Suspect in alleged child sexual assault remains at large, B.C. police say

A wanted man sought in connection with an alleged child sexual assault in Delta, B.C., last year remains at large, police said Tuesday while renewing calls for information on his whereabouts. Delta resident Gurkirat Singh, 26, is the subject of a Canada-wide warrant for sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, and sexual interference of a person under 16 years old. Authorities have shared few details on the allegations, except that they date back to Sept. 12, 2024. Nearing one year later, the Delta Police Department's Vulnerable Sector Unit put out a public plea for help locating Singh so he can 'stand trial for these allegations.' 'Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Gurkirat Singh is asked to call 911 or Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers,' police said in a news release. 'All tips can be submitted anonymously.' Crime Stoppers issued a similar appeal back in May, saying Singh is 'considered a danger to the community.' The suspect is described as 6' tall, approximately 140 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. Police also shared an image of Singh, but said it's possible he has altered his appearance. Tips can be submitted to Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 or online at

Conference Board report forecasts 1.5 per cent GDP growth for this year

Construction workers work at the site of a condo tower under construction, in Delta, B.C., on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Darryl Dyck OTTAWA — The Conference Board of Canada is forecasting the economy will grow by 1.5 per cent this year as uncertainty surrounding U.S. trade policies continues to weigh on business and consumer confidence Cory Renner, associate director of economic forecasting at the Conference Board, says the economy outperformed expectations in the first quarter, but the momentum is quickly fading. The report notes the housing market remains under intense pressure, while the trade sector is also in for a rough ride. Renner says trade disputes are casting shadows over multiple sectors of the economy and are expected to dampen growth throughout the remainder of the year. While Canadian exporters have turned to new markets with some success, the gains have been insufficient to offset the decline in exports to the U.S., the report says. It also says business investment is expected to suffer, with concerns over the Canada-U.S. trade relationship keeping spending subdued. This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 7, 2025.

Two men arrested in B.C., charged with murder in shooting of Mississauga man, police say

Peel Region police say two men were arrested in British Columbia and charged with murder in the shooting death of a man in Mississauga last month. Police say 51-year-old Harjeet Dhadda of Brampton, Ont., was allegedly approached by a suspect and shot multiple times in a Mississauga parking lot the morning of May 14, and he later died in hospital. They allege the suspects fled in a stolen vehicle, which was found shortly after the shooting. Police say two 21-year-old male suspects were tracked to Delta, B.C., and with help from local police forces and the RCMP, both were arrested on May 28. They say the accused were transported back to Ontario to face the charges of first-degree murder. Police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators.
