller, a search firm that led the early steps of the selection process, said the chancellor role also would lead diversity, equity and inclusion efforts on campus.
The provost will continue to focus on academic functions on campus, including overseeing deans, faculty, and academic affairs.
Reingold is a longtime administrator and faculty member who spent 18 years at IU Bloomington before being hired by Purdue.
Reingold began as an assistant professor at IU's O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs (formerly known as SPEA) in 1997. He became associate dean of the school in 2008, serving in the position until 2015.
He earned his master's and doctoral degrees in sociology from the University of Chicago in 1992 and 1996, respectively.

Reingold serves as both the dean of Purdue's College of Liberal Arts and the senior vice president for policy planning. In the latter role, Reingold coordinates with the federal government in Washington, D.C., and advances new initiatives across Purdue's campuses.
During his town hall visit to campus last month, Reingold highlighted Purdue's Cornerstone program, which incorporates critical reading and ethics skills into freshman liberal arts curriculum, and the four-year dual-degree program, 'Degree Plus,' as among his accomplishments as dean.
IU did not provide details on why Reingold was chosen over Stony Brook University Carl Lejuez, who visited campus last week. A press release announcing Reingold's appointment focused heavily on his background as a former IU Bloomington faculty member and administrator.
'I'm excited to welcome David back to Bloomington, a campus he not only understands but truly cherishes,' Whitten is quoted as saying in the press release. 'I'm confident that David's visionary leadership of our flagship campus, paired with his commitment to collaboration with faculty, staff and students, will drive us toward an even brighter future.'
IU has not responded to questions about how much Reingold will earn.
Rahul Shrivastav, provost of IU Bloomington, made $466,529 last year. Latha Ramchand, inaugural chancellor of IU Indianapolis (IU's second largest campus by enrollment), will make $609,760 this year, according to the IDS.
Whitten, whose contract was just extended by five years in February, currently makes $702,000 a year and will make $900,000 a year with her latest raise.
