Georgia basketball guard Silas Demary projected to commit to defending national champions
Georgia Bulldogs basketball transfer point guard Silas Demary Jr. is projected to commit to the Connecticut Huskies over the St. John's Red Storm, Duke Blue Devils and BYU Cougars. UConn is the defending back-to-back national champions. Of course, that fact will change on Monday, April 7 because the Huskies have been eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.
Still, UConn is one of the premier programs in college basketball. The Huskies have produced some excellent guards over the years and aren't afraid to lean on the transfer portal to acquire talent.
Demary Jr. brings playmaking and scoring to UConn or wherever he ends up. He scored at least 15 points in each of UGA's last 10 games including over 20 points in four of those contests. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound guard also is entering the 2025 NBA draft, but it appears more likely that he'll return for another season of college basketball.
What is next for Georgia basketball?
Demary Jr.'s likely transfer is a big loss for Georgia basketball. Demary Jr. was Georgia's second-leading scorer (13.5 points) and led Georgia in assists (3.1) and steals (1.7) per game during the 2024-2025 college basketball season as the Bulldogs returned to the NCAA Tournament.
Demary Jr. is ranked as the No. 2 combo guard in the transfer portal, per 247Sports. He is the No. 7 overall transfer.
Demary Jr. is one of three Georgia Bulldogs in the transfer portal. The Dawgs are projected to end up losing six of their top seven scorers from the 2024-2025 season, so head coach Mike White and company will basically have to start from scratch next season.
Georgia basketball is going to need to find a way to replace Demary Jr.'s production. The Bulldogs have built some positive momentum after returning to March Madness, but it appears that Georgia will have a significant roster reset this offseason.
UGA is also likely to lose leading scorer Asa Newell to the 2025 NBA draft. Mike White could have a tenure-defining offseason this year.

Paige Bueckers' Response After Dallas Wings' Sixth Straight Loss
Paige Bueckers' Response After Dallas Wings' Sixth Straight Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After missing four games while in concussion protocol followed by an illness, Paige Bueckers returned to action for the Dallas Wings on Wednesday. Advertisement She had her best game yet as a pro by exploding for 35 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field and hitting five of her seven 3-point attempts while adding six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block. But the rookie couldn't prevent the Wings from losing to the Phoenix Mercury, 93-80. They now have a putrid 1-10 record, which is the worst mark in the WNBA. Bueckers was used to winning in college at UConn, and she talked about how she is dealing with losses in bunches as a pro. "It's challenging but very rewarding in a sense of you being super process-oriented and not result-oriented," she said. "How we want to have a set of standards, build a culture and have a way we do things and stick to that regardless of wins or losses... Then the results will follow and will come as we continue to stay disciplined in who we are every single day. "Just trying to lead by example, lead with my voice and just have difficult conversations. Get to know these people on and off the court and continue to build that chemistry... Just like anything in life, it's a journey." When Bueckers was at UConn, the school always reached at least the Sweet Sixteen round of the women's NCAA Tournament. In fact, during that time, the only instance in which the Huskies didn't get to the Final Four was when she missed all of the 2022-23 season with an injury. Advertisement Just a couple of months ago, they won it all by blasting South Carolina in the title game. For her college career, she averaged 19.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.6 assists a game while shooting 53.1% from the field and 42.3% from downtown. It has won just one playoff series since 2009, when it was known as the Shock and moved from Detroit to Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the meantime, look for Bueckers to continue to show patience as she develops her game and looks to become the WNBA's next superstar. Georgia Tech vs. Georgia Basketball Rivalry Set for 2025
Georgia Tech vs. Georgia Basketball Rivalry Set for 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Mark your calendars, Jacket Nation. Georgia Tech's basketball team will make the short but heated trip to Athens on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, to face off against in-state rival Georgia in what will be the 201st edition of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate on the hardwood, and it's happening earlier than usual, adding a fresh twist to one of college basketball's longest-standing rivalries. Advertisement The matchup, which returns to Stegeman Coliseum, is part of a massive sports weekend for Georgia fans, who will also host Texas in football the following day. But Tech fans are eyeing the Friday tipoff as an opportunity to reset the tone of the rivalry and stop the Bulldogs' recent surge. Georgia has taken the last two meetings, including a 77-69 win in Atlanta last year, and has won seven of the last nine contests. Despite that, Tech still holds the all-time series edge at 107-93, a history that adds weight to every possession when these two collide. But this year's game has more than tradition riding on it. For head coach Damon Stoudamire and the Yellow Jackets, Nov. 14 is more than a rivalry, it's a benchmark. After flashes of promise last season and an offseason focused on identity and development, this early test against an NCAA Tournament squad gives Georgia Tech a chance to make a national statement and spoil Georgia's momentum under Mike White, now entering his fourth season. Duke's Cooper Flagg (2) blocked by Georgia Tech forward Baye Ndongo (11).© Bob Donnan-Imagn Images White guided Georgia to a 20–13 finish and the school's first NCAA Tournament berth since 2015. Their non-conference slate includes Maryland Eastern Shore, Morehead State, Western Carolina, and West Georgia, solid but winnable games. But the real fire starts with the Jackets. Advertisement Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate is always personal, but with Georgia aiming for back-to-back March Madness runs and Tech hungry to reclaim bragging rights, expect an edge. Expect intensity. And expect Jacket fans to travel well and loud. From the first tip to the final whistle, this Nov. 14 showdown will be more than a game, it's a litmus test for Tech's toughness and a chance to change the script. So circle the date. Wear the gold. And remember: rivalries don't start at tipoff, they live in every practice, every film session, every fan's memory. This is the one you can't lose. Paige Bueckers Makes WNBA History in Caitlin Clark's Shadow
Paige Bueckers Makes WNBA History in Caitlin Clark's Shadow originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers has missed the last four games due to a concussion she suffered in late May, followed by an unexpected illness. Advertisement However, Bueckers made her return for the Wings on Wednesday night, facing Alyssa Thomas and the Phoenix Mercury. And despite possibly shaking off a bit of rush, the former UConn star made some history. Coming into the game, Bueckers had recorded 88 points, 28 rebounds and 40 assists through her first six WNBA games played. With 3:12 remaining in the first quarter, Bueckers hit a three-foot layup off a DiJonai Carrington assist, marking her 12th point of the night and 100th of her young WNBA career. Dallas Wings guard Paige BueckersPatrick Gorski-Imagn Images In doing so, Bueckers now becomes the fourth fastest rookie in WNBA history to reach 100 or more points, 25 or more rebounds and 25 or more assists, doing so in seven games, per Polymarket Hoops. Advertisement Only three players have reached this milestone faster than Bueckers: Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, Houston Comets legend Cynthia Cooper-Dyke and former Los Angeles Sparks star Candace Parker, each accomplishing it in just six games. Clark not only tied this record during her rookie season, but she also broke several others, including the marks for most assists in a single game and in a single season. While Bueckers may not be able to reach the heights Clark was able to, she is certainly off to a solid start to her WNBA rookie season. Prior to Wednesday's game, she was averaging 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists. But, like Clark, she started her career with a 1-5 record. Advertisement Bueckers and Clark will meet for the first time in the WNBA on June 27, when the Wings host the Fever.
