Low speed averts accident as train hits iron grille placed on track
Lucknow: A major train accident was averted when the Anand Vihar Terminal-Gorakhpur Humsafar Express (12572) hit an iron grille placed on the railway track in Dilkusha-Malhaur section of Lucknow around 3am on Sunday. Since the train was running at a very slow speed, a major accident was averted. This was the eighth train sabotage attempt in Uttar Pradesh and third in Lucknow since April. Senior section engineer (P-way) Rajiv Srivastava filed an FIR against unidentified people at Gomtinagar police station late Sunday night under sections 151 (damage to or destruction of certain railway properties) and 153 (endangering the safety of railway passengers) of the Railway Act. "Around 3.40 am, the control was informed that the train (12572) had hit an iron grille kept on the Dilkusha-Malhaur section," the FIR read. After the incident, loco pilots of the train removed the grille from the track. "Since the train was at low speed, the possibility of derailment had reduced," an official source from the Northern Railway, Lucknow division, said. Similar incidents have been reported in UP for the last three months. On June 1 night, an unidentified person had stuffed ballast — the crushed stones that stabilize railway tracks —between the tongue rail and stock rail, jamming the mechanism designed to ensure smooth train transitions near Dohna station in Bareilly district (Northeastern Railway's Izzatnagar division). Alert loco-pilots and the train manager of the 05307 Tanakpur-Bareilly City passenger train spotted trouble on the tracks and acted swiftly to prevent a potential disaster. Unidentified miscreants had also bent the earthing plate, a flat metal component connecting the overhead equipment (OHE) to the switch expansion joint rail (SWJR). The SWJR allows rails to expand and contract with temperature changes while maintaining the switch's functionality. Similarly, on May 31, loco pilots of the 64021 Delhi-Shamli MEMU train averted disaster when they spotted a 12-foot iron pipe, ballast, and a broken concrete tube placed on the tracks near Shamli station. On the intervening night of May 29-30, an attempt to derail the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Tejas Rajdhani Express (22824) was foiled after ballast was found on the tracks between Bheerpur and Meja Road in Prayagraj. The same month, two attempts to derail Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express (20504) and Kathgodam Express (15044) were recorded on May 19, near Dalelnagar and Umar Tali stations of Hardoi district, when a wooden log was found on the track.

Seventh train sabotage attempt averted in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: Averting yet another incident of suspected sabotage, the alert loco-pilots and the train manager of Tanakpur-Bareilly City passenger train spotted trouble on the tracks and acted swiftly to prevent a potential disaster on June 1. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The incident took place on the railway tracks near Dohna station in Bareilly. It was the seventh such incident in the state this summer. The culprits, still unidentified, had tampered with the point mechanism, a system that guides trains between tracks at junctions. They stuffed ballast—the crushed stones that stabilize railway tracks—between the tongue rail and stock rail, jamming the mechanism designed to ensure smooth train transitions. The tongue rail, a tapered, movable rail that fits snugly against the fixed stock rail (of the main track), was left inoperable, threatening to derail the train by disrupting its path. Adding to the sabotage, the unidentified miscreants bent the earthing plate, a flat metal component connecting the overhead equipment (OHE) to the switch expansion joint rail (SWJR). The SWJR allows rails to expand and contract with temperature changes while maintaining the switch's functionality. Station master Bhupinder Arora of Dohna station reported the incident via a memo, prompting immediate action. The Northeastern Railway's Izzatnagar division confirmed the sabotage, and an FIR was filed at Bhojipura station under Section 150 of the Railway Act (malicious attempts to wreck trains). Senior superintendent of police Anurag Arya said that a team has been formed to track down those responsible for this dangerous act. Alert locopilot spots 20-ft-long pipe on tracks in UP, foils derailment bid
Representative image SHAMLI: A 20ft-long iron borewell pipe having a diameter of around 8 inches was detected on Delhi-Saharanpur railway track by an alert loco pilot in the nick of time, averting a major train tragedy on Saturday night. Several medium- to large-sized stones were also found on the tracks. Notably, this was the fourth such attempt of sabotaging of train operations in Uttar Pradesh in May. Last week, there was an attempt to derail the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Tejas Rajdhani express when an unknown person kept ballast on the tracks between Bheerpur and Meja Road railway stations. Two attempts to derail the Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express (20504) and Kathgodam Express (15044) were recorded on May 19, near Dalelnagar and Umar Tali stations, when an unknown person had kept a wooden log on the rail track. Sharing details of the Shamli incident, officials said the loco pilot applied the emergency brakes and brought the 64021 Delhi-Shamli train to a halt. They added that the pipe was discovered around 10.18 pm between Kandhla and Shamli stations. An FIR was registered at Shamli police station against unknown persons, said Shamli SP Ram Sevak Gautam."Initial investigation revealed that the borewell pipe was uprooted from a tubewell belonging to a farmer of nearby Simbhalkha village," Gautam said, adding that"given the seriousness of the issue, several special police teams have been formed to identify and apprehend those responsible."
