From Coast to Coast - Delta Development Team Sets the Standard for Prehospital Blood Storage

TUCSON, Ariz., May 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Development Team (DDT) is proud to announce that its innovative APRU 6L portable blood refrigerator and Delta ICE 2L Smart Blood Cooler are setting a national benchmark for prehospital blood storage and transport, revolutionizing healthcare on both the West and East coasts, helping emergency services deliver life-saving care from California to New Jersey, and nearly every state in between. This achievement comes as leaders in their respective states, University Hospital EMS in Newark, NJ and Corona Fire Department in Corona, CA, have set the standard for bringing this life-saving initiative to the prehospital setting. These agencies are just some of the first in the expansion of blood transfusion programs within their states and across the country. "We began working on this program in 2022 and have spent the last three years ensuring we can safely and effectively provide this service to patients in need," said Jason Brady, University Hospital EMS Executive Director. "Throughout that time, our partnership with the Delta Development Team has been instrumental. Their responsiveness, innovation, and deep understanding of our mission have made them more than just a vendor—they are a trusted collaborator. We are extremely satisfied with their support and proud of what we've accomplished together." Designed originally for military use, the APRU portable blood refrigerator has effortlessly transitioned into the prehospital care environment. This state-of-the-art device ensures precise temperature control, rugged durability, and unparalleled accountability, making it a trusted device in mission-critical scenarios such as trauma response, mass casualty incidents, and remote medical deployments. The Delta ICE 2L Smart Blooder Cooler, on the other hand, was designed with the prehospital emergency setting in mind: a hi-tech passive cooler that displays real-time temperature, with intuitive software for remote blood management, ensuring compliance and traceability. By meeting the rigorous demands of prehospital care environments, both the APRU and Delta ICE have become two of the most trusted and efficient transportable blood storage devices on the market, setting a new standard in emergency medical care. "Having our technology support such trailblazing programs from both ends of the country is a powerful validation of our mission," said Montgomery Leija, CEO at Delta Development Team. "We are honored to play a role in advancing prehospital care and enabling emergency responders to deliver transfusions when and where they're needed most." As California and New Jersey continue to lead their states' charge in advancing healthcare solutions, DDT remains dedicated to supporting first responders with innovative technologies that enhance patient outcomes. With its reliable, easy-to-use, and durable designs, its cutting-edge thermal systems are poised to become cornerstones in emergency medical care across the nation. Delta Development Team Selected for $1.57M TACFI Opportunity to Advance Total Blood System (TBS)

TUCSON, Ariz., April 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Development Team (DDT) is proud to announce that it has been selected for a $1.57 million Tactical Funding Increase (TACFI) opportunity by AFWERX, the innovation arm of the Department of the Air Force and a directorate within the Air Force Research Laboratory. The phase IIB award represents a partnership between DDT, AFWERX, the 59th Medical Wing's Office of the Chief Scientist, the Center for Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills (C-STARS), and Air Mobility Command. This funding will accelerate the development of DDT's groundbreaking Total Blood System (TBS), a revolutionary technology poised to transform blood management for enroute military care, battlefield distribution, and prehospital blood transfusion programs for emergency healthcare. Dr. Debra Niemeyer, the Chief Scientist for the 59th Medical Wing, noted that "We are thrilled to support the development and fielding of the Total Blood System (TBS) for C-STARs and Air Mobility Command, as it addresses the critical challenges in blood management by providing an efficient, scalable, and sustainable solution for blood storage, transport, and distribution." The Total Blood System (TBS) is designed to overcome key challenges in blood management, such as the need for high volumes of cold-stored blood, transport durability during enroute care, and inefficiencies in long-term blood storage. By providing a more efficient, reliable, and safe system for blood storage and transport, TBS is set to enable whole blood transfusions for military personnel and patients suffering from traumatic injuries—ultimately saving lives in critical care situations. "We are deeply honored to be selected for the TACFI opportunity, which will play a key role in advancing the Total Blood System (TBS) project," said Montgomery Leija, CEO of Delta Development Team. "This initiative will help us enhance the technology, support our warfighters, and bring us closer to commercialization. TBS has the potential to revolutionize how blood is stored, transported, and distributed, ultimately improving patient outcomes and addressing pressing healthcare challenges." The TACFI selection and funding will support the next phase of TBS development, including scaling production, expanding research efforts, and meeting regulatory and safety standards to create a commercially available, advanced medical capability for military and civilian use. This opportunity is a pivotal step towards accelerating the TBS's path to market, with significant applications in military and emergency medical healthcare sectors.
