What Georgia transfer guard Silas Demary Jr. brings to UConn
What Georgia transfer guard Silas Demary Jr. brings to UConn Following their first-round exit from the NCAA March Madness tournament, the Georgia Bulldogs have seen some offseason roster changes. Starting point guard Silas Demary Jr. initially announced his plans to explore both the NBA draft and the transfer portal, and he has now revealed his new college team. He was set on visiting four schools who could be in national championship contention. After he visited the UConn Huskies, he committed to the Huskies for the 2025-2026 college basketball season. Having just come off back-to-back national titles before their second-round exit against Florida in March Madness, the UConn Huskies always place a high value on talented guards. From Kemba Walker to front-runner for the NBA rookie of the year Stephon Castle to projected lottery pick Liam McNeely, the Huskies have a solid track record for producing good guard play that translates to the NBA. Demary Jr. brings scoring (UGA's second-leading scorer), length (6-foot-5) and experience (rising junior) to UConn. He should fit well into UConn head coach Dan Hurley's system. Demary's strong play at the end of the season helped Georgia basketball get off the NCAA Tournament bubble and make March Madness for the first time in a decade. Demary Jr. scored at least 15 points in each of Georgia's last 10 games and he scored over 20 points in four of those contests. He flashed serious scoring potential down the stretch. Now, he can go into a guard-led system to tap more into his potential as he hopes to make a deeper NCAA Tournament run with UConn.

Georgia basketball guard Silas Demary projected to commit to defending national champions
Georgia basketball guard Silas Demary projected to commit to defending national champions Georgia Bulldogs basketball transfer point guard Silas Demary Jr. is projected to commit to the Connecticut Huskies over the St. John's Red Storm, Duke Blue Devils and BYU Cougars. UConn is the defending back-to-back national champions. Of course, that fact will change on Monday, April 7 because the Huskies have been eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. Still, UConn is one of the premier programs in college basketball. The Huskies have produced some excellent guards over the years and aren't afraid to lean on the transfer portal to acquire talent. Demary Jr. brings playmaking and scoring to UConn or wherever he ends up. He scored at least 15 points in each of UGA's last 10 games including over 20 points in four of those contests. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound guard also is entering the 2025 NBA draft, but it appears more likely that he'll return for another season of college basketball. What is next for Georgia basketball? Demary Jr.'s likely transfer is a big loss for Georgia basketball. Demary Jr. was Georgia's second-leading scorer (13.5 points) and led Georgia in assists (3.1) and steals (1.7) per game during the 2024-2025 college basketball season as the Bulldogs returned to the NCAA Tournament. Demary Jr. is ranked as the No. 2 combo guard in the transfer portal, per 247Sports. He is the No. 7 overall transfer. Demary Jr. is one of three Georgia Bulldogs in the transfer portal. The Dawgs are projected to end up losing six of their top seven scorers from the 2024-2025 season, so head coach Mike White and company will basically have to start from scratch next season. Georgia basketball is going to need to find a way to replace Demary Jr.'s production. The Bulldogs have built some positive momentum after returning to March Madness, but it appears that Georgia will have a significant roster reset this offseason. UGA is also likely to lose leading scorer Asa Newell to the 2025 NBA draft. Mike White could have a tenure-defining offseason this year.

Demary Jr. is reportedly visiting with four potential transfer destinations and each of them are college basketball powerhouses.. Demary Jr. entering the transfer portal is a big loss for Georgia basketball. He could still return to UGA, but that seems unlikely. Demary Jr. led Georgia in assists (3.1) and steals (1.7) during the 2024-2025 college basketball season and helped the Bulldogs make their first NCAA Tournament in a decade. Demary Jr., a rising junior, was Georgia's second-leading scorer. Demary Jr. is one of three Georgia Bulldogs in the transfer portal. The Dawgs could lose six of their top seven scorers from the 2024-2025 season. What schools will Demary Jr. be visiting? St. John's Red Storm Head coach Rick Pitino and the St. John's Red Storm advanced to the second-round of the NCAA Tournament and was a No. 2 seed in March Madness before suffering an upset loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks. St. John's lost star guard RJ Luis to the transfer portal and is looking to replace his production. St. John's hosted Demary Jr. on March 31. Demary Jr. is ranked as the No. 4 point guard in the transfer portal, per 247Sports. He is the No. 12 overall transfer. BYU Cougars The BYU Cougars advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament before suffering an embarrassing loss to Alabama. BYU signed the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2025 and is not afraid to offer big name, image and likeness deals. Duke is in the middle of a Final Four run, so it is unlikely they'll host Demary Jr. until after that concludes. The Blue Devils consistently have an elite team and are always looking for the best talent. Demary Jr. will have two seasons of eligibility left wherever he ends up. Duke is expected to have a lot of top talent depart for the 2025 NBA draft this offseason. UConn Huskies The Connecticut Huskies won back-to-back national championships before Florida eliminated UConn in the second-round of March Madness. The Huskies are always looking for guard guard play. Demary Jr. scored at least 15 points in each of Georgia's last 10 games and he scored over 20 points in four of those contests. He flashed serious scoring potential down the stretch.

Georgia basketball losing starting point guard to transfer portal
Georgia basketball losing starting point guard to transfer portal Georgia Bulldogs starting point guard Silas Demary Jr. is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Demary Jr. led Georgia in assists (3.1) and steals (1.7) during the 2024-2025 college basketball season. Demary Jr., who briefly considered transferring away from Georgia last season, helped UGA return to the NCAA Tournament. He scored 15 points in Georgia's 89-68 defeat to Gonzaga in March Madness. Demary Jr., a sophomore, is Georgia's second-leading scorer (13.5 points per game). His departure is a big blow to head coach Mike White. The Bulldogs are also expected to lose their leading scored, forward Asa Newell, to the 2025 NBA draft, so Georgia will likely be rebuilding a lot of their roster this offseason. ESPN's Jonathan Givony reported the Demary Jr. is headed to the transfer portal. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound guard will have two seasons of eligibility left. Demary Jr. made the All-SEC freshman team during the 2023-2024 college basketball season. Demary Jr. is expected to be one of the top players in the transfer portal and projects to start at wherever he ends up transferring to (likely a Power Five school). If Demary Jr. leaves UGA and Asa Newell heads to the NBA, then Georgia will lose four of its five leading scorers from the 2024-2025 season. Demary Jr.'s likely departure is a big deal for Georgia because senior guards Tyrin Lawrence and Dakota Leffew are both out of eligibility. Georgia's other top guards are rising juniors Blue Cain and De'Shayne Montgomery.
